There's also a really neat render bug with cubes for doors:

Scale: ? x ? x 0.01 (X and Y can be whatever size you want)
Twist: -360 to 360
Hollow: 95% (though you can vary this too)

I believe that's the one. I use this for a few doors myself - creates a cheap "iris" effect when the renderer gets near it.

One has to wonder if it'll ever get "fixed" though. :o

How is this done now? I can't seem to get Twist past -180 or 180. Thanxies in advance!

I'll have to combine these tips with the "inside-out prim" trick, see where that gets me. IM me some time I'm in-world, I'll show you a single-pixel-wide cylinder.

Is there a way to make a sphere or hemisphere smaller than 0.01^3 ?

Well...
The hemisphere is .01x.01x.005 already...
If you want to get it smaller, stretch it a bit and hollow it completely and then dimple it from the bottom most of the way...
The further you stretch and dimple, the smaller the diameter of the base becomes. Of course, this shape isn't REALLY a hemisphere...It's an ellipsoid segment, but it looks close enough with some fiddling.

Inside-out Prims!

Make it an "inside-out" prim. If you take an 0.01x0.01x0.01 sphere and make it 5% hollow, color the inside, and make the outside 100% transparent (using a script), it will look like a 0.0005x0.0005x0.0005 sphere as near as you can tell. I'm not sure how small a hollow you can get away with in the editor, I think it's limited to 5% increments (I'm not in-world right now, so I can't check). It's possible you can specify smaller hollows with llSetPrimitiveParams()...

(yes, that's really 3 zeroes after the decimal point in 0.0005)

If you are doing this in a way where collisons are going to cause a problem, you may want to make it Phantom...
If it is an attachment, I believe it is already phantom...

Just sayin'

The bounding box for collisions is way bigger than any of the prims we're talking about here, so it doesn't make any difference whether it's really 0.0005 or just looks like it's 0.0005.

Here is a another one.

This will make a VERY VERY tiny.... pyramid

Step 1: Make a Torus and go to the Object Tab and make the size X = 0.1, Y = 0.1, Z = 0.1 and then rotate the Y axis 90 degrees (Example 1).
Step 2: Change the Skew to 0.95(Example 2)
Step 3: Change the Hole Size to X = 0.05 Y = 0.05 (Example 3)
Step 4: Change Advanced Cut Begin and End to B = 0.95 (Example 4)
Step 5: Change Taper to X = 1.00 (Example 5)
Step 6: Change Revolutions to 4.00 (Example 6)
Step 7: Under "Building Block Type" change the type from Torus to Box (Example 7)
Step 8: Lastly change Top Size to X = 0.0 Y = 0.0 (Example 8) ( The Sphere size in the pic is 0.01,0.01,0.01 )

And there you go, a small pyramid, it can go even smaller it you want by changing the size. It will go VERY VERY tiny. (hint: Use Ctrl-0 to zoom in Ctrl-8 to zoom out and Crtl-9 to normal view) Have fun with this one...

Is there any other way to make a tiny sphere? This works almost perfectly except when "connecting" it to another prim, you can see the other prim through the inside-out sphere.

Thanks for the useful information. Now we can get to work on finding ways to make larger prims or arcs.

Making larger arcs.

The best way to make large arcs is to make them out of boxes. If you're building a circle of radius "R", you won't notice the difference between the straight side of a cube side "s" and a segment of a circle if the ratio "s/R" is close enough to 0. Conveniently, when you're traversing an angle theta (the angular size of the block as seen from the center of the arc) that's close enough to 0, you can assume "sin(theta)", "tan(theta)" and "s/R" are about the same...

If you use a script to lay out the segments behind a traveller that follows the arc you want using successive llSetPos/llSetRot calls, you can experiment with arcs as large as a sim.

There are some tips on this thread about making a 19.5 meter wide disc:

PS: for a fun use of ultra-thin prims, the blade on the variable-sword I've put up for sale in Avalon Lagoon is so thin it looks like a single line of pixels no matter how far I can zoom in on it... even at 1280x1024 with antialiasing.

[edit: not bein' commercial: it's a holovendor, you can look without buyin']
