It's funny, cuz before I opened the thread, I was tinking of last night, an playing virtual violins with my inworld sister and brother for our inworld parents, an how it was one of those moments where SL makes me feel really, really good.

An the violins are made by... Robbie Dingo. Kinda brought it all 'round.

The machinima is nice, but for me, it's those special times with people I care about dat make me feel good no matter how many glitches and troubles.

Wow... absolutely stunning. Robbie's a genius... I just bought one of his hyper-flutes, and his WhisperBox installation is something that must be seen.

An ad farm is those UGLY areas on the mainland with obnoxious, nausa inducing, spinning advertiments for worthless venues or sevices that rise high in the sky. Usually owed by people thinking (or not thinking) they are going to get rich selling ads or extorting people to by overpiced plots to remove them.

I know, its their land and they can do as they like.

It's basically the opposite of what Robbie created.

Imagine a world of limitless possibilities. Artists like Robbie create things of beauty and serve us all. Those into greed create eyesores like the cut up land in Nove and serve only themselves. Thank goodness for people like Robbie.

Uhh... if the "world of limitless possibilities" precludes people from doing what they wish with their own parcels based on one individual's definition of "greed" or "eyesores" then it's the "world of limited possibilities."

True to a point, but that doesn't mean that we can't recognize ugliness and greed for what it is and praise those who create beauty.

And it's not only one individual's definition of "greed" and "eyesores" that calls ad farms a Bad Thing™, is it? It may not be universal, but it is nowhere near unique.

Those rotating billboard things suck. They make the place look like crap. Nobody wants to live next to one. I dont see these as being 'subjectively' eyesores, they ARE eyesores. You show me one person who thinks these things are wonderful to look at, are a joy to experience, and wouldnt mind having them surround their house, and I'll show you somebody who is full of shit. You give away tiny freedoms for the sake of the common good, just be careful how much your willing to give away. I would give away my freedom to carve my lot into 16meter chunks to keep these miserable ad farms from proliferating.

Your freedom is your's to give away. In the process, you don't get to give away the freedoms of those around you.

Ad farms don't violate the Terms of Service (nor the Community Standards). The parcelholder is exercising their right to do whatever they wish with their own land (as long as it doesn't violate the Terms of Service or Community Standards).

I can't interfere with their right to do what they wish with their parcel. They can't interfere with my right to do what I wish with my parcel.

Awesome, I'll contact you next time I want to sell a lot of crap land surrounded by these gorgeous ads. And the cool thing with you, since you don't find anything wrong with them, You won't need to waste money buying tree's and walls to block the view.

The terms of service be damned. Thats what ammendments are for. a 'BEAUTIFY SECONDLIFE AND TORCH THE AD FARMS' ammendment. If there was a vote tomorrow asking whether we should retain the abilility to create a 16 meter billboard/extortion device, or disallow such practices, I doubt the ad farms would prevail in the name of PERSONAL LIBERTIES. Wave your Nathan Hale flag over somebodies elses property thats been ruined by this blight. See how much they agree with getting screwed over with a 30 foot high rotating cube sign stuck in the corner of the yard just because some opportunist has the abilitity to do so.

It's your land. No one else is under any obligation to buy it.

It has nothing to do with whether or not I, or someone else, either approves or disapproves of ad farms. They don't violate the Terms of Service or the Community Standards.

Nothing prevents a person, or persons, from attempting to ammend the Terms of Service, Community Standards, the Forum Guidelines, or the client software and servers itself. It becomes unlikely if the change excludes a category of residents who have not violated the Terms of Service, Community Standards, etc. However, gnashing one's teeth and pulling one's hair over what other's do with their own land seems unlikely to affect the change you desire.

We do not get to cry "Personal Liberties" while we trod on the personal liberties of those around us.

Obvious and overused, but nevertheless true. And when I behold beauty, I prefer to evangelize it. And when I behold the ugliness of ad farms, I make a personal vow to not ever give the advertisers my business. Never have I suggested that people should not be able to create such ugliness
