From: Aimee Weber Just a quick insight into my my thinking... Second Citizen mostly had the same features as the 3-star forums, therefore I could have considered giving them 3-butterflies. But they also had four to eight times the number of registered users than the other 3-butterflies forums, and ten to twenty times more posts. Right now Second Citizen enjoys a more active userbase than all other third party forums combined, so I felt it deserved a nudge and 4-butterflies was the next step up. Of course, posting activity wasn't the end-all-be-all for my rating standards, which is why Second Citizen didn't take the lead. Naturally we are all going to judge forums by our own standards and of course there will be disagreements as to what features should carry more weight. But I hope none of my ratings were so anomalous as to discredit the whole rating system. No ... nor do I mean to imply that your article is by any means worthless. Rather, I mean to say that we're obviously using different criteria to judge the value of any given forum. Too, I admit to a negative bias where SC is concerned. Thanks for the insight into your method, by the by.

It's easy to measure QUANTITY of posts. It's hard to measure QUALITY of posts LOL. Maybe on the follow-up review I will penalize forums for the number of times "HITLER" shows up in a forum search!

From: Alex Fitzsimmons On the rating values, she lost me the moment she gave SC four ... butterflies. That pretty much tells me I'm going to have to check each one individually to find out whether we even come close to agreeing. Still, it was handy to get a few more names to look into. you still smearing SC all over the innerwebs alex? geez, i respected your posting abilities but your personal ax to grind is losing it by the second

From: SuezanneC Baskerville Can one post at any of the 3rd party sites via email? <shrugs> That's not a hard thing to add, any way you look at it. Let's see. Have the site recieve emails and process them. If they come from an e-mail address that matches an account that has a blog, then post the entry. Otherwise, send an autoreplay that says: "Sorry. You're not a special enough to email in posts."

Otherwise, send an autoreplay that says: "Sorry. You're not a special enough to email in posts." By allowing one to post via email, one could post to multiple sites with one email. This would be great for testing the forums out - easily post your identical questions or comments to a bunch of forums and see what kinds of responses you get as a result. It could be used to make advertising easier - a person could post an ad in the forums that offer ad forums with one email. What would it take to allow posting via cellphone text messaging? I'm not hip enough to do that but some folks might like that.

Forum posts would be more complicated. I suppose you could create a new thread that way, but obviously responses and stuff would be trickier. It wouldn't be impossible, but it is more complex with forums than a blog.

Your whining about it only makes it worse. But after your sicko display with Margaret, nothing much you can do is going to surprise me anyway. despite what a slave calls a "sicko display with margaret" (im sorry, i like strong women, and you are at the wrong end of the leash for my tastes), it is normal flirtations... she may certainly reject me, but asking for her phone number to me, is not "sick" now if I were to buy her on a "great gorean auction", i myself think that would be sick, and not be proper courting in my book but thats niether here nor there see, margaret holds her own with me quite well, she doesnt go poor meees gettin picked on Ill leave quietly with no drama... and then say she regrets it, and then does it again and againno, Margaret is a strong, intelligent, honest person... i just would like to know her better i dont cyber or do poseballs, so any thoughts about that are out of the question for me i'm sorry it didnt work out with us Alex, but you don't meet my criteria

Boolean Search
09-03-2006 18:55
Do any of the third party sites have boolean search ability?
It's such a powerful yet simple way to do a search. I remember when internet search engines like Alta Vista and Hotbot had boolean search. It can decrease the amount of time it takes to find what you are looking for tremendously.

From: Enabran Templar Nope to the former, nope to the latter. Awesome emissary to Stratics you're making, though. Really? I guess you're one of those people who is unable to separate the forum from the individual. A lot of people are attacking Stratics for one reason only - because I'm involved. Frankly, that's entirely pathetic. I shouldn't have to waste my time defending something that needs no defence. I'm entitled to my views on any subject at any time, just as you are. Why do you lack the ability to see Stratics as an entity entirely separate from me? As I have already repeated several times, if people are avoiding Stratics because I post there - I also post on Second Citizen, so why are people still going there? Lewis

To paraphrase a post from an entirely different forum:
..and Goldilocks sat down at papa bear's computer and said "oh my, this forum is too hard"... ...so she went over to mama bear's computer, sat down, and said "ohhhhh, this forum is too soft"... ... so she went over to baby bear's computer and sat down. She found a forum that was not too hard, and not too soft, and she said "Ohhhhh! This forum is just right!" But then, through her presence on the forum, and the unfortunate effects of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the forum changed and was now both too hard AND too soft. "God Damn it!" said Goldilocks.

From: Shep Korvin Just out of curiousity, what *is* the deal with you and stratics?
I always thought you had some kind of editorial input/position of control there... My official title is "Content Manager". My role is twofold: Help Guides and News. Help Guides. We have a constantly growing selection of "How To" help guides, which are designed to help players understand certain parts of how SL works, share tips, shortcuts and other useful information. Whilst I am currently helping to write them, as we grow my role will move more to overseeing who is working on what, co-ordinating and maintaining an overall list of what needs doing, and the technical side (formatting to the site, ftp access and suchlike). News. Similar, although news reporters generally upload their own articles, having received tip-offs and suggestions from other players and other members of the team. In both of those roles, I may be required to commission people to write things, find or take pictures, and anything else related to that side. Whilst my title is 'manager', it doesn't mean I have overall control; the Site Manager does. Also, although my job is to ensure things get done, I do tend to prefer to work with the rest of the team in a Borg-like manner so that, collectively, we may end up with the best result, whatever the task may be. I am also currently building and developing our "in-world" presence, through a Headquarters building. This is partly because I have donated land for it to be built upon. It is still under development, although you are more than welcome to drop by and have a look. I have absolutely no input on forum moderation or overall policy at Stratics Second Life. In fact, most of the 'policies' are actually global to the whole of Stratics, and not just the SL pages. Lewis
