From: Pixeleen Mistral In the far southeast continent, you have created a series of islands surrounded by water. However, there is not a continuous ring of protected not-for-sale water sims around this continent, so people boating or flying aircraft contend with security scripts, ban lines and obstructive builds. When will you connect the protected water sims you already have in place, so that we have the infrastructure to use our boats and planes properly? If you want resident-created content and events, you need to provide at least some infrastructure to support us. Give us navigable water, please.
I second this. The sailing contingent of SL is a growing population and open water ways are desperately needed. Many people purchase up those water parcels and throw builds with bans up and it makes it really difficult to sail. I would also love to see a water combat sim or two added in the SE for Pirate Navel battles. Currently we attempt to hold them in Sanchon, but having an additional sim would be very helpful. Thanks!

From: Beryl Greenacre So, here's my question: Are any plans in the works within LL to develop a Linden-run catalog of SL shopping, allowing content providers to offer their goods/services for sale to the public, that would be either or both built into the SL UI or/and accessible through the SL website, to ensure better access for users and more exposure for content creators than what is currently available on disparate private shopping sites?
Great question, seconded.

Seconding Navigational Waters post

VERY frustrating to be sailing along, then find yourself launched into space by someone's security script. The "You have 5 seconds to exit the area" does not work well when you have to tack upwind to change direction.... /108/50/92790/3.html#post930840

From: Ricky Zamboni Exactly like GOM. Do you not agree that it would greatly benefit the whole community if users could make purchases through SL.com with the convenience of not having to register with and trust a third-party? That was Philip's argument in favour of usurping currency exchange. Why haven't they done the same thing with shopping? Dunno, but good thinking. I'd do almost anything to get more eyeballs able to see my product.

slexchange/slboutique don't really make a lot of sense as it turns out.
They're useful for finding content, but I don't think they're that useful for buying content (except perhaps clothing)
After all, you should probably see it in SL before purchasing.
I'm not saying they don't fill a niche, but I don't think they're going to take over the world either.
What would make sense, but is a bit of a gamble, would be to allow people to buy items they see in world and pay to the creator rather than the owner. This has been suggested forever by many different people, and it seems like a complete no brainer.
Unfortunately, LL is either scared of touching that programming, can't figure out how to avoid resetting the object on a purchase, or thinks it'll kill the stores and malls which rent a lot of land in SL. Malls and stores are a nice virtual artifact which help people migrate to the SL a lot better.
Maybe as SL grows and malls and stores are not such a large % of land ownership this will become a more important feature.

I second the post concerning the far southeast continent. As it is, it is almost impossible to make a full circle around the continent. This can be clearly seen on the map in the Danbi, Seonhan, Yongchon, and Hyeonjeong waters. The general area seems to be built as a sailor's paradise, however it's become somewhat closer to an obstacle course.

I would agree wholeheartedly with this, it would be nice not only for sailing but aircraft as well. I'd like to see an 'air corridor' as well, maybe at cloud-level height for those wishing to fly from one place to another as well as clear sea zones for sailing.

I would love to see more open water for any kind of activity. I support this idea.

However, there is not a continuous ring of protected not-for-sale water sims around this continent, so people boating or flying aircraft contend with security scripts, ban lines and obstructive builds. If you want resident-created content and events, you need to provide at least some infrastructure to support us. Give us navigable water, please.
We know that void sims are much much less expensive to provide than regular sims. Linden Labs left out the roads and other transportation infrastructure in the southeast continent. Can you provide at least a ring of navigable water to an area with land designed specifically to appeal to a marine/boating community? This issue applies to the other mainland continents as well, but the need is acute in the southeast continent, as the formerly open water gets clogged with builds, ban lines, and security scripts...and we don't have any roads. The payoff is the greatest here too, since a few more void sims will make it possible to navigate around the continent independent of the whims of specific landowners.
Specifics: 1.) Link protected water Daebeom-Pulsori with Byeolgwadal-Garam-Nana by putting one sim east of Danbi
2.) link the existing protected water sims Daebeom-Pulsori to Haneulgil, with a one sim east of Haneulgil
3.) Link protected water in Cheongdam-Jilseo-Sandeulbaram-Banpo-Tal-Jinju-Dongbaekmaeul-Neulchan-Daseuri with Haengbok by putting one sim west of Haengbok and one north of Cheongdam
Steps 1-3 use 4 void sims to consolidate the existing navigable water on the east and west side of the continent. These two areas can be links by adding 7 protected water sims: north of Haengbok, west of Sanchon, north of Haneulgil, north and northeast of Yongchon, north and northwest of Sanchon. I would love to see more open water for any kind of activity. I support this idea.

I should note that (2) is not necessary as long as I continue to hold the NE corner of Solha, which I've designated as "Clear Passage" specifically to make sure people can sail between Haneulgil and Daebeom. On the other hand, wider passage would be nice, and I'm not going to live forever -- what if the next owner isn't so inclined? For the long term, I think LL needs to make sure there's always a void sim at the edge of the map rather than the invisible wall, or if that's too much of a burden, they can skimp in places here and there by using a bit of protected land (e.g. the NE corner of Solha). Just so that there's always *some* protected land between the continent and the edge of the map, if not an entire sim.

I have a question that wraps together many of those above. I hope the fact that it is not a snappy one-liner question and response does not automatically exclude it from being asked? Some backgroundThere is a current, widely-held perception that communication between LL and the community is at an all-time low. This has come from the fact that LL have ignored major forms of communication recently: Forum questions aren't commented upon; the feature suggestions are not updated, but left to rot; the results of threads where LL have actually asked for comment from residents is ignored in favour of what they think the answer should have been, without giving damn good reason why. This also has the side-effect of producing a group of people who, through personal endeavour or long service, are in a position to give comment to staff within LL about ideas for new features, updates and projects. This is because, through ordinary social processes, their opinion has become trusted and accepted. There is very little that can be done about this situation until LL bring in a much better way of handling new features and communicating their intention to the residents. What is needed is a revamped and vastly improved in-world voting tool, and LL must be prepared to: o Give updates on what they're working on right now o Give updates on what the latest status is of each of those items o Give schedules of when they plan to bring them in o Give their order of priority is for the items they're not currently working on o Give reasons why they're not going to/can't bring in each suggestion they turn downo Give us the option to vote no to proposals. The key to any good relationship is communication. LL... you are currently guilty of refusing to talk to your partner and stand suspected of cheating because you won't hold a proper conversation. The only way to put this situation right is to talk as I suggested above and, with a little counselling, things could be wonderful between us! The QuestionWould LL be willing to attach a Liasion Linden to the development team to update the voting tool with information directly from the developers in line with the topics above? Including information, comments and opinions such as those seen during the 'Browser on a prim' postings, where we were able to see comments about why they were having problems with a particular feature, what a painful time it was, etc. Real insider comment - not just the big flashy head, but comment from behind-the-curtain too.

How is the new 2.0 renderer coming along, and what new improvements can we expect with it aside from greatly increased draw distance?

From: Neil Protagonist How is the new 2.0 renderer coming along, and what new improvements can we expect with it aside from greatly increased draw distance? Erm, I guess you missed Steve Linden's admission recently, which was much the same as Andrew Linden's admission on Havok. Basically they developed it seperately and couldn't then integrate it into the code for the client because it proved too difficult. He said we'd be drip fed improvements over time, giving a time scale of 6 months (but we all know what that means). He didn't actually state whether this drip feed would lead us to havingthe full feature set from the 2.0 renderer though. EDIT: Here's a link to the thread with his post on: /invalid_link.html

security script users
03-13-2006 06:49
When is Linden Labs going to do something about those abusive security script users? I have been pushed, tp off and sent home while on land that does not belong to the land owner! They always claim that they can’t but I know better. I bought such a script and found out that they can do this function. True the maker of the security script (the resident behind that tree) says not to in the docs but still includes it in the script functions. Abuse reports have been sent and nothing is ever done. This has impacted my enjoyment of the game.

From: Khamon Fate I want to change my question to ask if y'all have talked about this at all and if not, why not, and if so, are you going to do it and if not, why not? I think the bit you quoted explains much of it: " [they think] it'll kill the stores and malls which rent a lot of land in SL" There is one huge advantage to SLBoutique.com: there are many clothiers who make their items copy, no-xfer, so being able to send a "gift" to another player as one can via SLB is just impossible in-game. This whole dance is an artifact of the fine SL permissions system, but... moderators: I know that this is off the topic of the OP, but this thread has broadened into a general discussion, so please don't hate me.

The only answer is to stagger times so that every 3 months, for example, one of these meetings falls in a convenient timezone for 99% of the active player base. So, sorry, no, think outside your box.
