But at the end of it all, people spend a lot of time making their appearances, houses, clothes, possessions, on second life look realistic.

Ive been told that the cyber sex area of SL is the most extreme in this, and if you wanted to ban them for it saying 'in real life' theyre answer can just be that all of SL is a fantasy life and things are made to represent things in real life, who has 50,000 dollars? who has cute girls running after them? not many people, these are dellusions of a fake reality that have been designed to give people what they dont have in the real world.

In short, if everything is made to resemble goings on in the real world, and the sex related things are there to remind people of real sex, why cant they put that..

and if that arguement didnt work they could just say 'this is a fantasy world, PROVE that i meant it and its not part of the fantasy'

What Kerry is saying is that you seem to be offended by the group, therefore want it to be removed, which is wrong. She acknowledged, as i did, that the picture was offensive and whould have been removed.

There is a difference between actually committing a RL crime, and SAYING you committed a crime, in the charter of a virtual group in a virtual game, all within the context of roleplaying. As I tried to point out before, you can say whatever you want, if it doesn't incite others to commit a crime in RL.

When you say you advocate or participate in an illegal activity, you are giving a warrent for investigation whether you do or don't. When you post PORNOGRAPHY IN A STATE WHERE SAID PORN IS ILLEGAL, you are committing a crime. A RL crime WAS committed here, as that the image is illegal.

Condoning illegal activities can be seen as inciting, aiding, and abetting. This further puts you in deep water. It's LL's RESPONSIBILITY to take this content out of it's world, as that it endangers other residents legally. People who search for "beast" in groups are downloading and viewing porn that may be illegal in their area. It would be like a group putting CHILDPORN in a group icon. It's a legal sh!tstorm.

As long as it remains fake pixels there is no legal onus on anyone to do anything. As soon as there is a real picture or "IN REAL LIFE" attached to something illegal, there is an obligation not only to remove it but also REPORT THE ALLEGED ACTIVITY.

If you will notice, all sites on animal-human relations are either not located in an area where it is illegal, or they state plainly that nothing on the site is real. that's because the FBI can go in and say HAHA YOU GO AWAY FOR LONG TIME.

LL is just protecting the livelihood and privacy of it's greater resident population.

Why are you so enthralled with the word roleplaying? It's about RL, you cannot state "oh well maybe when they said 'in real life' they were talking about their SL life" nor anything close to that. Hiding behind your computer does nothing.

Not only was an illegal picture posted (and hosted on the SL servers, might I add, which is 100% illegal in the state of CA) but it's talking about committing illegal acts IRL. Believe it or not, saying you did/will blow up a building in real life might actually get you in trouble, even in an online game! Who knew!

Legally, it doesn't really matter if you don't really have a bomb in the airport and have no intention of blowing it up - your saying you did is what matters. I know that isn't a perfect analogy, but the previous posters have convinced me that it is probably the statement about "in real life" (along with the picture) that doomed this group.

Which is as it should be. LL must uphold the law; they are not, in other words, beyond the reach of the law.

As for judging people, yes I do - I judge everything and everybody as I move about this world. If I didn't, it would mean . . . I didn't think. Never formed an opinion, or took a stand. Now a lot of the time my stand is I don't care one way or the other. But I'm always going to judge things, for myself, as a thinking being.

Sometimes iwonder how i get myself into these things... I just hate it when people get on their moral high horse about this game. Ok, the group was in violation of Community Standards, and was shut down. No one has argued that that wasn't justified. And i get the difference with this group as opposed to some others since they used the phrase "All in RL" in their charter. I understand why you think that makes it worse.

I guess i just think of SL as ALL fantasy, including group charters, avi profiles, etc. Many people roleplay it entirely, including their whole RL story. Whatever they say in there has to be taken as part of the game. Frankly, admitting to a RL crime in your SL profile is more stupid than it is illegal...

But in the end you are right Miles, defending bestiality, or appearing to, does kinda leave a bad taste in my mouth (leave it alone!).

Hey Coco, when was the last time you heard of a group owner being able to change the name of the group? See several answers questions. Ofcourse LL is able to do this quiet easily.

So LL thought, ok this badly named animal farking club is causing too much forum talk, lets rename it to "Beast Masters!!" a badly played out soap opera based on some dude who loves Animals (late afternoons -- along with Xera and the other guy).

So the point is, LL renamed a group on the whim, when it has not done so so many times when people wanted it and pleaded it and gave very reasonable points etc. But here we see them rename the group. Once renamed, the owner of the group set it to hide.

THUS, LL has commited a crime as far as I can see. By letting crime happen and intentionally hiding it from the eyes of the forum going puritians.

I understand what you're saying and I'm not (trying to) press my morals on anyone. I hate that as well. I too defend ideas/groups, but when it's undeniably illegal in both the area that LL resides and my own (plus the group charter waves around saying HEY I DO THIS IN THE REAL WORLD and admits to it) how is it possible to defend it? I just don't see how someone can do it.

i bet if we met at some bad SL event we'd all be thrilled with each others witticisms and light playful banter... and probably all be friends. which is really the great thing about SL, isn't it? that people coming from very different places, in every sense of the word, meet and become friends and share their ideas and thoughts.

Well, I didn't report it, and it is certainly nothing more than a matter of mild interest for me. Shock for shock's sake just doesn't work on me (or much of anyone anymore), and sick is sick, but not particurly interesting.

But I certainly don't agree with the concept, and if I had been one who reported it for that, then I would certainly not be ashamed.
