I looked and there are only two W-hat's who are mentors, I'm one of them.

It's not like they fact check.. it's a tabloid.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you're referring to a group of tens of thousands of people with the word "they", you're completely full of shit. Hell, I wouldn't even say that about a group of a dozen people.

I really sincerely doubt you polled each and every person wih a +-2% margin of error with the question: "Do you enjoy and find humor in human suffering?", much less received any degree of completely objective consensus on the subject. Many people on the SA forums would take umbrage to the assertion that everybody just LOVES barbequeing them third-trimester-abortion babies.

Well, I have to admit the sheer absurdity of the thought is really fucking funny. You know, to me as an individual, not as some faceless automaton whose only identity is his allegiance to a group. As far as I know I'm still in w-hat, though I've been inactive for a long time doing stuff with my life that doesn't involve the internet. Granted, that might be somewhat of a foreign concept for some of you

If anything, the constant Herald diarrhea proves only the moral bankruptcy and uncaring mentality of conservatism. The core of the social part of the philosophy seems to be the abstraction of individuals into some amorphous, ill-defined "collective", which is purported to be of one mind or have absolute consensus on all things. This is the kind of thing I see going on in all the w-hat bitching threads on the SL forums.

Why do so many individuals on this forum do this? I mean, have we become so used to the American tradition of dehumanizing our enemies using this kind of cheap tactic that we have completely lost all ability to dissociate individual from group? Perhaps realizing along the way that the two more often than not are completely dissimilar in intent (if a group can be said to have "intent" at all, that is) would make the social climate here slightly more progressive.

SL's forumscape more often espouses a mentality of proto-Confucianism rather than traditional Liberalism. This has always been completely baffling to me. I feel the latter would suit a project like SL far better (if its founders had actually decided to practice what they preached insofar as "Your World/Imagination/etc" rather than playing "traditional" roles of moderation from on high).

Instead the prevailing attitude I've seen, with notable but few exceptions from people in w-hat and civ-lib-minded SLites, is "things I don't like/the majority doesn't like (the two are often conflated) should be censored, so I'm going to cry and stamp my feet until Daddy Linden does it for me!" Stop it with the argumentum ad populum (ad nauseum). Seriously, just stop. Just because X more people want it one way does not make them somehow more entitled to their way; if anything, one typically sees a decrease in ideological "purity" as more people get behind a concept or ideology, simply because no one such thing FITS everybody. Ironically, what we usually end up with, especially on the Internet, is one asshole who thinks he has the right to "speak for" the majority

Contrary to conventional "wisdom", the prosperity of the popular opinion at the expense of the unpopular was never what a republic was about. And if anything, that's what SL should be, given its creators' stated intent as "more than a game". I suggest anyone doubting these claims read James Madison's works on the subject; while I'm not implying he's an infallible authority figure, you might come to understand what I'm talking about in a greater capacity.

My time in w-hat has been pretty fun (when I could actually find time for SL), but it also showed me what it was like to be a part of an unpopular minority group in a society with strong majoritarian tendencies (for whatever reason). In an internet sort of way, it has helped me understand what advocates of civil liberty like JS Mill, Gandhi and ML King really meant, and how important the concept of protecting the minority from a hostile majority really is. I really can't find any common ground with far-right advocates like so many on this forum and in the Herald's editorial staff.

Still waiting on a left-wing equivalent of the Herald to pop up, as I'd say there's a considerable void waiting to be filled in that respect.

First w-hat to quote this post with "what" guess: Masakazu

Well, see, the (remaining) SA part of me says I'm retarded for wanting to post a SERIOUS BUSINESS discussion thread about a game I can't even play right now (firewall, server-based). In other words, probably not going to happen unless I get really bored ok

Well, I'm bored already so I'll just sit and wait. Maybe I'll take you to task for demeaning "special" and "developmentally disabled" people - have you no shame?

Perhaps I'll hound you for not chasing down the clowns and beating them senseless, as I requested earlier in this thread. But perhaps that's wrong, since everyone knows all clowns are "special" people, "touched" if you will, and should be treated with great care and understanding.

This is too confusing  Where do I pay my $10 to get on the mentally challenged, ass-clown forums again?
