shhh.... ya'll are messing with my 'dorkiness'

* I now return you to our regularly scheduled thread *

Oh hey - I had 2 errors reported today. I think they are linked to trees with large numbers of unpicked bills/fruit. Let me know if you have any problems. I'm looking into it.

finally finally, i finally have the money bush settled in zoe on a tropical beach in fate park. the landmark is zoe (130,10) and it's listed under find with "money tree" in the description for the land.

this tree is no longer available. the land is being sold.

only one person has found it so far so it's packed full of bills and fruit.

OK, a few people had their trees stop when large amounts of bills/fruit accumulated. I have fixed this. Bills/fruit will now drop to the ground after 12 hours and die after 24 hours. It used to be 24/48. This cuts down considerably on the maximum possible prim usage also. If you are experiencing this problem, send me an IM and I'll send you the new version. Everybody should upgrade though (Hong Bao too). As usual, upgrades can be found at Bravo Bravo - Garmisch (60,200).

From: someone
Release Notes:
V2.9 - 2/1/05
* Changed the timing for bills/fruit to drop to 12 hours and die 12 hours after dropping. This fixes a bug where large amounts of unpicked items would cause a memory overflow.

Setting Up A New Version
----------------------------
You need to keep your donations balance correct to make sure you give away the money you were given by others. To do this, note your "Remaining Donations:". Delete your tree and any fruit and bills. Then setup your tree as before. Now type '/5 balance <amount>' where <amount> is the amount you noted earlier. By doing it this way (v.s. just donating the amount through Pay) your name will not be at the top of the "Top 3 Donors" list forever.

If you want your direct donations back on the "Top 3 Donors" list, subtract your amount from the amount you put in with the 'balance' command. Then just directly donate your amount via Pay.

Lauks Nest, Alviso ( 19, 201 )

This tree no longer exists. I've sold my land and bought a bigger plot nearby.
I'll re-rez the tree when I've completed landscaping the new land :)

Blacklist working?
02-03-2005 17:34
I had a report today of a blacklisted individual still being able to receive payment. First, understand that when a blacklisted individual clicks on a bill/fruit everything works as normal except that they aren't paid. Has anyone had problems where blacklisted individuals are still getting paid?

I think the general idea is to be generous to new players that have not yet been able to learn the technologies and arts in order to make goods or services to augment their stipend.

As I'm sure you know, a large part of the enjoyment that many players have is from obtaining clothes and toys. Insofar as long-time players either have income other than stipend or have piled up L$ that is of little utility to them, sharing it with players who value it more is a magnanimous act.

I imagine that some use money trees as draws to their store/build/whatever. Indeed, my tree is at my "shop" because that's where I had space. "Shop" here is more a figure of speech as I don't sell much at all, nor do I try to. If someone stumbles upon my money tree, gathers the fruits and then decides to by one of my objects, then they got something pleasing to them for "free". Not that this has happened, nor do I expect it.

P.S. My thinking that Sapphire is an interesting person was a big part of my motivation.

I remember the original Money tree when I started and was broke...I only ever got 1 linden off it but impressed me that someone gave back to the community...so I thought it would be a good thing..

I doubt very seriously anyone is doing it for dwell because the newbs only hover long enough to grab whats on the tree and they are off....and being new and scrounging at the money tree isn't gonna get you sales either :D

The Money Tree fits in with the theme at our location at Living Cities. Is it a draw? Yes. Was it put out to help newbies? Yes. It's all of those things. I put ours out to help drive people to see our build, to visit the University of SL Library where you can get lots of free stuff, and to generally provide a focal point for services provided by the city.

well there's an idea, why do you have a money tree? i shall post.

mojo, most people have "money tree" listed in the title or description of thier land. open the find window (crtl-f), select the places tab, type money tree into the text box and push the search button. that'll give you a pretty fair list.

Just a helping hand to newbies along with a hope that they will find Taber and explore it a bit. We purposly didn't post the coordinates so they would have to look for it.

What's the motivation behind RL charity?
Why do people join the Live Helpers, Mentors and Instructors?
People have given away money since... the dawn of time.
A year ago Jack Digeridoo (I think) had a similar money script at the Omega Games casino in Lindenworld.
I myself was on both the giving and receiving end several times before SL even launched, and many more times after that.
It's all about feeling good with yourself. Being kind to other people strokes your ego.

Hong Bao Money Tree
02-05-2005 20:59
New Hong Bao ("Red Envelope";) Money Tree at Arena (31,126)

It will stay up throughout the Chinese New Year, which lasts two weeks starting Feb 9.

Hong Bao are traditionally given to children by older relatives and friends at Chinese New Year, and usually have a small amount of money inside, so this seemed just right. :)

Hey Tiger,

A Money Tree is a free object I created to help others to give back to the new users in the community. By owning a money tree, the owner commits to giving their weekly base stipend of L$500 to new users (30 days old or less). If the owner, or someone else, wants to donate to the tree it bears fruit. All of this manifests itself as L$1 bills and fruit that a new user can click on to receive lindens valued between L$1 to L$20.
