Oh, understood. But either way... it's not "coming" to SL. It's been here since Beta. Haven't you noticed that there is a pattern of this, though? Are you surprised? The amount of time someone comes along to blow their own trumpet about doing a first in SL and you think 'yeah.. first time YOU have seen it... where have you been? - oh thats right, you didnt start til months after it happened before and didnt bother to ask or look it up'. (Not referring to this subject in particular - just referring to a general pattern I've observed in SL) Personally, I don't care who plays politician with whom as long as it never touches me directly, and I don't really know why you're letting someone elses personal wet dream get to you Hiro. If I were you I would just ignore their games until such time as they attempt to infringe upon your own Second Life. But so far, and unlike people who want to change the entire game economics and rules for everyone else to suit their own needs, Ulrika seems to have kept her political fetish to herself and a few likeminded people ever since the message became very clear that the vast majority don't want a government in SL. Hopefully it will stay that way. If not, then I'll surely become far more vocal on the subject myself. Mind you, I'm still interested to hear the inevitable political scandals and sleaze for the sake of entertainment. ![]() |

This is a public forum, and posting in the general forum is asking for general opinion. As for the scandals... reports are already coming in of a white stain and a cigar... _____________________

Is there a difference between a "government" as described here and a clique? I don't see it. But if that's what trips your fancy then enjoy.

Ulrika, I'm sorry if I seem hard on you; I know you can take it, and I know you're looking to better SL. I've been avoiding Nutellaburg in fear that I would want to participate, and I'm already busy, hehheh. Take care! _____________________

Who wants to join me in creating a utopian hive-mind community in SL? Anyone?
Sincerely, Andrew Loeb (There's a joke in there somewhere. I'm sure of it.) |

So who's going to be the king of town? ME Actually there will be 3 arms of thre goivernment and as many party factions. I decided to become part of this project after the heated political discussions on this board. Being a representitive of the Anarchism group I think I can provide a much needed check to the other parties. First and foremost this is a project to see how politics can work in SL and no one is being forced to take part ....it's strictly voluntary. |

I think this is a good idea. After all, the SL website presents that as a possibility [that of governing your own sim and all].

Funny, isnt it Malachi that this is being heralded as "The First Government" when technically there were 9 distinct other governments in SL before the emergence of Nutellaburg.
Unfortunately you still fall under the Monarchy of LL. Just remember your a colony and without opensource you will always be a colony...hehe. Anyway good Luck Ulrika, May your Colony exist in harmony and peace. Shadow _____________________

Being a representitive of the Anarchism group I think I can provide a much needed check to the other parties. I hate to be a stickler, but...logically, if one represents anarchy, how can they be part of an organized group that's a party of a governmental system? The second one organizes, it's no longer anarchy. Personally I'm not an anarchist. I think that collective cooperation between multiple people is a good thing, and can enable them as a group to achieve goals not generally reachable by individuals. However, a collective cooperative is only part of the functions of a full governmental model, and it's the political portions of that model that makes it wholy and completely unnecessary in SL. First and foremost this is a project to see how politics can work in SL and no one is being forced to take part ....it's strictly voluntary. It's for that reason alone that a goverment isn't needed in SL. Governments are needed where one has a large group of people who by necessity must be able to function as a society. At the least, SL society is not large enough to require such a thing, and secondly a 'voluntary' government means it'll have little to no power. If a person decides to leave or go against the government, the only genuine option the government has avilable is to exile that person. Or in the worst cases, refer the problem to the actual legitimate government, that benevolent theocracy called the Lindens. I'd rather much work on building content and architectures in SL, rather than bureaucracies. - Newfie Pendragon |

Anarchists don't despair. You too have representation! The city currently has three declared factions which will compete for seats in the upcoming election in January. The Social Democratic Faction (SDF), the Anarchist Party, and the Worker's Party. *dies laughing* i would eat broken glass to be the first democratically elected Anarchy president. i just can't stop laughing at that. ![]() down with play pretend government, up with play pretend anarchy! join the play pretend revolution! |

Gotcha "Government comes to SL" The title does say it all, no? Yeah, that's what I find scary. Need should give rise government, not vice versa. My sentiments exactly. I know of no legit government that arose out of pure experimentation. Also, the existence of this thread and the title it bears were carefully thought out by Ulrika, she isn't given to whims of fancy. _____________________

I
hate to be a stickler, but...logically, if one represents anarchy, how can they be part of an organized group that's a party of a governmental system? The second one organizes, it's no longer anarchy. Personally I'm not an anarchist. I think that collective cooperation between multiple people is a good thing, and can enable them as a group to achieve goals not generally reachable by individuals. However, a collective cooperative is only part of the functions of a full governmental model, and it's the political portions of that model that makes it wholy and completely unnecessary Ironic aint it. By default Anarchists cant even be a group but they are. I'm not keen on government in SL but if there were to be one even if its experimental I want to be there to see that the the individual has his freedoms. Again this is an experiment to see what can happen. Like it or not at some point more power within virtual worlds will be handed to its residents. Not that this will necessarily happen in SL. Some would like to see through this project what a certain form of government would be like and what can be done to make it workable on a small scale. Completely voulantary. Who's to say what we are doing isn't building content in SL...there are many in this world that love this shit. Work on building content and Architectures and don't be bothered by this experiment...it will only interfere with your Second Life if you so choose it to. |
