The server where the domain is hosted is currently down, but it's being looked at to get it back up as soon as possible!
For now try: http://zi.furhome.net/downloads/qavimator-win32-0.01.zip _____________________

new bvh conversion tool - bvhacker
12-01-2006 11:05
Hi,
I've just finished making a bvh conversion tool that can be used to convert some bvh files to a format compatible with SL. I've called it bvhacker. bvhacker was written for and tested with the bvh files available from bvhfiles.com, although it will work with many other bvh 'flavours'. you can download it (for free) here: http://www.davedub.co.uk/bvhacker/ I've started a new thread: /52/41/152115/1.html should anyone have any comments or suggestions... enjoy! April 2007 update: Due to increased interest in bvhacker recently, I have just finished adding some upgrades. The new bvhacker (v1.1) has the following enhancements: - Fitting of motion data to SL skeleton is now greatly enhanced. - Arms alignment conversion now works far better. - Ability to add, remove and rename joints. - Various UI enhancements. The download and forum links are unchanged. Feedback greatly appreciated! ; - Dave |

Hi Ana,
bvhacker is not a replacement for Avimator - Avimator is used to create keyframe based animations, whereas bvhacker is used for one of two purposes: 1) To either convert motion captured animation data to be SL compatible, or 2) As a finishing tool for either keyframe generated or motion-captured animations. Many animators use a free editor such as Avimator or Daz3D to generate their animations, then use bvhacker to do 'final tweaks' on their animations befor uploading to SL. Common final tweaks might include: adding the frame 1 t-pose and centering animations, but bvhacker can do much more than that! I wrote a short tutorial detailing how I currently use bvhacker. It is available here: http://www.davedub.co.uk/bvhacker/tutorial_2.html I hope you find it useful! - Dave _______________________________________________________________ ---:: Animazoo animations - The best dances in SL - Smooth AOs - Freebies ::--- . |

"Better" is a relative term. Blender is a tool that is useful for much more than just SL animation, so if you intend to use any work you create outside of SL (or even just want to leave the option open for the future) then using Blender could be a better choice. Otherwise, qavimator is a much easier tool to learn because it doesn't present you with an array of options unrelated to SL. And the difficulty difference is not slight; while qavimator was built from the ground up for working with SL, I can't off the top of my head think of how to use Blender with SL; I'm sure it can be done, it's just not immediately apparent to me.

Jacek Antonelli generously wrote a bvh exporter and an animation rig for SL for Blender.
She has a tutorial at http://tentacolor.com/sl-animation-for-blender-newbs/ The animation rig and exporter are available at http://tentacolor.com/2008/06/02/animation-exporter-update-june-2/ (and also linked to from the tutorial) _____________________

Forgive me if this is already posted, but. Actually reading the thread would have told you if it's already posted, right? ![]() Is there a rig available for Maya? (hopefully a .ma file?) See this thread for more info: /52/15/87870/1.html The original links are broken, but if you read through the thread you'll find alternate download links. P.S.: Attention Forum admins... The whole 'Turning off BBCode instead of actually fixing the issues' thing has made it kind of hard for people to read the forums in some cases. For instance, the early posts in this thread used bullet list functionality that no longer exists, making the forums much less useful to people looking for answers. . _____________________
