The Declaration of Independence is NOT a law.

It never pretended to be a law. However, it was authoritative in that it gave the government permission

"The Government" - that would be the government of the United States, right? (*snicker*)

It was an open letter to King George, England, and the World. It didn't /give/ them permission.

From: Kevn Klein

to disregard the "laws" of England where they conflicted with our new found freedom, based on this document.

The laws of England were still laws. Most of our American legal system is based on English law and English common law and Scottish jurisprudence as well. The problem was the King George ignored the Rule of Law, which was in fact /not/ "new found" nor were the freedoms "new found" - They were heralded by the signing of the Magna Carta, in 1215 - which was significant because it required the king to be bound by law.

From: Kevn Klein

It is a document that set out the determination of the lawful congress

In point of fact, the Continental Congress was unlawful - and their declaration of independence was an unlawful act. The United States exists today because of an act by many of unlawful rebellion.

From: Kevn Klein

to separate from England and set forth the foundation of their legal system is plain terms. This same congress placed George Washington in the position of Commander-In-Chief.

It gave ordinary citizens the legal authority to fight back against the British troops, who before the Declaration were the law enforcers and tax collectors.

It didn't give ordinary citizens any legal authority - it proclaimed that King George's rule was /unlawful/ and that it was right to rebel against and resist it.

From: Kevn Klein

Washington used it as an authoritative document giving the green light to fight a war against the "until then lawful government".

There is no doubt the intent of the Congress at that time was to lay the groundwork for what was to become the USA.

Their intent is arguable, and as you've evidenced that you're purposefully uneeducated as to their intent, we won't go there - it would be like showing a card trick to a dog.

sorry if the truth hurts your pride but the American Revolution was nothing more than a successful Civil War. The Declaration of Independence can be compared to the Confederate Constitution in its intent and purpose. Sorry to break it to you, but the declaration of independence is nothing more than a list of "you did this wrong"

BillyBob, you misunderstand him - this is an admission that you're right, and he's been wrong. You put forward a proper, documented, well-reasoned argument, which is substantially correct, and he cannot address it.

Kevn just doesn't know how to debate, so he's not aware of the fact that he's losing the debate. Badly.

Maybe you should look up the definition for the term "library".

So the books themselves, when amassed together, are sentient?

Some sort of Pulitzer-Jungian Superconsciousness?

You do understand the difference between quoting a person and quoting a source, right?

Yes, and a single person is a single person. You claim to be quoting a library. A person is not a library. A library, similarly, is not a person.

Did you know that fruit and vegetables are two different things too? So are brick walls and trees.

Uh, yeah. The Library of Congress is the source I quoted. You do understand this, right?

And the Library of Congress is not a single human being, nor is it a single literary source.

Because the Library of Congress is the original author of the document in question. *rollseyes*

Really, why do we expect him to understand the rules of how to perform a citation, if we can't expect him to understand the laws of the land, the spirit or letter of his own claimed religion, the process of debate, how academics works, or even common courtesy?

Dictionary.com = crap. Can you get the same definition from other sources?
Here's the source that actually defines, for all intents and purposes, the substance of the English Language, Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: 1source
Pronunciation: 'sors
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English sours, from Anglo-French surse spring, source, from past participle of surdre to rise, spring forth, from Latin surgere -- more at SURGE
***************
1 a : a generative force : CAUSE b (1) : a point of origin or procurement : BEGINNING (2) : one that initiates : AUTHOR; also : PROTOTYPE, MODEL (3) : one that supplies information
***************
<A singular person, in other words.>

2 a : the point of origin of a stream of water : FOUNTAINHEAD b archaic : SPRING, FOUNT

***********************************************************************
3 : a firsthand document or primary reference work
***********************************************************************
<A single document or reference compilation>

4 : an electrode in a field-effect transistor that supplies the charge carriers for current flow -- compare DRAIN, GATE
synonym see ORIGIN
- sourceĀ·less /-l&s/ adjective

Note, neither of these definitions befit the Library of Congress as entity or literace.
