Let's get the facts first. Plan a smart approach to this problem.
LL allows the most creative freedoms. That is why I spend a lot of time in SL. The creative genius here is unbelievable. But it does provide an opportunity for that genius to go bad or simply screw up. If you send in the Lawyers, they will do everything they can to prevent bad behavior and at the same time killing all rights of free expression, eliminating fair use, and shutting down creative imagination. I know first-hand. I am a RL cyber/computer lawyer. I study this stuff for a living. Lawyers and the courts just don't understand how to balance things regarding creative expression in this space. If you study out what hackers are, the best of them tend to have a code of conduct. What has occured recently does not deserve giving these people a title that will make them proud. They want to be known as hackers, when in fact they are childish pranksters that are not out for free information or tackling computer security as a challenge. Their sole purpose was to cause grief. In reality these people are more like digital terrorist. We need a more harsh name that won't give these people a warm fuzzy feeling inside when people get angry at them. If they are one of the prople that still likes to call themselves 31337, then don't make them think they have attained their goal by doing something stupid and childish like crashing a bunch of servers for the fun of it. True hackers do everything they can to gain more knowledge about computer systems than almost anyone else, and some of them even work for corporations to fix these problems. Why are these scum bags made to think they are smart by giving them a title like hackers. That is what they want to be called. What these people did was not that intelligent, they didn't even cover their tracks. |
