that depends on how you look at it. there was a preview of 1.6 open to a few residents on the 1st, there should be a "more" public preview in the next few days. Most of us have been asked not to say too much about what we have seen. But from what I have seen, every one will be impressed. i'd've told you not to say anything at all. i'd for sure never show you another prepreview. community relations are strained enough without this kind of bullshit. _____________________

huh ? (Am I the only one confused here?)
(note to any one not drinking coffee: the last few posts have all been a bit of fun and all screen shots are fakes. It seems that some people took this joke a little too far.) But yes there was a small 1.6 test run with linden labs staff and a few residents. A full preview of 1.6 is due some time soon (next 2 weeks) Sorry if some people have taken this too far. _____________________

I think it's safe to say that the Lindens counted on word of this leaking out. How easily can you keep a secret in a small little world like SecondLife? This is a publicity builder, much like the Magellan Chronicles.
I'm just disappointed that <removed> and <removed> got invited, and I don't get to hear anything about it until it leaks out onto the forums. |

LL had a tiny beta today and invited just a couple of people on condition that we wouldnt go around ruining the suprise for everyone else. ![]() So there is an FIC in Second Life. A Feted and Invited Couple. Shocked....Shocked! .... |

In the lindens defence, no one was invited.
Indeed following suite like below, its time for me to stop my lack of sleep post spree and pass out. _____________________

Based not at all on some PM's that I just received, I will not be posting anything else in this thread.
I was just joking about the FIC, of course. They don't exist. Everyone knows that. |

I just spoke with someone who was invited to the pre preview preview. They were invited, I wasn't. They were invited because they are part of a specially privileged subset of the customer base. I didn't because I most definitely am not. I don't mind there being a privileged subset of the customer population, but it sure does aggravate me when people act like such a thing is absurd. It's ridiculous to think that there would be some kind of purely egalitarian impartiality in human social affairs, and it's also senseless to get upset about such a normal part of human existence when the privilege involved is a one day advance look at something. Big deal.
I've had the feeling something good might be coming. I hope my feelings are right. Darn it, I am going to have a harder time getting to sleep now. I wish I hadn't heard about it till tomorrow. Of course it's possible that the criteria used to select this particular group was something somewhat meaningless and random, maybe along the lines of - "Hey, you guys on the SL IRC chat wanna see the preview early?" |

The major feature was that the login progress bar is now stylized even further for that fresh, modern look. (and you think i'm kidding.)
The other big feature? FREE HATS FOR EVERYBODY!!!! |

have they done *anything* to combat ghosting in 1.6?!?!
If not, then it is truly, truly... a sad thing that they can't fix or work around SeccondLife's WORST bugs. Ghosting is such an embarrassment, it would seem like it would be in their interest to get it taken care of. |

Most of us have been asked not to say too much about what we have seen. But from what I have seen, every one will be impressed. What's the name of that type of picture you can get, where no matter how much you zoom in or out, it retains the same amount of detail? Here is a great example of one, elitism. Man's first action is to create a group. Man's second action is to keep other men and women out of the group. Man's third action is to boast about being in the group. Here we have tons of servers, a virtual world, big forums, lots of background noise, but however much you zoom out and see the big picture it's the same level of complexity. People just love to exclude people. What's in 1.6? Who cares? My XP installation has a load of bugs in it and the Linux client is not till at least 1.7 so frankly I'm not too bothered. And I'm far LESS bothered by anyone who didn't code 1.6, but still wants to puff up their chests to not reveal anything, but keep people dancing round them, as they say they're "in the know". |

It makes them feel significant, superior, and special.
Of course you could always be "extra" special and become a Liaison, making a whopping US$11.00 an hour and working part time, too! Woo! Aaaand i'm spent. _____________________

It's like this: You know that we know you know. The lindens know that you know we know that we know you know. Everyone who reads this knows that you know we know and the Lindens know. And blah-blippety-blah-blah.

1.6 will make SL officially the Metaverse. I hereby declare it. (Assuming the unofficial rumors I've caught are true... I suppose once LL confirms / denies them with the release notes, I will explain why. )Hiro... I know exactly the same information that you know, and your declaration is false. I am not even going to argue about it. What I -do- believe is true is that SL have taken one big leap toward becoming an even more mature shared online development platform. And that is a very good thing. |

It's not like anyone who was invited to the preview preview are at some economic advantage over other players. Who cares if LL wanted to ask some players that it regularly deals with to preview a new patch? What's the big deal? I have my own little business, and I show off new products to my friends & trusted colleagues before I put it out the community. So?

And that is a very good thing. *smiles* Crystal, with respect, the last time we disagreed, it was when I thought your hug bracelet could be adapted to a personal dance machine that would be widely used in SL. ![]() The reason I call it the Metaverse now is that there is a mechanism in SL to be compatible with the Internet, and there is an interface from the Internet into SL - and at that, it's not limited in scope. It is limited in how it's integrated, of course. When we get to a point where we have HTML on prim faces, then we will look at the possibility of SL replacing the Internet. _____________________

I find that all of this secretiveness is getting old and I hope that they open up a preview grid for us to look at ASAP, or just post a feature list on the forums.

Yes, companies should also let everyone see all their source code and their business plan and their shareholders and all employees personal info too because it's too secretive. /sarcasm =p _____________________

Where do I sign up? ![]() Hey, I wasn't invited neither! I posted this in the fervor of hearing about some of the things that might be in 1.6. It was other people who brought up the running-gag Inner Core stuff, lol! I also imagine, from the sounds of it, that LL said, "Hey, let's invite a dozen or so people to check this out... who's online?" I mean, seriously... I don't see why people immediately jump to conspiracy theory without at least considering simple explanations. But I suppose if your definition of "conspiracy" is a bunch of people keeping a secret, then every business in corporate America has their own. ![]() _____________________

Yashu, I heard a rumor that The Ghost Busters have been called to review SL and are combating all ghosts in SL as we speak!
Jsecure, do you mean the Mandelbrot? http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2005-08,GGLD:en&q=mandelbrot Mandelbrots rock. Also check out the Buddahbrot. ![]() I don't think SL is the metaverse yet, its still on its way to growing up to be something like it, but its not there yet. I've heard there will be some awsome things in 1.6, nothing like "Read Brain Impulses" but still awsome. Waiting always sucks. :/ _____________________
