From: Ulrika Zugzwang I didn't leave anything out. The article clearly states that Apple's price is lower than Dells and a hand-assembled computer for equivalent hardware. It could not be more clear. In fact, now that that has been cleared up for you, are there any other questions you have? Except, A, you never pointed out the "equivalent hardware" bit, and you still are ommiting the fact that by "equivalent hardware", you mean ONLY one configuration. Your topic suggests your statement has broad application, which it does not. From: Ulrika Zugzwang Easy there. No sense in loosing control over something so small. That was my thought, but you apparently feel otherwise.

From: Tod69 Talamasca See Fmeh? Part of the problem is- the Mac users dont get it. It's like yelling louder so the deaf guy can hear you. Their arguement seems to be: My Mac just works. However, they seem not to understand the idea behind "just works" and "works pretty damn good". Like the LCD Latency thing- maybe they're so used to having flickering & ghosting when/if they "get their game on" they suppose its that way for everyone? Maybe the reason they dont seem to understand the part about upgrades is, they cant afford to OR no need to. Or maybe its just denial? Sure, you just spent $2000 on a Mac. But your neighbor just bought the same or more in a PC and spent less $$, so you keep telling yourself "It's still better". Thats their Mantra. and YES- for the computer illiterate or not-so-technically inclined, a Mac is a much better solution. If it werent for the Clueless PC home user, I wouldnt be making a few $$$ here N there. Well, as long as they're not trying to play games, the macs DO "work pretty damn good", and I think OSX is a superior operating system by far. The reason why they don't think about upgrades is because the software that is available for the mac generally doesn't need hardware upgrades. The mac is not a games-centric machine, and games are the primary reason why people need upgrades. To a mac user, upgrading is something that one spends $150 every 10 months for dot releases of their OS. Upgrading hardware? Why would you need to do that, you spent a large sum of money on that hardware, why would it need to be upgraded? It's true that out-of-the-box, macs pretty much do what mac users want them to. Unfortunately, out-of-the-box, macs don't do what PC gamers, or tech-heads, or people that use a lot of heavy 3d applications want them to without doing upgrades, and by the time those upgrades happen, it becomes a LOT more expensive.

From: Ulrika Zugzwang You didn't get the joke! I compared you to the PC guy in the Apple commercial because you keep misusing "circular logic". We're talking about Macs. Get it? We've come full circle. Or as you would say, I've used circular logic. ~Ulrika~ I get what you're saying but I don't get the humor. Sorry I'm such a square.

From: Jake Reitveld as opposed to being an abrasive 35 year old male, underemployed at some coffee bar with pretentions at being a comptuer savvy rockstar philospher pretending to be a a german woman on a controversial virtual reality platform? You are exactly right on having pretentions of being a computer-savvy rockstar/philosopher. You are close to having my real age (I turn 35 shortly). You are incorrect on my gender and occupation. You are wrong in that I am not pretending to be German. You left out that I love the forums because I get to slap around monkeys like you all day. By the way. What's working in a coffee bar like? ~Ulrika~

~Ulrika~ Does being an English teacher hurt? I've always wondered. Let me state again--there's nothing funny about your joke. It's like calling someone an asshole and then laughing and then expecting them to laugh back.

*excuse me a sec*
Ulrika.. Congrats on that new mac! I wish I could get one right now. With the ability to run Win XP I think Apple is going to usher in a new era in sales. I can totally see how that system is going to help you with your photoshopping/video editing, etc. I run a PC. I built it myself and it is fairly kick butt. I had a G5 before. I ended up selling it back to the person I bought it from because they REALLY missed it lol. Macs are awesome. I hope you enjoy it.

~Ulrika~ No, I just don't bother with spelling - even when the person in question is being hypocritical about it - unless it gets truely obnoxious.

Sure MS sucks but I don't have to drive 100 miles for support. It runs WinXP now, so that argument is moot. As a hardware seller, Apple commands 10 % of the marketplace (12 % for laptops), which make them the third largest and gaining. They're only behind Dell and HP. The trick is to not compare their OS against a monopoly but to compare their hardware against the much more diverse PC manufacturing industry. When you do, you can see they're a powerhouse and understand why they're pricing themselves competitively with Dell. Additionally, as commodity hardware, one can either get AppleCare, go to an Apple retailer for support, or take the computer in to Computer City. It's a PC now. Understand?

I was being generous with the coffe bar accusation And this is SL every woman is a guy until I get phone confirmation other wise. Its safer that way. Yeah and slapping people around while using a mac is a bit like putting a rubber ona dildo.

That's a real trick--that takes stretching truths to the point of not being recognizable. The only reason why Microsoft's OS is a monopoly is because Apple doesn't want to open theirs up to non-apple hardware--they want to lock it to their hardware when they are perfectly capable of opening it up, especially now that their OS WILL run on non-apple hardware with some hacks made to it. Apple has it locked down on purpose, and quite frankly, it's Apple's fault that Microsoft has a monopoly on operating systems.

This I agree on. For simplicity of use- get a Mac. I'd even consider the iMac for my parents! They can barely figure out a computer as is, so for them something that works without much user intervention & adjustments would be ideal.
