Is there a concerted effort by club owners against other clubs?

It would be cool if we were given more access to anti-griefer tools in LSL.

This would kind of let SecondLifers maintain sim stability without having to call lindens.

All the best clubs would have the best defense scripts.

Pffft, you really think so? Historicly, clubs tend to have laggy, poorly-designed scripts that are /far/ from the cutting edge of SL-technology.

If this continues, however, it looks like clubs are going to have to add "security" to the list of must haves right up there with dancers and hosts.

Club Vogue (the first one), run by Marilyn Murphy and myself, realised this back in September 2003. It's not often these days that she and I agree on anything, but on this... we got there before you.

Of course... there was probably someone, Nolan? who noticed even earlier...

If any of you guys have taken the time to visit the Shelter, I'd hope its obvious that we're less interested in competition, and more into being friendly & having fun. We've got a completely different target audience than the bigger clubs..... a lot of people that visit the us aren't interested in the bigger clubs, and frankly, probably a lot of the people that visit the bigger clubs aren't interested in us either.

Remember, you're not a real club owner until:

1) You think SL revolves around you and you keep SL running by existing. (you don't.)

2) You think that in-world parties are better than RL parties. (no, they aren't.)

3) You eagerly await newbies at areas to 'hook' them in. (What? Your club isn't good enough for word-of-mouth!!? hah!)

4) Your club was made with perpendicular surfaces in mind, all set to emit local light. (bonus if it is all set black, no-shiny)

5) Your vocabulary and grammar drop to the point where even those closest to you aren't sure if you're angry or just merely drunk when you type. (I R DON'T SEE WHAT BIG LAND LAG DO WITH DAT)

6) If you can't see all the particles in your club -- the obvious answer - ADD MORE.

7) Your dance floor is set to scroll 1024x1024 sized textures, all scaled up to the maximum.

8) Your hoochie-girls have more prims in their hair than you are allowed on all the land you own.

9) You've become adept at spamming the events list, trying to come up with new ways of spelling 'sexy', 'thong', 'boobs' and 'wet t-shirt'. (Waning, but still around..)

10) You consider putting advertising at telehubs, because somehow, somewhere, someone will stop going to where they want to go, and actually voluntarily lag themselves at your place. (Riiight.)

Enjoy!

Over the past several weeks, it seems that things in SL have been getting nastier and nastier in regards to clubs attacking other clubs - fake abuse reports, griefing, harassment, RL threats of violece, etc... Now there are reports that a group of owners of popular clubs are working together to put a stop to other clubs.

I recognize that competition for dwell, errr, traffic and developer incentives is fierce, but has it really come to this?

Of course, they gotta make a buck right?

I've been in SL about 5 months (this is my redux alt account) and since creating it, I've been spammed completely out of the blue by club owners about 4 times. Two TP offers and two IMs inviting me to club so-and-so. (All different clubs, by the way.)

I respond to the senders of each and every TP or IM with a heartfelt plea to quit spamming noobs to come to your crappy laggy club, for the love of God. No one bothers to respond.

So. Club owners! You never know - when you spam that n00b, you may be spamming someone that knows enough to chew you out over it. How's about taking me off your list of potential recruits? KTHXBYE.

(This hijack has ended. Apologies for the derailment.)

What a nice amount of worthless generalization... Saddening to say the least.

If you don't like existing clubs, build the best one and throw them out of business.
If you can't, though luck.

But if one can't do better, then there is no reason to whine.

Let's take this vein of logic further, shall we? Let's say a new trend in automobiles sweeps across my neighborhood. These new cars make a horrible, deafening screech when started, and expel enourmous clouds of smoke that completely obscure my house and force me to wear a gasmask. According to YOU, I, possessing neither the ability or urge to construct a car, have no right to complain. Or did I forget how to read and completely misinterperet your post?

Phantasie Isle wasn't invited either!! BooHoo
02-01-2005 08:17
On a seriuos note, I wasn't approached about any meeting, Does that mean PI isn't a club? lol

Everyone always tells me i'm in same catagory as a club, however I really don't care what they think, all I know is that Phantasie Isle is the oldest club, beach, group how ever you want to call it. If you look on the list of places there is not many that have been around as long as Phantasie Isle. With that said I will say that we do not get many griefers now that we moved to Island. (Eject & Ban is a wonderful thing :) ).

However when we were in magenta we got griefed a lot, however the people that hung out at PI, it was fun for them they had a target to shoot at fun fun fun. I didn't have to hire security there are plenty people who love playing with their weapons, all I hadda do was say someone shoot that guy or girl who ever it was lol.

When ever we get someone who drops 1000's of prim bombs or when they greif us in anyway, the first thing I do is IM all the club owners I can think of that I know, and I pass on the info to them. It has proven to be very helpful I have banned a bunch based on the IM from other club owners that they were griefed. These greifers need to know that for the most part club owners do stick together when it comes to greifers and Ban together, oh well I mean the mature club owners, not the wannabe adults that come in here and open a club ROFL!!!

Once in Magenta we even had a so called mafia group that had been hired to greif any Phantasie Isle members anywhere they were at, we also had a club that I will remain nameless since it no longer exists that kept leaving listening devises all over, for what reason I have no clue. But the group was disbanned and the members never bothered us again.

Anyway thats my 2cents worth, I know I didn't really say anything new I guess I just wondering about this group of club owners I never heard of it, and I talk to Island and club owners all the time about who I banned and for what to pass on and save others from the same greifers.

Hugzzz Fel

Exactly, if one can't offer a better solution then complaining is completely futile (and redundant).
Too easy to simply whine (or use hackneyed satire) and then expect others to abide to your standards or find an actual solution for you.

A better solution would be to not do it ;)

too bad, you can't tell otherws what they can and can't build, only option is to offer alternatives. If you can't, though luck.
