A few places have started turning off voice.

There is hope.

I don't get out much, but I've noticed there's a club in Furnation Fusion that I go to occasionally has turned it off, and Seal Cove doesn't have voice on any of the public areas. I guess it keeps the stupid human players from breaking in on the foxes and ferrets and things.

I thought about quitting because SL is becoming the same cesspit humanity is , with all it's little bickering and "i'l sue, you for that you bastard!" .

We could have created a virtual world that would be different and represent the ideal world, we just dragged it down to the same level of filth the real world is in.

I'm here for free, although I admittedly rarely log in. So I'm not really sure I'm "here" enough to make a squat bit of difference.

I suppose I could try for a grand "I hate you all" exit, but I'm sure the response would be "Um, who are you?"

If I had more time and money, maybe I'd go to Premium, but without either, there's no real point as far as I can tell.

I could toil all day and crank out things that would pay me pennies for the actual effort involved. That would likely be copied anyways, if I even managed to draw enough attention to myself to sell anything for those aforementioned pennies.

Voice. I've just about made up my mind to leave over it. I'm sick and tired of the expectation that is growing on the grid that people voice. My long time socializing places have changed so much that a non-voicer can barely participate. Since voice is obviously here to stay, I'm on my way out. I don't enjoy SL anymore.

I have it disabled in my club. I hate voice with an unbridled passion, too.

I've just returned from a 4 month break enforced by a load of RL stuff and no "proper" internet connection. After the initial "oh my god, what am I going to do", to be honest, I didn't really miss it. SL had become very much all work and no play, which was making Joss a very dull girl indeed.

So now all the RL stuff is sorted, and I have my computer back and a real internet connection, so I logged back on. Everything was exactly where I had left it, which I knew it would be, but was still kind of surprised about. That said, I wandered about, and everywhere I went was full of people WOOTING, talking absolute nonsense or trying to get laid. It's different physicaly not being able to log in, as opposed to just trying not to, but I am now wondering what I as worried about in the first place.

So, now I find myself staring at the screen, wondering what to do with myself. Maybe it is time to give it all up and go and try something else. Still, I'm going to wander a bit more, wear some of the clothes I never got round to wearing, maybe do a bit of shopping. Hopefully that will make me feel a little more encouraged.

In "certain" sims it is but not in all of SL.

Maybe change social circles instead? Get an alt to do that if you have to. It would be a shame to quit SL entirely over this one thing.

When I joined SL, I was unhappy and missing somethings in my RL.
But soon, I realized SL was not the answer, working out the issues to make my RL better, was. And I have done that.

Thats just my take, for my own life, not inferring that this is applicable, to anyone else.
Everyone has there own reasons, and are looking for different things.
No judgement made here, just my 2 cents!

I have not logged on SL, in months and months, maybe even a year.
But I can't seem to delete my account, and let OneBeautiful Jewell go!
There are some exciting aspects, to SL!
That I did enjoy, very much.

Nothing wrong in that at all, OneBeautiful, and I think you phrased things tactfully.

Not only are people in SL for all types of reasons but people are at all types of places in their lives as well. What makes sense this year may not, the next.

After the initial shininess of SL wore off and I probably did what a lot of people do (go premium, buy land, buy more land, buy MORE land...) I started taking long breaks from SL. I'm back after about six months or so now.

It's not about land, or homes, or clothes, or the interface, or the building tools. It's about the *people*, and if the great friends you made six months ago are long gone, the world just isn't as wonderful. We rediscover what we found out after the first couple months as newbies -- Second Life is boring, and only the people make it worthwhile.

I'm guessing one of these days I'll decide to log back in after another break and find out nothing happens because SL and Linden Labs itself is gone. Won't shed any tears except maybe for all the ridiculous amounts of cash I spent on clothes and shoes. Especially shoes.

I'd really love to know about any places, especially social places, with voice turned off. I truly am ready to quit over it.

I do not *know* if these places have voice turned off, but I have never noticed it being used at any of them, and HAVE found real non-bot people talking text chat at all of them:

Club Melodi is a PG dance club with events from 11am-5pm SL. Lots of text chat, on all kinds of topics. (I host there, in the interest of full disclosure.)

Lounge of Dreams is a male revue on Zindra, open 6-10pm. I've found the folks there friendly and welcoming to all genders and species, though of course you will have to be account verified to go there.

Demented Souls is a dance club/hangout with a few regular events (I am SO there Saturdays at 2 for MadBonds, and when I can, I hit up the costume event Sunday at 1. They have trivia events Tuesdays and Thursdays, too, but I can't ever seem to get there at the right times.)

Madhu's Cafe serves up world music. Weekly scheduled event is Monday from 6-9pm-ish, and there are occasional weekend morning events.

The Bubblegum Music Factory is a PG club where I have found some text conversation, though not as much as at the other locations.

I'm not in-world to find the name of the club where Sredni Eel DJs, but based on threads here I am almost positive you will not find voice turned on there. The night I went, I was overtired and only stayed a little while, but everyone was very friendly and I'd definitely go back if I weren't (trying to) keep earlier hours.

Hm... that should serve as a starting point, at least.

because it's getting quite boring in SL, with all the restrictions in place, and the ones to come soon. (also, it's quite annoying to realize, that everything in SL, is infact exactly the same as you saw somewhere else a few hours ago, in the sense of limitations, texture usage, damn poseballs you're seeing everywhere, the same stupid "games", the same lag, the same bugs, the same type of event, only in a different theme, but underneath the theme, it's the same stuff... why would it interest me, if i've experienced it millions of times already, and there is NO innovation at all, wherever i am in SL.. it's sooo shallow.. the hype is over, i'm a veteran now, soon it's time to say goodbye to kindergarten SL, and move on to a more innovative world.)

Most dance clubs seem to have voice turned off.

Blackhearts (PG), Carnage (Mature), I'm pretty sure do. 7E, not sure. But last time I went there were so many gestures it drove me up a wall.

I don't blame you about voice-only sims or voice-pressured sims. I don't mind using it sometimes but I want it to be my choice. If I wanted to talk I'd use the phone...It feels strange, frankly, to sit in a room and talk to the wall this way. Lol

Typing in a room doesn't feel nearly as odd. People have done that for nearly a century.

I also like to eat and drink while doing the 'fun computer' portion of the day. So, no one needs to hear that either.

Maybe yourself and/or Argent could do a thread about 'no voice' places.

Is the Cartel Hangout 'no voice?'

(I am pretty sure most roleplay sims are no voice, too, if that interests you at all.)

I have almost left SL on 2 occasions or lost interest since joining in 2006, but eventually returned.

I recently became a land owner and realize that this is actually very important to maintaining interest in SL. Without a home, you have nowhere to go really, just from one place to the next, looking for something interesting, sometimes finding it and sometimes not.

Owning some land is really like having a 3D website, you can make it into whatever you want, depending on which sim you decide to live in. You can create your own environment.

Having my own home, means I can freely build and rez objects in relative privacy. Also, importantly, I have access to radio channels and movies that I do not have access to in RL, and somehow it seems more exciting acessing this in SL, even if I could access it in RL.

If you get bored with your home, you can always recreate it. However, just as in RL, you need money. Persons with land and cash are better able to have a fulfilling SL life, just as in RL. Those are the hard facts.

I took a break once for about 6 months and I'm getting ready to take another break. Lost my partner after a year and a half and I have no friends. Think it's time for a break, lol :(

Also, sorry to say this, SL doesn't have to be about people, friendships or relationships, although these can be nice at times. It can be just about the technology and your gadgets.

I've created a nice industrial home for myself in my apocalyptic environment, complete with electronic monitoring devices, and automatic turret gun on the roof, a computer/video/tv player with lots of stuff I don't have in RL (although having it here means I now have it in RL), a slide projector with slide trays in which I can upload RL pictures and create slide shows with different themes, both RL and SL. I can go wandering about in the sim where I live and find lots of interesting stuff to see with an ever present element of danger. In front of my house is the wide open desert on which I can go racing on my bikes and jeeps.

How could I leave this. lol

*Hugs* Sounds very similar to my situation - Was partnered for 2 years and we did everything together. I have a few good friends who are wonderful but I still have that "empty" feeling without my partner after seeing him every day for approximately 6 hours for 2 years.

My business is part of The Steam hunt that begins next week. I committed to that, so will wait until it's over (the end of September) and likely take a break after that.
