Phil baby,

Is the permissions system really ever going to be "fixed," both to be more intelligible/logical and also so as to include the possibility of non-commercial or "free" permissions that persist through transfers.

If so can we have:

- a concrete plan and timeline as to how it will be done/implemented
- actual player participation/input in the design of said system

By "player participation" I mean more than just asking us what we think in a forum thread or gathering a few people to the meeting where you announce that your "working on it." I would like to see in-world groups content creator groups formed to actually hammer out the details.

Thanks, :)

How comes Vasudha Linden never posts to the forums? I'd love to see some professional economic analysis of SL, but whatever she's doing, it ain't talking to us ;)

Bub Linden mentioned that there was talk around the Linden offices of a suspicion that SL will be facing some competition in 2006.

Who or what is the expected competitor?

When will we get shopping included in the interface? Since classifieds are already included, it should be fairly simple to add a "buy now" button to make sales much more convenient. This would be of real benefit to the community at large. And while we're at it, why not add in a web-based shopping portal as well?

I third this one.

I also want to know why Flipper never answers my IMs. Has my ID been deleted from the Special List?

Hey philip i want to rip your other side of the pants :P

My question: When is Havok2 coming and HTML? Can you give a estimated time? And did they find someone to help LL with the HTML issue?

When will we be getting speedTree?

If not SpeedTree, how about some more plants?

Philip,

In the past, you have quoted a target exchange rate of L$250/US$. Given the consistent slide toward lower valuations, are you prepared to:
(a) Admit LL's stewardship if the economy had been completely inadequate and implement measures to drive the rate back up to your target?
(b) Re-evaluate the target rate, and place it lower (perhaps on par with the equivalent cost of the stipend received over the course of a year)?
(c) Give up on the notion of a target rate, and let the market 'do what it will'?
or
(d) Something else?

And please don't try to claim as you have previously that the L$ is in fact stable. That is demonstrably incorrect and it would be an insult to your users to make such a claim.

I believe that content is the only thing that really matters, and so I'd like to know what LL's plans are for encouraging splendid content.

Prim sizes
03-11-2006 10:58
From: Feynt Mistral
My question however is related to prim sizes. Would it be possible to raise the prim size limits to something like... 27000m^3 (30x30x30 meters)?

I second that, however wouldn't it make more sense if the prim size limit was 12m3 or 16m3 or some other multiple of 4 considering the grid is based on multiples of 4?

Dear Philip,

I have a very simple question that neatly encapsulates all the exciting talk of the big new features that's gone on for, well I don't know, at least 2 years for some "features":

WHEN?????

Oh and one final question: Are you changing your underwear 5 times a day thinking about competition coming before you lot have actually managed to sort your spaghetti code-base out so as to allow you to move forward at something other than the excruciatingly slow pace you are doing, leaving many of your customers disenfranchised and wishing night and day that the competition arrives soon? I know I would be. Probably more than 5 times, for that matter.

Is there any hope for an end to gray loading textures in objects, in the map, in profile pictures, and it the screenshot that appears in the bug report filing dialog.

I do get real aggravated when I am trying to file a bug report about gray loading textures and I have to wait 5 mintues for the screenshot to change from a gray loading textue to a screenshot of gray loading textures.

address resource-hogs?

I think that the Lindens are well aware now of the sorry situation in Yucca that has been going on - a problem that is and will show up in other sims.

Why does Linden Labs not take active steps against camping chairs?

Why does LL ignore one resident taking ALL of a sim's resources and why do they not do something about it?

SL developer's environment - strategic direction/goals
03-11-2006 14:30
Phillip,

From a SL developers point of view (LSL etc):

[1] What is the longer term LL strategic goal regarding the SL development platform? Some potential subpoints/talking points:
- is the provision of a rich development environment which is on par with other game development platforms seen as key to ensure SL's future (against competition etc)
- some of the other game development platforms provide a far more richer environment for development: can you eleborate on why this is so and whether LL are working towards bridging this gap. It would be very interesting to hear why technically, given the broad platform that SL is, why there may have been a need to keep the development environment and tools (LSL, IDE) simple/basic

[2] Can you provide any target milestones dates for moving forward with advancement of the developer platform? (i.e. question 1 was strategic/long term goal related, this one is what are the next steps along the path to the goal)
- how & when will Mono/C# fit into this
- are there any major developer environment improvements which are planned for upcoming releases (say in the next 6 months to 2 years) that you can share?

Thanks for taking questions for those of us who, due to timezone differences, can't make it.

Regards
Greg

Seeing grass through my walls when that grass is 250m away from me is really annoying, not to mention the problems with placing an alpha'ed plant or other object within a room with alpha'ed windows or doors.

Yes.

There are already at least three: http://secondserver.net, http://slboutique.com, http://slexchange.com

Aren't they enough? :)

Oh, but definitely better ways to interface SL to RL should be a priority...

Are there any plans to add more advanced tools/options for building in the near future? And if so, when?

Philip: Do you ever want any of my money again, or is it your intention to continue funnelling it all to private land developers and caving to their every wish from now on?

By giving private land holders more and more tools to remove themselves from the whims of the main grid, doesn't this further splinter the community into sub-groups? Does this herald a change of a shared world into a more sharded one, similar to web pages?

I think it would be more convenient for the community as a whole if everyone could easily shop through the SecondLife.com website without having to trust a third-party for our e-commerce. Having to visit an external site, make a deposit of L$ through a terminal in-world, etc., is putting a damper on content creators' sales. LL should implement web shopping themselves for the benefit the whole community.

what is GOM? I went to http://www.gamingopenmarket.com/ but got this:
Gaming Open Market Corp.

Thank you for your interest in Gaming Open Market. We are no longer operating the currency exchange. It's entirely possible that we might re-open it in one form or another in the future, but the path forward at this point is unclear.
