Lindens are gonna buy back telehub land at L$10/m -- Fair?

Let's see -

1. Large telehub landowers have their property devalued due to an LL action.

2. Small individual landowers have their property devalued due to an LL inaction (permitting signage griefing)

Case 1 gets a hefty buyout, case 2 gets tough luck slap. It wouldn't have anything to do with the monetary clout carried by those in category 1, would it?

Yup. Seems fair to me.

They know from lo these many months that they will survive our disillusionment because we aren't going anywhere. Very very few people have actually packed up and left because of it. We proved long ago that we would tolerate any treatment they perpetrated. So no worries there.

Well it also affects you in a more tangible way. Robin announced that the reparations will be paid by "created" money. This action devalues the Linden dollar (even if only slightly.) That is to say, to pay telehub landowners their reparations, all of OUR linden dollars will be devalued slightly.

Basically WE are ALL paying telehub landowners their reparations, not Linden Lab.

If more hotties show their ass in protest, something good may come of all this after all!!

Personally what I think is in our best interest is to get LL to stop meddling in social engineering projects and just focus on giving us the features and tools to make more intelligent choices, have more flexibility in permissions, make the tools for setting up collaborative efforts more flexible and able to serve many diverse aims and arrangements, and above all keep improving the actual content creation tools... oh, and of course doing what they can to try and make sure permissions and inventory bugs don't happen. I'd like to see them taking pro-active steps aimed at helping us tailor the world to our needs instead of reactive steps aimed at satisfying particular demographics.

I think our long term goals are best served by a solid infrastructure with as much flexibility as possible. I think anything that pushes LL off of that path or diverts resources elsewhere works against us in the long run. But then of course we run into the culture conflict between creators and people more interested in having some kind of "game" provided for them ASAP. If LL is still counting on the content creation community to provide that then they need to focus on tools that give us more ways to provide it, and not waste time with bandaides and duct tape.

As for the times changing, I think that was inevitable. We were able to feel so involved and "part of the team" so to speak because the world was small and the demands on LL's time were much less. It wasn't sustainable. On top of that, if my every action or reaction caused a random group of people to take up the pitchforks and torches, I doubt I'd come out of my bunker much anymore either.

What is it that you really want?

You want LL to reverse their decision again? Not compensate the telehub land owners?

Or you just want them to divert development time from SL to investigate the tons of minor loss reports that I'm sure LL is being flooded with now?

No matter what, your argument is self serving and somewhat hypocritical.

What are you going to do when LL does not compensate you and continues with their plans to payback telehub owners? Will you then flood the forums with statements that you're quitting and you're taking all your toys? Bah!

LL is completely in love with the idea of being able to manipulate their creation.

Me, I want some consistancy. Whether it's compensation for loss of money due to a Linden decision, or no compensation at all, I don't really care. But it should be the same for everyone.

Cristiano's ass in santa chaps isn't exactly going to discourage LL from making silly decisions. If anything it's more incentive to continue along the same path.

At least Aimee is discussing the issue. All you seem to be interested is is criticizing the people posting.

Selective reparations are what occur in business. LL is a business, not a country.

heh, I think they were. I think that they are slowly giving up. It seems to be a pumpy process though.

What I really want is for Linden Lab to stop treating their customers like shit - expecting us to absorb financial losses when they fuck up, with no assistance from them for the vast majority of their customers, but one group gets special financial consideration.

As far as it being self serving, Aimee isn't just saying "do this for me". She is saying do this for those who have been damaged not only by LL's actions, but their inactions and negligence as well. That is no more self-serving than telehub land owners wanting to be compesated for their loss.

They can't take away the offer now, but they have opened up pandora's box of having to provide reparations for any quantifiable financial loss in the future. They set a precedent here, a stupid one at that, and you will see the results in the future.

Maybe you should be here longer than five minutes, and experience what others have gone through before criticizing them.

Do beer drinkers complain that when they drink the beer hot cheerleaders don't suddenly want to have sex with them? If I buy a lexus and am not suddenly married to a gorgeous blonde and driving along the coast a lot listening to jazz can I complain that I've been misled? Literalism isn't very useful for deciphering idealized marketing pitches.

The point Cris is making is that there's a lot of history in these forums and it's not cool to show up as a relative n00b and start criticizing people who have been here (and in SL) for a long time.

Lots of forum n00bs fall into this trap (I did myself, in fact).
