The people that helped me a lot in my noob days:

Baccara Rhodes.
Fey Brightwillow.
Einsman Schlegel.
Buck Weaver.
Dan Linden.

Baccara: You helped me out so much, first thing that pop up in my mind, it was halloween, and you learned me how to change the color of my skin, everytime i went in app.rance my laptop would crash, but finaly i we made it: i was a pumpkin.

Fey and Eins: you both were a couple back than, i remember, you let live in youre backyard in Rich were you both build a house for me ,wich i still have, afhter that, you both took me along to Welsh. i had such a great time!

Buck: my first impresion: Oh boy he is sooo cute :o ( i still say that don't i:p), from then till now, you learned me to laugh, have fun, going places, you learned me to live my second life.

Dan Linden: I was for the first time editing my land and sudenly i felt down in a hole were i could olmost not get out, no mather what i did, i could not fix that invisble hole.
I cant recal who Imed you, because i was not sure yet what a Linden was at that time lol.
Scared as i was, for making a invisible hole, you told me it was a bug, that did not happen often, ( did not know what a bug was either, but did not care, atleast it was not my fault hhahahah) but, you fixed that hole with another Linden.
Till now, if something wasnt right or there were probs, you always showed.

The first person I met in SL was Catherine Omega..

Then I plopped myself down onto land next to her and built a giant penis tower in homage of her (yes, this was back in the day when land was to be had easily)... Poor poor Cat... I'm sure many a time she pauses and wishes she'd let the poor newbie fly right past....

Especially whenever my experiments crashed the server.

Everyone can blame her and Bel Muse for my corruption (from which I in turn have corrupted others)

Lady Dawson was a very nice to me time after time, she helped me with questions, getting settled, learning to build things, and overall guidance.

Paolo Portocarrero gave me an advance for buying land and has been at my side in SL and RL since the day I met him in SL. He has become a good friend of mine.

Having said this, I only listed the two people that were "older" than my avatar in SL and were the most helpful when I was a newbie.

I have met some seriously amazing people that are too many to list here. I thank them all for keeping me motivated, inspired and *sigh* addicted to SL.

I wish I could remember all the names of the people who have helped me. I haven't been a member long , but I've put in a lot of hours and I've met so many nice helpful people so far.

BushidoBrown Hightower - hope I'm spelling his name right...

Was so nice and helpful, brought us all over the place showing us where to get things :)

Dray Brocco, Chime Mission, TaiChi Pontoppidan, The Buddhists of SL group ;), multiple Lindens....

I know I'm forgetting people, and this is beginning to sound like an academy award acceptance a speech so I'll end here. :)

The people I will always remember when I first started and helped me out as not a newbie, but a new designer...
Princess Medici, Aliena Serpentine & Yari Yossarian, they were all very helpful to me and patient with me as I was learning to become a clothing designer, for that I will never forget them!
Thanks again guys!

People who were already in SL who helped me become acclimated:

Shadow Weaver
Madame Thespian Underhill
Ramon Kothari
Bob Bunderfeld
Cal Rogers
Sinclair Valen

People who joined around the same time as me - who either helped me or we helped each other out:

Dreamwizard Fairlight
Lynn Lippmann
Nick Fairlight
David Cartier
Devlin Gallant

Marilyn, I still have a copy of Tobacco Road (and the old club too, I am a sentimental packrat). It seems like ages ago you were telling us about the Joads and how you wanted to make Tobacco Road. I have since read the book and seen the movie with Fonda, because you reminded me that it was one of the Steinbeck stories I had missed all those years. Thank you for that!

Siobhan T, Jai and Wench's crew were the first to take me under their wings. Rafin taught me a lot about building. :)

In the beginning...

when I was a true noob the first person to greet me was Leonardo Murray. He was throwing a party in his house and I was amazed. I still remember the feeling of awe and excitement of what a raw new world this was.

The second person to truly help was, and I hate to admit it, Mike Kato.

Chip Midnight was the most fun to get to know. His place was THE place to hang out.

So very many people helped back then and the feel was truly one of family. I'm sorry that I can't name every single person that helped back then and most are long gone now anyway but all have a place in my heart. All make me smile with memories. Ok, not ALL make me smile but damned near most.

Thank you, to those that are still here, thank you to those long gone. Thanks LL for the vision and the world you let us create.

(Special thanks to Skee and the craziest of after-hour parties I've ever attended online)

P.S. Thank you Thunder for introducing me to SL even if you rue the day you did. :o

I'm another who early on in my SL met Loki Pico, and I'm proud to be able to call him a friend.
Ilianexsi Sojourner was also a major inspiration to me, and inspired me in the way i use my land, Ilian's one of the best in here.
And also Nyna Slate and Demian Caldera, Dragon Moon is still one of my favorite places.
The list goes on.... there are in reality far too many to mention, from people whom who've grown into good friends, to passing aquaintances ive bumped into briefly.
And the thing is, the process is ongoing, and i try to do my own part to help where i can to, its the best part of the community here.

Stumbling into the G-Spot
03-09-2006 08:54
Back when I was new, I had been wandering around for about a day, trying to determine why on earth I would stay. My experiences weren't bad, just not good either, I didn't find many people to be helpful; most had a low tolerance for newbies, telling me to do things that I had no clue about (i.e. get a skin).

Then I stumbled into the G-Spot one day which quickly became my favorite haunt. The reason: one person, Gabriella Molinari. She was friendly, made me feel at home, was never to busy to answer a dumb question, introduced me to people, and turned this from a passing moment into the addiction it currently is.

In case I've never said it, thank you Gabriella.

After reading the above post by Taco, I just *had* to say something. Taco Rubio was the first person I remember meeting when I was very very young. He was kind and gracious enough to take the time to explain a few things to a frustrated newbie, like how to turn down my draw distance so I could actually move around and enjoy sl for the first time. I'm still not sure why he kept taking my picture though ;)

Bollox!!!

From the moment her pretty little ass came fluttering through the Morris sandbox for the first time. She was more warped than a wood carving of Charles Manson that had been left out in the rain for 200 years and then sent on a voyage on the Starship Enterprise into Satan's bottom at a Warped Factor of "OMFG!! SHE'S GONNA APPLY FOR DIVORCE CAPTIN!!!" NINE.

I was just a sweet little boy minding my own business and she came and turned my (Second) life upside down.

I'm very slowly recovering. I see a priest two days per week, he rambles something in latin and squirts "holy water" into my face. He says it'll help cleanse my soul of her.

But despite the warpage, she's actually quite nice and a damn fine builder :)

Forgive me if I misunderstand your post...I am just skimming but I noticed:

"I was just a sweet little boy"
"I see a priest"
"squirts in my face"

I'm confused but I will read your post more carefully when I get home.

Freya Becquerel - Freya got me into Primtionary, and the L$25-a-guess winnings financed many an upload in my newbie days.

Mikayla Gillespie - Mikayla introduced me to the Squidsoft crew, who have consistently been cool people and some of my best friends in SL. I don't get to talk to Mika much nowadays, but if it weren't for her, I might not still be in SL.

Jessica Qin - joined a bit later than me, but went into overtime making stuff; I think it was her VR Room that really opened me up to the possibilities of SL.

Travis Lambert and the rest of the Shelter crew - The Shelter = love.

And y'know what? Even though I seem to be on Prok's shit-list nowadays, I have to give a shout-out; however much I disagree with Prokofy's opinions and mannerisms, Prok was an aid to getting me started, from buying my first land on, and in my mind remains a solid example of a businessperson in SL... just don't discuss politics with him.

I came over to Secondlife during the great THERE migration. Many of us worked together and explored together which eased a lot of the initial panics of "what do I do now that I'm here?," but three people stand out in my mind as being very helpful.

First, though I don't see him post much here anymore, had to be James Miller. James took a lot of heat on the THERE fan boards for promoting SL like he did. Hostility to anything Secondlife is STILL high even after two years. Makes you wonder sometimes.

Second, and I doubt he remembers it, but I have to give thanks to Cristiano Midnight. Ano was the designated host and tour guide for many of us making the pilgrimage. I don't think I told him personally, so will tell him now, TY Ano for helping me feel welcome in Secondlife.

Finally, I want to thank someone that doesn't even know how much he helped me, because it was through his tutorials that I first figured out building. Lumiere Noir should be deified. I had the pleasure of meeting this gentle and talented spirit when he was active in THERE, and I will say, he put the original idea in my head to come here. This man is not only extremely creative, extremely articulate, he has a sense of humor that will leave you breathless from laughter. Forget Help Island, forget the Welcome Areas, just teleport people directly to his Ivory Tower of Prims and be done with it. :D
