Ananda Sandgrain and Kazenojin, inspired me to start building flighty things ^^
feniks Stone and Taylor Thompson, for letting me have a temporary home on Briarcliff Manor to advance my building skills and for a great little community.

The first 2 people I met when I joined last June were Alliez Mysterio and Cindy Claveau (I had known Cindy outside of SL for... a while (don't want to say ages or she would blame me for making her sound old :) )).

Alliez was in La Vie en Rose at the time, which was the first place I TPed to after the welcome area and gave me freebies and taught me the basics.

Those 2 ladies took me from noob to not quite Prince Charming in hours and I am very thankful to them. :)

Though I haven't been in SL all that long (since mid-March of this year), I can think of a number of folks that have been a great deal of help along the way. Mind you, I don't necessarily define help as having anything to do with teaching, giving of items, etc., but more as being willing to assist along the way, and being there to lend an ear or a kind word. I just hope that I have been as much of a friend to these folks as they have been to me.

Matt Wakawaka - A RL friend that introduced me to SL. Without him, I would not be experiencing all that this world offers.

Songstra Soothsayer - One of the first folks I met in-world. Has been nothing short of a true friend, and has always been willing to listen and offer sound advice.

Geoff Gavaskar - Met him on my first night in SL, and he was one of the first that truly made me feel welcome. A true Scout.

Robert Pegler - Master of the MegaMan AVs. :) He helped me out on my first real build in SL, but more than that, it's been great to know a guy like him.

Zoom Killian - I was introduced to him by Songstra. Man, what adventures we've had. He has shown me a lot of what can be done in SL.

Isaac Bergson - Gave me my first job in SL, working as a live bartender. Meet a lot of interesting folks at that club. Thought it's gone now, the friendships from there live on.

Zack Harmison - Always willing to help in any way he can, and a true gentleman. It's an honor to be a business partner with him in Living Water, an idea he came up with after Isaac's club closed.

There are so many folks that have helped along the way, that it's impossible to remember them all. Blame it on my head on my faulty memory, and not my heart. You've all been great.

But, there is one more that I must place here...

Kizzy Troughton - My SL wife, and the mother of my SL son. We've had our hard times, and know that life ain't always easy, even in a virtual world. But through it all, she's been there for me, and has made my SL complete. I know I'm not the easiest person to be with at times, but even so, she stands by my side. And even beyond SL, we have become good friends in RL. And there's nothing I wouldn't do for her, both as her husband in SL, and as a friend in RL. She means a lot to me, on both sides of the fence.

Vulpine Eldrich helped me figure out some scripting oddities, and some fun places I had never seen in SL. She also encouraged me in my still incomplete building of a trombone. Basically, it gave me a positive enough experience that I went from a Basic account to a Premium. I still owe her a trombone, once I build the thing.

My first SL friend, Diamond Hope. She got me started dancing waaay back when I did that, which I don't anymore. :p

We used to have lots of fun, though, and the club regulars set me up with tons of stuff like dance animations and all that other good stuff. It was like my starting SL family. Erikk Steele, Tyrage Chatnoir, Mage Prefect and his silly mage hat ... were Babyboo Glitterbuck and Bailey Mackenzie around back then? I can't even remember. :p And then I also met Starling Glitterbuck at the club and later Jacobi Fatale and Andale Charming, the latter of whom I got involved with ...

I know I'm forgetting tons of people! But Di was the first. :)

I can't remember - I think the person who gave me a folder full of random scripts was the most helpful, because just before then I'd been thinking "this is all very well but I don't see what I can do here". I didn't know about any of the newbie places; I had nothing, apart from things I'd made myself. Unfortunately I can't remember her name, I wish I could.

Folk from Withnail Academy were most influential in keeping me in SL after that. I had technical skills but no particular focus, an interest in Victoriana and balloons but no great reason to continue either on my own. That helped introduce me to a meaningful community, as there was no geographic one from my first land at all. The mainland can be a very lonely place.

Stick Cult - gave me my first ride in an airship, after only having met me a minute before. This gave me a wonderful aerial view of the SL mainland at a leasurely pace, and I saw what a great place SL was.

He's got a good generous heart, and he's been a good friend ever since.

I'd have to say the person who helped me most was SuziQ Timtam. She spent almost a hour orienting me in the ways of my Second Life when I was a lost little newbie. I'm not sure if she's proud or not. ;)

The one who has helped me MOST in SL is my Favorite Person On Line. She has been my companion through four years, and brought me in to SL, and helped me get my Feet under me.

Awesome thread to revive!
07-05-2006 18:27
I am also fairly new to Sl, yet could not resist this thread.
Almost all of the people I have encountered have been very nice and others have been simply amazing.

By the time I got my second land I started to feel at home.
I was building this funky place in Puea when I noticed these
two little tiny ponies frolicking around my land. I didnt even know they were AVs until they got close and I saw the floating names. They were Ariana Kamloops and Karsten Rutledge,
who are awesome people and have been very helpful to me.
Jony Blade Codesmith is another neighbor who seems to have the answer to anything I can think of and a great guy.
Anika Davison invited me into my first real group and gave me a place to go as well as helped me with my appearance.

Through her I met Moodii Moxie who has become a great friend
and shares artistic knowledge and resources.
One of my first friends who is just a huge sweetheart is Kaissa
Kongo.
I have a made a ton of friends here and I love it. Many people
helped me along who I do not see that much. I feel like I want to just keep naming people but these are the ones that helped me early on.

One of the things that amazes me is the validity of the memories created in SL competing with RL memories.

Great thread!

It doesn't seem quite fair to limit the thanks just to those who made an initial difference. Various people have been of great help at different stages as my rleationship with the platform and its people has evolved.

Early on it was old friends from TSO days--Kitten "get that frakkin' box off yer head" Anubis, Hermione Pennyfeather, and Elaura Wishbringer--who helped me figure out how to do the basics. Prokofy Neva, another old friend from that other world, provided a regular supply of hard-headed practical advice as well as encouraging me to explore much more of the platform's diverse landscapes, art, and architecture.

Later on, the friendship and generosity of Oliphant Ming (again an old TSO friend), Lily Rose Pavlova, and the remarkable cast of characters who inhabited the old Ananago sim led me to look at the platform and its subcultures in a different, more open way. They were incredibly tolerant of a moody old tatooed madman who wandered through their land at Oli's invitation.

Most recently, I have found a whole new purpose to my participation in SL by becoming a part of Caledon, one of the platform's most interesting, creative and surprisingly inclusive communities., This of course, would not be possible without the friendly encouragment and open-hearted managment style of Desmond Shang, a real "gentleman" in the way that my old FDNY friends used the word. And even now, good folks there--like my neighbor, the delightfully eccentric creative engineer Alex Chadborne, the inventive Cultured Fur artisans Jeremy Pertwee and Bastillion Bachmann, and the ever patient and highly skilled architect and community pillar Charlene Trudeau--continue helping me along in numerous ways, both small and large, so that I can appreciate the subtleties of this world more fully and to enjoy a remarkable sense of belonging.

ASHTYN PROUDFOOT is GREAT
07-05-2006 20:38
sorry. didn't mean to yell. But ashtyn took me by the hand, and with an hour of coaching, saved me from days of stumbling around. It was a BIG help just to have someone as a mentor to answer a few of the <dumb> questions that us Newbies always have.

I've tried to repay the favor by spending time with two others who were first day, and stumbling badly. Now they're teaching me things!

Thanks for the headstart, Ashtyn!

Actually , I have this person on my friends list but have never encountered them beyond my first night, she not only told/showed me how to do things but helped me conqeror some daunting newbie tasks like positioning shades on my face.
But until the day she cuts the card, Lily Valentino will remain on my friends list cause she encouraged me to stay, gave me tips to finding my first job and so on :)

Toy Lafollette - the very first person I met! Taking her classes was awesome and having her always be there when I ooopsied a build and needed help or had questions.

Loki Pico - a fellow shutterbug and the best person on the planet to have to show you around SL when you're new :D

Sens and Asri - for showing everyone what fashion shows were supposed to be, and thereby making it easier for the rest of us to do our thang ;)

Lee Linden - for being patient with me at the (best ever!) WA while I asked him stuff like what's considered ok to say in PG areas. (it was that whole clitoris piercing convo that got that started lol!)

Baku - For showing me beautiful builds, being an awesome tenant and gettin me my first nipples

Paris and Darko - for initiating me to the CC and all the fun therein and how to really get down and make the most of those cool pyramid dance machines ;) One Love!

Ace and Leck - for popping my VR pot smokin cherry

Jamie Otis - for The Learning Center - all the classes, help and support when I finally broke out on my own with the NCI.

Moopfie - for havin the best places to hang around at, and cool, cutting edge, fun gadgets and items that even Noobies could afford.

Damien Fate and Misty Reves - for having THE BEST show and tells evar. Damien's were geared towared Noobies, and Misty's were open to all but still incredibly supportive and you were never scared to show your latest thing-a-ma-jig

Harry Manilow & the Sandbox Crew (Pinky, Dougie, Paradigm) - Harry for showing the coolest vehicles and giving me my first flight EVER; Pinky for understanding how cool it is to have a dance floor and boogie on down in the middle of the Sandbox; Dougie for his HAIR - I knew then that all things were possible; Para - for my flaming pink particles and for abducting in the most fab spaceship ever!

Uncle Linden - for stickin up for my Noobie butt when the (usual) forum smacktards tried to kick my ass for suggesting a new way to do something.

The First Round of BC Models - Who wore my outfits, worked the runways and survived the Bootcamps and NEVER balked at being seen in public wearing my outlandish Noob designs.

I'm forgetting a bunch, it was awhile ago and my memory has never been the best. But I do want to mention my Spices, Grey Mars and Ariel Monde who encouraged me to learn more building, try out new things and never wavered in their support even tho I broke stuff (sims!??!) and things sploded a lot while I was learning.

HUGGSS LURVE You Guys!

AL are her FAULT that I today have my EXAKT store - who else can I blame?:-)))

Maybe Pham that let me build his 50 is styled house.. and dident stress me at any point... it took only 4 months.. or Estrelle that have I built 2 private homes and one store...(faster) or the largest pool ever in SL at Doyle to my X Mr Shark..... when most prims got phantom over a night and i was forced to rebuild it from scratch..

Manni McArdle, my first friend, and first non-newbie I spoke to. After being scared away from the welcome area, I barged onto his lot while he was in the process of building, and he was extremely kind to me despite my ignorance. He gave me a bunch of landmarks to newbie-friendly spots, which is really the best possible thing one can do for a new player!

onionpencil Musashi, the first person I met at The Shelter, my second SL friend and the world's most helpful puffin. :) Pointed out the freebies, explained the dancing, and was just generally very welcoming.

Sumar Morgan, Lars Bismark, and Peter Gretzy, whom each informed me of Shelter events and still teach me something new every day!

Travis Lambert, for obvious reasons! I was a little starry-eyed when I met him for the first time, having seen his name all over the place, but he was (IS) so warm and down to earth!

Prokofy Nova, who graciously took the time to IM me in SL and help me buy my First Land plot, after reading a post in which I foolishly offered to buy a 512sqm parcel from anyone.

Summer Heaney, who struck up a conversation with me during an obvious moment of confusion, gave me a lovely tour of her residence, even invited me into her group, all when I was still fresh and uninformed.

Vertex Zenith, my first dance partner and the first person to make me laugh hysterically in SL, which is thankfully now a daily occurance. ;)

Carl Metropolitan, for being very gracious to me when I was chosen as a contestant during my first attended game show and stupidly kept prefacing my answers with "um". ;) And speaking of Carl...

Everyone involved with New Citizens Inc., The Gnubie Store, The Ivory Tower, and The Shelter!. Jumping into SL wouldn't have been nearly as easy or fun without these people so willing to dedicate their time and money to helping others!
