Bullies, Alts, Hypocrites and Know-it-alls

Is regulation the difference between adulthood and babyhood? If so, why do you feel that way? Doesn't it make more sense that an "adult" wouldn't need to have their hands held?

'Paradox Of Our Time' by: Dr. Bob Moorehead

This has been circulating the internet and was thought to be, but also is NOT George Carlin:

The true author of the piece is Dr. Bob Moorehead, former pastor of Seattle's Overlake Christian Church. (He retired in 199. The essay appeared under the title "The Paradox of Our Age" in Words Aptly Spoken, Dr. Moorehead's 1995 collection of prayers, homilies, and monologues used in his sermons and radio broadcasts:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.

We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Please understand, I am trying to understand you. The forums is meant for discussion. You don't need to make that kind of remark (I am sorry I can't type those kinds of words. I don't use them in RL and refuse to use them anywhere else).

Pretend we are slow and we want to understand your point. You make these claims about the Forum but at the same time, you seem to make the same kind of remarks you seem to be complaining about. I was hoping to reach out and start the upward climb here.

It takes just one step in the positive direction. Nothing I have said deserved the remark you made. I never used profanity or said anything about you. I asked an honest question.

By using your previously stated logic, I should now be forced to respond in kind. But I am not. Can you see that?

So this is the type of interaction you prefer on the Forums? The forums are a tool and can be used constructively. But like any tool, it's misuse changes the whole nature of its purpose.

I still won't respond in kind, you don't have to either. I am holding my palms against the wrist rest area of the my Powerbook and hoping somehow some positive energy can flow across the links of wire and wirelessness that is connecting us. It's a beautiful night and I am going to walk my dogs. While I am walking them and looking up at the sky, I will try to direct some positive energy to you whereever you are.

There are a lot of good people here and I know you are one of them.

Now you want a meaningful real discussion? Go for it April I am behind you and commend you for the courage it will take. I however do not feel that is a goal that is obtainable.

Instead I choose not to take part any SL discussion seriously. A discussion will start out just fine till a forum jerkwater pulls the first punch.

Its a spiteful cycle played out so often, I am completely fatigued with that repetitiousness.

If you don’t know the cycle then you haven’t been here long enough. No I will not explain the spiteful cycle that occurs much too frequently and without proper mediated restraint. As the spiteful cycle has been well documented in the past. But more so continues to occur.

So go walk them dogs.

But we can stop the cycle. We can be the change. This post you just made is proof. It just takes one of us to step outside the madness. We might have to do it again and again and again. But it's better to rise above the stuff then join them in it.

Tip of advice, just go with the flow....you'll only be wasting time on idiots. Obviously they will be ones who are stuck with whatever changes happen and either leave or press on. But next time you try this, DONT put it in off topic, this makes a good general topic more then off topic Not only that, but hes right not to take it too seriously, cause no matter what you try nothing changes right away, especially on forums, there last things to change.

It occurred to me while reading this page after page...that maybe all of these 'characters' are just one person in RL. Then I started thinking maybe all of SL is one person in RL and well things went downhill from there.

but at least it had a purpose - it gave me a goose-pimply warm feeling to know that what was going on in SL when I 'lived' there... is still going on.

now I think I am going back to playing WOW.
