Yes this is another pose/animation program but... The problems that have suffered with every other program out there is the ability to work with all the different sized AVs. So I developed a mannequin like figure which is adjusted and fitted to an unlimited number of AVs. The whole system is driven by a two sided HUD (Heads Up Display) system. One which is used to size the mannequin the other side to make the pose/animation frames. The only outside program needed is something like NotePad or TextEdit. This program for SL, I'm afraid is not free but working on a rental system for it which I hope to have up and running before the end of March. The learning curve I would say is not short. But the manual should get you thru the the setup process and how to assemble the BVH files for Uploading. Simple animations can but done with the system but require time, patience and forethought. This is also good to use in conjunction with other program that can import frames from BVH file. So you can line the mannequin up to objects in SL then further animate them later using other software if you wish. This will reduce the dreaded upload, adjust, upload, adjust, upload, adjust, upload procedure needed with other software. U-poser can be found here in SL: The Gadget Shop in Aglia(SL URL) So use this thread to post questions, comments, and suggestions. Demo unit now available! 03/08/07 Saving and Sync function have been disabled on the HUD. After a 100 or more adjustments have been made on the mannequin it will delete itself. You will not be able to make a BVH file but you will at least get a feel for how it works IMAGES:U-Poser MannequinU-Poser HUD

Wow. Looking at those photos, I would bet that you put a tremendous amount of work into this. I will check it out soon if for no other reason. You must have been pretty passionate about it!

With such price tag, you should have a demo in your store people can try out. Also, Katinka Soyinka has been selling an inworld posing system called Mannequin for some time now.

From: Candide LeMay With such price tag, you should have a demo in your store people can try out. Also, Katinka Soyinka has been selling an in world posing system called Mannequin for some time now. I found out about Katinka's "Mannequin" a couple months ago. I first did a small release back in March of 2006. With my system you are not limited to predefined angles for each joint. You are given the freedom to move each joint in any manor you want, in 0.1 degree increments. Also found some joints to be constrained within a certain range with her system. You have the ability to do non-human animation with U-Poser. Also once you have sized and saved an AVs size you no longer need them there to make poses. U-poser is Copy, Mod, No Tran. The only reason for Mod is so you can add, remove, and edit note cards which you save poses and avatar size information to. Or edit the name of HUD or mannenquin to contain other information such as communication channel name of a current project what ever your heart may desires. Also you can have a number of different mannequins out and control them independently. You choose what channel you want them to communicate on as well the channel you would like to use for you speak on for the menu system. You are given a few options to enter data for the joint, either use the arrows under the Numbers, Click and drag on the number to increase or decrease values, or say the values aloud which also supports some basic math operations. I am working on a trial system or more like pay L$200 for a week. Not sure on the price. This is becoming a much large project than I had hoped setting up an off line database to track payments and adding more code to the system which will not slow it down. But all in all the "Mannequin" and U-pose may create poses but I feel U-pose just gives you more freedom to do what ever you want quickly and easily with precision in SL.

Sounds cool, can I get an inworld demo or a video of a demo? something?

Interesting idea. . .

But I don't like the "rental" part at all.

From: Sensual Casanova Sounds cool, can I get an inworld demo or a video of a demo? something? The only thing I could setup quickly is a unit with the saving function disabled. This way you get a feel for how the HUD system works but would not be able actually make a BVH file. It would output sample data but would not be the actual pose you made. The the mannequin would delete itself after so many adjustments have been made. From: DancesWithRobots Soyer But I don't like the "rental" part at all. I was thinking of rental system as a means for a person to try out a fully functional U-pose but without having to drop a load of money. you could pay for a week. then if you decide to not use it for a couple months you would pay nothing then to use it again you would pay a kisco inworld to unlock the HUD. But only a week at a time. If possible make it so you could pay for so many day. like 30 a day or 200 a week. again these prices are not set in stone.

I bought the U-Poser a couple of days ago,if you want to make precise poses between avatars you need this tool.It is a bit of trouble to set up the first time, but nothing that anyone familiar with making poses can't handle.Thank you Gearsawe for making this tool.
On a side note: has anyone heard any more about a in game poser made by LL? There was talk of one over a year ago,but theres been no mention of it since. Also is Jeffrey Ventrella still with LL?

Options for short term rental might be more appealing to me than buying one fully. I don't do a lot of animations, and when I do them, I use Poser. I'm not planning to sell aniimations, I just make them for vanity purposes. The one thing that a product like U-Pose can do for me that I can't do (easily) in Poser is tweak an animation for a specific body shape. So I could see using something like U-Pose once in a while to put final polish on animations.

Agreed on the body shape poses, I really would like to try my hand at animating but I have been reluctant so far because all the anims I have picked up dont fit my av shape or my furniture. I am excited that I could possibly make poses in world that would fit both my av shape and that of my friends plus my furniture. The only thing that concerns me is the rental, it might take me at least a week to get around to learning it enough to actually make anything worth looking at - I would rather just buy it outright and have it around to work on at my leisure. Can wait to check it out this evening! Of course the simple fact that its a gadget I havent played with yet has me intrigued

They have no dead line for it to be done. I was going to put a hold on this project if they said it would be with in a year. But what I could get from them isthis was far from complete. Then again I don't know how their system will work. It will be probably be a big money sink when it happens. I just got sick of waiting. If people like my setup and all the diffent ways to input data maybe they should take this into their design. My favorite was the addition the mouse drag to increase/decrease values. When you are in a healthy sim this function works great.

If you want your prims to move, you can use my AniMaker, an in-world animation recording system for everything (creature or mechanism) created with prims. This is NOT for avatars! - Stukas Zephaniah

This is NOT for avatars! - Stukas Zephaniah U-poser is not a prim animator. It is a poser/animatior creator for Avitars but done in world. do not need to use other programes such as "Poser" or "Qavimator". It was made as a solution to creat nearly perfect poses to a specifc avatar size. Just want to make this clear.

You where getting the message... Warning: Ran out of frame data Well this is just weird it looks like Poser needs an extra line return after all the animation data. 8-/. I also chose "Along X axis" for arm alignment. only took 3 hours of farting around. ARG! a stupid line return. SL could careless.

I am so loving U-Poser, it is so easy to use and makes fitting the avatar to furniture and such, much easier... This is simply amazing, I can't begin to imagine the time you spent on it, great product!

thx and sorry for noob question It out puts a line of data which you then paste into a blank format BVH file. Then upload it into second life. Unfortunately you still have to pay the 10L$ upload fee. But you will be doing this far less often. I use simple old notepad in Windows or TextEdit on the Mac. The Instructions are in a notecard manual that come with it.

great program you got there!!!
but its not working when I bring a pose to poser 7... at 1st it gave me that Warning: Ran out of frame data. message then I went into the BVH file at the bottom and just hit enter to add a blank line.. I then imported it back to poser and this time I didn't get the warning but my guy was half way down the screen in the pose that I made.. I brought him up and did alittle animation and exported it.. then tryed to upload it to SL but on preview screen I don't see the preview char. and only get... Fail to initialize motion. I really want to use poser to do my animations and I love u-poser so what am I doing wrong?
Thx

Thx I don't know a whole lot about Poser. But it sounds like the initial offset might be messing up the import into SL. The first frame from what I understand needs to the zero reference frame if there is more than one frame. or else SL freaks out. If it is just one frame of data SL completely ignore the Valuse for the offset position and the root rotation. Might be more of a Poser question.

ok I think I got my problem fixed.. this is what I did and I hope I explain it good.. (I have a hard time explaining stuff )
After I made the pose using u-poser i did all the steps to save it as a .bvh file... One thing I do after I copy the code to the .bvh file is I hit enter to make a blank space after the code. I open up poser and put the keyframe to 2, then I import the .bvh file and set it to, Don't scale figures and below that, Along X-axis then I click ok.. this will open the file to keyframe 2... after that I do my normal animation and export it and blah blah blah.. it works just fine..
again I hope I explained that good enough cause the blah blah blah part might throw some people off
