I was thinking back to when I first came to SL last summer, and I remember the first person I ever met, Aimee Weber. She gave me a ton of free clothes, wings, gadgets, and answered a few questions like, "What are you supposed to do now?" Part of what made me stay around long enough to enjoy Second Life was how helpful and nice Aimee was. Anyone else have similar experiences when they first came to SL.

Two of my friends, one from another game, helped me out when I arrived here.

Not only have I paid them back the L$ they gave me to start with, but I have helped another friend from that same game. Within a night of her arrival, she knew the basics, and had a multitude of clothes, a well shaped body, skin, eyes, and hair. She holds a floor of my home for her own use until we get her her first land (she bought premium right off). Granted, my rl fiance and another friend helped us introduce her, but bwteen us, we got her stet up rather well. She is currently learning how to position and edit furniture to decorate a living space.

Given the natur eof sl seems to be word of mouth, perhaps we should all take a moment to give a personal touch to whom we bring in.

Yes. Barnesworth Anubis, who was a friend in TSO, helped me. He contacted me to see how I was doing, and I mentioned that I couldn't MOVE AT ALL and was ready to quit. He helped me to change my settings so that I could. If it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't have stayed. He also helped me later on with mysterious building bugs, whenever I asked!

Eboni Khan helped me when she dropped by when I was putting up my little house, and told me an easier way of putting it down. She then taught me how to tint windows, and gave me the things needed for that which I still use today. And she didn't know me at all, she just dropped in and helped.

April Firefly helped me on my first house build, where I couldn't manage to copy the parts for no good reason. I'd been stuck there for over a month, with no one knowing what to do or able to give advice. April came over, spent a long time considering everything, and we finally determined that there were rogue and random textures imbedded in some of the prims. Once those were out, the copying was possible! And I was finally able to put my house on the market. That but has happened a few times since, but I've known exactly what to do, and I've always thought of her when it happens.

Shagz Anubis and Ouchquack Stern, friends from TSO, helped me and gave me freebies, too. In fact, Shagz's face with Groucho mask on was the first to meet me off Orientation Island. I hope always to know this wonderful person, my whole life long, in this and in any game I'm ever in.

Brace Coral was also very nice, as well as Trimming Hedges, new people I met as I made my way around the world to various events. And Adam and Nexus were very nice to this newbie when she was trying to get her brain around the fact that she could actually "own" land without being a premium member.

Angelique Fontaine - also a friend from TSO - gave me my first building lessons.

I know there were others, but those are the ones who come to mind immediately.

Yes CryOrchid Menatropa (sp) she helped me bunches my first day, and there after. (Im still rather new.) My greeter was very very busy and didn't have the time at the moment and she helped me fix my avie, found me some hair, hooked me up with some clothes and taught me the basics. She also built me my first house and gave it to me. Many many more things.

There are still many people still teaching me things.

Ok... First one:

Fox Frost found me, helped me to figure out the basics of all the systems, and gave me EVERY GUN he knew of. He was friendly, helpful, and kind to a fault.

Wonder where he got off to?

Hrm... when I was new... who helped me... a few, and I'm afraid of forgetting some, but...

Matina Appleby & Cailyn Miller for a start... Bob Bunderfeld... a few others... most of whom are gone now.

Was a very different world back then.

Beryl Greenacre, who gave me a loan so that I could buy my (ill-fated) land in Federal :) Also, the amazing Bob Bunderfeld, who patiently answered all of my building questions that I bombarded him with. The two of them had a tremendous impact on my early SL experience, and both remain two of the classiest people in SL.

Unfortunately, I don't remember names, but pretty much everyone who was at the old Club Fur back when it was in Dusun. The kind furs there hooked me up with freebies, tips, tricks, advice, and enough cash to buy an av. Also, special thanks to Hobbes Abbatoir, who has been a close friend pretty much since day one, and Rhyme Gardner, who was my neighbour in my old First Land sim, she and I learned a lot of things about land and building together :)

I had no help when I started. In fact, I was kind of shy and flew off whenever someone approached to speak to me. But after I bought some land I made friends with neighbors, many of whom are still friends today. Thanks guys!

Elphesius Madison was the first person to take me under her wing and show me the ropes. The funny thing is that she was only 2 weeks old at the time and soon we were learning things together. Before I had met her I was learning on my own by going to classes. :)
