Lindens are gonna buy back telehub land at L$10/m -- Fair?

Is that a fair amount? Should they even be buying it back at all?

I figured they would do a buy-back, but I thought they would offer more than L$10/m, since they were the ones who started the bidding on telehub land way above L$10/m.

I think it's not fair period. Sheeshus Krist, what a little whining will get ya. Excuse me while I leave to figure out a new way to extort LL.

Only if they are using money they took from people who over-promoted Telehub land in the first place.

If LL has some use in mind for the land, this seems reasonable. If it's just a payoff, then I want mine too! There's no way it was as valuable to me as what I paid for it. Nevermind how close it is to a former telehub.

They might also consider offering to buy land from the people currently owning land adjacent to the Bush Signs.

Many of these people feel they are being shafted by Linden inaction just as much as those who own land next to former telehubs.

Also I want to reimbursed for the quarter sim I used to own and sold for a loss because the performance sucked soooo bad.

Plus the last pair of shoes I bought don't fit quite right, I wonder if the Linden staff would exchange them for me.

===============

Does this decision come out of the blue sky to some degree? I'd not read anything suggesting they were doing anything like that.

I think this is about action (adding P2P) rather than inaction, though.

And here I thought the demise of 'actual' event support was the stupidest thing that LL had done. Good grief. Anybody want to take over the Iraq Memorial? I don't want to pay the tier anymore.

Personally, I think its a waste. I'll bet that most of the telehub mall operators recovered the costs in the form of premium rents.

This appears to be a break with tradition.

Around October of 2004 there was a bug that caused the content of sale boxes for many content creators to become full copy/mod/transfer. This Linden bug caused a tremendous amount of content creator's items to become public domain and resulted in huge losses for me and others. Back then, the Lindens said they would not provide any sort of reparations ... and we accepted that.

It would appear that we were too accommodating. It looks like screaming, hollering, and taking ads asking users to turn their backs on Linden Lab is what we SHOULD have done.

Now we know.

I was not entirely serious in my suggestion, though I am sure that those who can't enjoy their land don't feel it is a very good topic for humor. For those who feel shafted, the difference between action and inaction may not seem too important.

Just to make it clear, the comments about my land and shoes are purely a joke, although back when it was closer to the time when I had, from my point of view, lost several hundred dollars on my land I might have said the same thing and meant it, so far as feeling goes, even though I knew I had no real claim.

Don't suppose their might be a FIC connection, maybe some of the beneficiaries live in San Francisco and eat lunch with the Linden staff from time to time, or some other incredibly corrupt thing like that?

Are the extremely large land owners gonna benefit?

I had believed this was the policy as well. From what I was informed by LL, some of my vehicle scripts were stolen and made public. I didn't think to scream and holler over the matter either. Perhaps I should have because they were easily worth another $1000 or so to me if I had cared to pursue that business.

To the whiners, I say suck it up! It was not LL who ripped you off.

It would appear to me (look out naming names is coming) that indeed Anshe and Prok et. al. indeed hold the purse strings at LL. This is a sad day.

That's a great point, Ananda - I keep forgetting that hub land owners may have paid a premium through a land broker and not necessarily through LL.

donation efforts,
Travis, this may not be the place to ask, but it's been bugging me for a good while now, how much additional donations are you needing?

I would say that was the rule and not the exception. Which is why this insences(sp) me to no end.

FIC? I doubt it. Most of the comments I've read from anyone who might be considered FIC run along the lines of 'suck it up, change happens'. Living in proximity to LL's offices affords nothing other than a sweet SF zip code.

This is fantastic news for the Shelter.

Tiering down because of the loss of the DI is an inevitability for us. The telehub changes have rendered that incredibly difficult now - as not only has our land lost over half of its value (original price $12+/sqm) - but it appears to have become completely undesireable as well - overnight.

I've been stressing recently over the posibility of being stuck with a hunk of land that i'd essentially have to give away to be rid of. If anything was going to break us - it was this double whammy that had the best chance.

The proceeds from the buyback will make it easier to cushion while we ramp up our donation efforts, and hopefully ride out the storm that's building for when the DI initially disappears completely.

Just as a tangental matter, does that mean the Shelter is going to move entirely, or you're just going to sell off land you were planning to get rid of anyway?

So, the brokers get away with the goods and LL is offering up the peace pipe?

Uhhhh... that doesn't make any sense.

Also, the definitions over what properties are 'eligible' could use some further clarification. Per Robin's note, eligibility requirements are:

- land was purchased between Aug. 1 and Dec. 8, 2005
- land is located within 128 meters of the hub landing point.
- only current owners of the land are eligible

What it doesn't mention is whether that land had to have been purchased *from* LL or if purchases from a land broker during the stated time frame are also eligible. I suspect those types are not, but I hope I'm wrong.

Considering the average selling price for hub land from a broker, $10 per m2 is not much of a compensation.

Now that LL has set a precedent, I would like compensation for the beachfront land I had that LL devalued by selling the surrounding Protected Land. L$8/m2 will be fine. I'm not greedy.

I'd also like L$ compensation for all the hard work and inventory LL fucked up with their bugs, all the lost items, all the permissions bugs that gave it all away free. At the VERY least I'd like to be refunded for the thousands in Upload costs due to LL mistakes.

You can either settle with $Lindens or credit my PayPal account.

Thanks.

Exactly - this is a really stupid thing for them to do. I am really shocked that they did it, honestly. There have been all kinds of financial losses due to changes in SL, exploits, bugs, etc, yet LL's attitude has always been "oh well". Why do telehub land owners deserve some special treatment? I paid over $20/m for land in Mavericks - which was the average at the time I bought it. I can never recoup that cost now, the land market has changed. I guess it goes to show you that with enough whining and lobbying, you can get just about anything.
