"How to greet your visitors 101"

1. Do not say "Fuck off or take off that hair and bloody bling!"

2. DO change the theme between "naked hour" and "bikini hour" often

3. DO "^6^^A^S^HOWWWLLLLL^^^^#^^$^$^$^#^$^" Ad nauseam.

Knee-jerk reactions aside, if you are a noob and new to Second Life, you just may have no idea what it means to host an event.

The first event I ever attended in SL was a Linden-run class on how to put events on the calendar, attract people to my event, and how to collect my support.

I don't see anything wrong with a class like this as long as its really being taught, by an instructor, ON TOPIC.

no its not lame. there are people out there who don't know how to host an event.

dammit... oh gods now i'm going to rant.. you've really done it now.

look you can't have it both ways. You want all events on the calendar hosted? You want good events? Then hosts are needed. Being an event host is a thankless job that pays MAYBE 250L if you are lucky. If you are even luckier you can put out a tip jar and once people are done paying the musician, dj, dancers, buying clothes and whatnot then maybe you can get 5 or 10 L out of them becuase hosting an event is easy right?

Its not. You have to get there early. You often have to do a fair amount of setup. You are *on* for 2 hours straight and you don't normally get a break and you can't leave when it gets boring -- as a matter of fact, that's when you have to be your most effusive.

But there are people out there who don't know this. They don't know to get there early, they don't know what to do if a bunch of griefers attack, they don't know what to do if everyone falls silent, etc etc. So there's a class in it -- how is that bad? How is teaching people to host good events a bad thing? I just don't get this.

Sorry But this person been in the game 2/21/2006 and she claims she knows all? It appears she is aiming for instructor tag. But If LLabs lets person to be judged on this event as a learning then LLabs is indeed lacking in substance in the learning event department..

OMG almost 1 year and 7 month worth of learning under me and someone was cute enought to think Hosting is a education event!!?!?!?!? GESH things have gone down hill alot these days.

I look for in the near future that Instructors will no longer be paid by LL to give a class and the only ones that will be left is the ones willing to give classes for the reason we should be. Sharing with others and doing it because we wish to.

Like so many things it is being gamed now and same as in the past when LL catches up to it it will go away.

I give my classes and dont put in for the LL payment, why? I do it for the shear joy of sharing :) And will continue to do so no matter what happens.

There have been classes teaching the basics of building in SL, things like how to make and texture prims. Why is this any different?

to my knowledge most are, they apply to be an Instructor as a benefit to teaching a class.

This is exactly the kind of prejudice that makes hosting events such a thankless chore. Events couldn't possibly require as much skill as building, right? There's no way there could be any tips, tricks, items, or scripts an instructor could pass on that could benefit aspiring event hosts, right?

If she is not an instructor, why do you care? and how do you know she plans to be an instructor? Did you play 20 questions with her just so you can belittle her on the forums?

Public speaking is a course in college and in fact is one of the general education requirements in many colleges.

Yet everyone knows how to speak. So why bother?

They bother because there are nuances, details, little tricks that are useful to you and can help you be better at it.

How is this any different?

Your taking too easy of a view of this......This is a education event about hosting, where is all about experience. Building is moving touching molding objects.

Ok you can say hosting is the same right well........is it? I don`t think so...

You can`t teach hosting like this its learn by doing.......nuances, details etc as you say part of of the learning curve of hosting.....Hence you get only about 10% learning from this type of event education class. Not even closer to the worth of people like this play that was born 2/21/2006 is offering...... Its Lame! and gesh host a bad name.
