If SL decided to remove the forums, all of it... would you miss these forums?

If so, why, what part would you miss the most?

To answer my own questions... probably not

I would miss helping people, but over all, I guess I would not really miss them

The Content Creation forums are a wealth of information. I would miss those.

Yes, I would miss them. Mostly the people, but also all the SL related stuff I learn everyday.

I will probably regret asking this I am sure....but what the hell... You seem awfully unhappy with these forums. Why do you continue to post here?

Yes. I learn a lot even now from the content creation forums, and I love helping people, there and in RA.

only unhappy with the stupid slowness and errors of late

the lack of moderation, among other stuff, has got me to wondering... will LL continue to support the forums (especially since announcing a new blog coming soon)

I post here because I find it stimulating (when I can actually get a post to go through and read new posts)

What do you mean by "Continue" to support? They have to start doing something before they can continue to do it.

To answer the question:Yes I would. I enjoy the banter that goes on here. There is an interesting mixture of personalites here. I'm only inworld an hour or two a week, usually at off peak times, so I don't see too many of the people here "in the pixel".

Its sad to say I wouldnt miss it. Its kinda addictive to type ideas down but they get so hammered these days I wonder if its even worth it. Maybe I am changing and sl is not. I change as my real world changes but there isnt real community here - not really. And no feeding of teh soul. I come here to seek "approval" of some sort, I guess, as I "entertain" myself inworld and look at how we have used a incredible machine to create a strange place to inhabit.
Forums were a place for coming up for air and saying "wow, this place is brill". An then asking a question like "Is it flat or round?" as I once did and got some irritated answers. The issue could be that from perpective of teh forum, sl is a very different place than what it is when we are there.
Reading forums now makes me feel so old wih the attitudes I see.

I would be surprised if they disappeared though. Any game I have ever played has had a forums.

I really would miss them a lot. There are many people here that I banter with that I never see inworld and I would miss that exchange. I seldom get to come here during the work day, but I try to catch up a bit each evening and spend lots of time here on the weekends if I can. I always have the forums up on my second monitor whenever I am inworld and will sometimes use lag time to check on things here.

Many of my inworld friends, I first met here. I do not approach people very well, but it is much easier to chat with folks inworld when we already know each other from these forums. A large part of my SL will be missing if they completely do away with the forums.

OMG - I might have to spend more time across the street learning how to diplomatically deal with the Libs better.

Glad to see from the posts above that I am not the only one experiencing strange slowness in the forums today... but anyway...

I would definitely miss them. Every day I learn something new, laugh about something, smile, find new products, etc... just from reading the forums.

There is absolutely a wealth of information to be found here, that Linden Labs sadly doesn't provide. At least they provide us this portal to be a community and help each other. And make each other laugh, etc.

It is very slow to post but why cant it be a "diffrent" forum? I know it may be inconvenient because of teh real world situation for many who post here but why cant the group who are close to each other use teh cartel and the IM there? Sometimes when I am in world it clicks on and it seems peopel are much friendlier in world. This place brings out teh worse.

I knw that for some people this is a life-line of communication in a cubicle world. Or in a world in which physical challenges must be faced alone. For many this is a welcome mat and a invitation to have a coffee. For soem it is teh ONLY way they will get to talk to people tonight.

For others its a sharing of technizizz. I come on to gather my thoughts before I plunge back into the frenzied reality.

I remember a while back some Linden suggesting that they would prefer people to be in-world rather than overly use teh forum to chat. Its going to happen. Forums wil change but Lindens will make it appropriate for teh users to chat also. I am sure of that.

Why does it bother you so much if people prefer to chat here? Some can't be inworld at the same time for one reason, but regardless, what is the big deal? If LL decides to pull the plug , fine. Then you will have your wish fufilled. Until then, it is what it is.

The forums serve several valuable purposes.

First and formost this one is to answer questions about the nuts and bolts of Second Life. I still have questions. The platform is so complex even folks that have been around a while can never know all the ins and outs.

Second, there is no easy way to chat in complete sentences in world, so this offers a way to converse a little more intelligently -- though sometimes it doesn't appear that way.

Third, it offers better word of mouth ideas about where to go and what to do than the inefficient and easily gamed search engines. I'm not bashing LL here - any word of mouth may be more reliable than any impersonal search engine to me. [Edit: I guess "word of mouth" isn't exactly the right phrase, but you know what I mean.]

I'm sure there are other subtle social aspects going on I can't quite put a name to as well.

Anyway. yes of course I would miss them.

I don't agree with that at all. I definitely feel to be part of a community here. I like some people here, I dislike some people here, and there are many who I recognise when they post but I haven't learned anything about them. It certainly feels like a community to me.

And for the record, yes I'd miss this forum if it disappeared - a lot! Not only for that community thing, but also for the very useful information that I can get when needed, and that I come across when I'm not even looking for any.

Yes, I would miss them. Forums provide a persistent form of writing, which helps sustain the history of our culture. In-world chat doesn't fill the same niche, and no in-world system of notecards or whatever could currently achieve the level of widespread access that a forum gives us. The areas where persistent content is important, like the content creation areas, are most important, but I even miss the old free-for-all general topics area.

No but the tone and sentiments are often interpreted that way. Damien, many think I am a total bitch but truly I think of me as a pleasant punk - its so easy to misread all of us. I am sure many I think of as unplesant are really teh gentlest of souls. I say that with genuine feeling. Honest.

Wow - many think I am sweet and innocent.... well okay, maybe not innocent, but definitely sweet. Whereas I know that I really am a bitch.
