First off, great event time, good to see some seriously euro-friendly ones My question: If you could introduce one feature to Second Life with the snap of a finger (only one), what would it be?

Land Teraformability Limits
03-10-2006 18:01
I know in the past, land could be edited far more than 4 meters up and a down.
I do UNDERSTAND the reasoning behind removing this kind of freedom due to abuse, HOWEVER, i feel that 4 meters is SIMPLY not enough.
Unlike quite a lot of residents to who flatten all their land to build on it, im one of quite a few who want to be able to sculpt their vast amounts of land into beautiful landscapes to put homes on.
THE QUESTION: Is the land teraformability limit being reconsidered? If so, how large of a change can be expect? Will this change affect ALL or SOME sims presently in existance?
Cheers and Good Luck! Alleyn David
P.S. My total lack of posts I THINK indicates that i only post if I REALLY NEED OR WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING..... *hint hint*

Why are town hall meetings held at bad times, 2:30pm on the west coast? well if your in the US you are probally at work... anything past the east coast starts to get late night for other ppl live events on MMO games usually happen two times do an early one for the euro's do a late one for the ppl east of you conglomerate them both in a report on the forums so noone is left out and also i would like to ask Alleyn David's question cause 4m is just useless

I think you should amend that with "can you keep a .plan for news on the new physics engine?" My question however is related to prim sizes. Would it be possible to raise the prim size limits to something like... 27000m^3 (30x30x30 meters)? I'm guessing the size limit is physics related, so perhaps disabling the ability to activate physics on objects larger than 10m would be in order (and happily accepted by residents I'm sure).

Call me cynical, but...here goes....
What is the large-impacting and/or controversial change LL is about to introduce that would spawn the need for Philip to feel he needs to hold a townhall meeting?

Two questions: First Question: Can you tell us the average weekly total money supply delta? That is, L$ going into the economy (stipends, dwell, etc) minus L$ going into sinks (upload fee, classifieds, find tab, land sales, etc)? Second Question: Can you tell us what the plan is to deal with decreasing concurrency numbers.. http://planet0.planet-zero.org/~chromal/slpop/For the last two weeks these numbers have been slowly dropping. Have you thought about re-introducing the basic account 1000 L$ reward?

When will the alpha order bug be fixed?
Seeing grass through my walls when that grass is 250m away from me is really annoying, not to mention the problems with placing an alpha'ed plant or other object within a room with alpha'ed windows or doors.

Will there ever be any form of long term reward to encourage customer loyalty to SL such as incrementally lowered tier payments, land allocation bonus (like the 10% group bonus) etc.?

What are the goals of SL economic policy, and what mechanisms is LL using to to accomplish those goals? Follow up: Economic data used to be shared with the users here: https://secondlife.com/community/economy.phpCan this information be made available to us again?

I belive the era of the individual content maker is drawing to a close and that large projects making games and other activities is getting ready to pounce. When is LL going to turn thier attention to helping make group projects easier and safer? (Better and finer grained group tools, expanded permissions, etc.)

How does Linden Lab plan on getting all the major tasks done that need to be to make Second Life a viable Internet platform before subscriber count gets too big to handle?

Given that the devs are too busy with some other projects to fix SL bugs - the list is growing and growing From: Karen Linden We had a bunch of fixes scheduled for this week's release, but because of some conflicts with another project were able to implement only about half of them. (see here /255/c0/86065/1.html) and that the community manager thinks caring for cummunity related things like events and punishing people abusing rules is too much of a chore that's best thrown onto volunteers or "free market" From: Jesse Linden Patrolling the calendar has proven not particularly effective or scalable. A Linden (or resident) police force to dish out punishments for abuse is a time sink when our time is probably better spent elsewhere developing Second Life. (see here /110/9d/92156/1.html) and LL giving up on terraforming land and using builk auctions instead and your (Philip's) curious absence the past few months, I have the following question: What is Linden Lab's main focus these days? It can't be Second Life.

Hi Philip Imagine that a new company is considering using Second Life in 2006 for their own virtual world project instead of developing their own software. Knowing the rate of development of new features in SL, what would you tell them that were Second Life's 5 key characteristics that aren't available on competing platforms (either existing or under development) and that won't be available on those in the next 3 years? (the expected time to develop a Second Life "clone" from scratch)

Since DI is being taken away, does this mean tier costs will possibly go down in the future?
Or possibly set to a cost that reflects the owners actual land holdings instead of the way it is now.

Philip,
What is LL going to do to encourage those that don't fit into the normal business model such as Supportforhealing which offers free services and adds a lot of value (we believe) to SL.
Could there be discount for charity/support organizations like ourselves, live2give, brigadoon and any other similar group?
Also with regard to marketing, I feel that LL does not want to show SL's value as anything other than a fantasy world, when one of it's greatest positive uses is to bring people together to help and support each other in a wonderful and unique environment.
Kindest wishes
Zafu

I would like to know why so much of the mainland is so poorly designed as far as land parcel sizes go.
There are very few roads or other 'natural corridors of travel', to encourage non-teleport moving around the grid. Many players, myself included, would rather recreate a 'virtual reality' rather than a total fantasy.
Where there are roads, they weave about all over the place, and have created some very strange shaped parcels of land. In many places (including my land), wide strips of 'protected land', preventing users building close to the road, exist - and LL refuse to co-operate in any way to help me fulfil my virtual dreams, when all I am asking for is to carve up a few squares of land and sell them to me at the market rate.
I believe it is wrong, and not beneficial to the playerbase as a whole, to force people to buy private islands just to get a reasonably good plot of land.
LL gives in repeatedly to the 'big players', with huge disposable incomes, yet they form a very tiny minority of the playerbase. In fact, some of them can probably hardly be classed as 'players' when they are only here to make a real world income. It is about time LL recognised that many players who own smaller parcels of land contribute a great deal to the game, and often provide a much more rewarding and/or immersive experience than a laggy club that takes up half a sim, full of campers. The plan of digital utopia full of virtual capitalists may be a great dream, but it is not working.

2 questions for our revered leader It was hinted recently an open source SL possiblity is still on the table at LL. Open source or not, is there any likelyhood of user owned servers in the future ? ( private islands without the $1200 upfront cost maybe ) If so what kind of vague timescale ? and Will you be creating mirrors in Europe ? Thanks

In a concierge meeting held a month or so ago, it was announced that LL will be making some big changes regarding their philosophy on private estate land. We were informed that the changes will allow estate owners to be able to ‘sell’ plots of land within private estate Sims, and that the estate owner would be comparable to Governor Linden on the main grid. If the tools are to be used in exactly the same way as on the main grid, one would assume that officers of group deeded land will be able to ‘sell’ the plot to themselves. In addition, they would also be able to list this land for sale to anyone. As one of many that have used the group deed tool to pass on land permissions to others (as intended by LL), and not to pass on the image of ownership (as requested by LL), could you please reassure us that:
When the changes are implemented, officers of group deeded land are unable to ‘sell’ the plot to themselves or to others, but estate owners still have the ability to ‘sell’ plots within the same sim.
Everyone has different thoughts on what ‘sell’ means in SL, but that’s irrelevant to the concerns that I and many others have. Being able to set the land to an avatar’s name is indeed a good move forward, but not at the expense of everything that many have worked for so far. The thought that when the changes are made, rental residents across the Sims will be ‘selling’ land to themselves, believing they own the property, and/or reselling the land makes me want to stick needles in my eyes. I like being able to see /emotional blackmail.
