From: Briana Dawson Have you thought about quitting SL? Why? What caused you to have such thoughts? What would be your reason? Or what would cause you to quit? Yes. But haven't completely deserted SL yet. I still hold my premium account however I have found a place that is much more in tune with what I want from a virtual world like SL. I spend at least four times as much time there as here.

Inquiring minds want to know!

You know I don't why 1.5 - 2 years is some kind of magic number for partners disappearing, etc. It is quite a long time for an online relationship. Heck yea that is a long time. I look forward to my 2nd anniversary with Nina. If she just disappeared i would be so devastated.

I quit because I had gone to one too many clubs filled with bots and chat-free dancers. I quit because I hate shopping. I quit because the friendliness factor has dropped considerably since I joined. Say, hello to someone and watch them walk away without a word. I quit because the place is empty and the ghost town feeling is just too creepy anymore.
I quit because, although there are many gorgeous regions and fascinating builds, and all kinds of cool "things" built by other folks, this Second Life is a pointless exercise, IMHO.
I wonder if LL ever asks a single soul why they quit SL. There are sooo many of them. And now I see rather famous SLers quitting and that makes me very sad. People who had committed much time and money here, are walking away. That should make LL very nervous.
I came back recently, but only to help some new SLers learn how to build. I do like the Tinkertoy/Lego aspect of SL, and might return from time to time to make a house or high-rise.

If anything was to push me to leave SL it would be how it looks. I'm half elf, half fairy with a touch of dragon's blood on my mother's side So I need to see beauty and my pet frustration and annoyance is with photographic Real World plants. They just don't belong here in Secondlife. Look at WOW for example - beautiful digital artwork landscapes and forests, other-worldly. Sure WOW does look a bit cartoony and not grown up but that's just one particular style. Look at Lineage 2 - lovely artwork plants and trees, forests and landscapes. Nothing breaks the illusion of your RP So much of SL is overwhelmed with quite low quality photo plants. I'm afraid to leave the forest. To my fairy eyes, photo plants look like zombie versions of themselves - plants of the living dead. They just don't look right in this virtual world, they just look stiff and life-less So now I try to avoid RPing in sims that have mostly RL photo plants as they completely destroy the illusion of the game. Fairy eyes are delicate.

Maybe you could try making some plants that look more like the way your vision of SL should look, and if enough people buy into them you'll get a double win!

I think I got lost in SL last year.. a job that was was going under turned into a few months of doing nothing but SL all day. Then work and life changed, and SL was getting overwhelming and distracting in some ways, that I had to cut it for a while. Now almost a year later I want to go back just to fly around and explore some more. But I debate logging in and having to explain to some old friends, or just dissappear and create a new account.

Been here 2,5 years. Yes drama, yes LL run riot, yes cheating partners, yes idiots attacking my clubs.... Will it make me go away? I don't think so. I will only leave if I run out of ideas....SL is Me against Me...the ultimate battle.

I prefer to support the handful of creators who do make plants and trees without the use of photos. And I know my many talents are elsewhere

Yes, and it's because LL has its head up its butt, institutes asinine policies, and can't figure out how to make a decent Forum even though all it has to do is pay vBulletin $60 for an upgrade. LL insists on reinventing the wheel around every turn, and unfortunately LL's wheels are still plywood blocks that don't roll real well. How any company can survive by sticking its head in the sand for so long is a very sad thing to me. Makes me feel very "meh" about SL in general.

I've quit before, a couple months after I joined, I think. Maybe 3 or 4 months? Partly it was the technology, the machine I was using at the time just couldn't cut it. All I EVER saw was grey walls. And it was partly due to the fact that, despite the fact that I could hardly ever see anything, I was spending hours and hours in SL; I was running my own business, and business was slow, so I had a lot of time to burn. I hardly even had any friends! I don't know what the hell I was doing with all my time, wandering mostly, I think. I used to dream about flying all the time.
I bought a new machine last year, and logging back in was one of the first things I did. I imagine I'll stick around--I'm fairly casual about it, log in a couple times a week--until LL outpaces my technology. I have a big speedy spendy machine at work so I don't feel the need to have the newest and biggest and brightest at home.

I quit SL the first time I signed up after spending maybe a month in world but I had always intended on coming back. I signed back up about two years ago and I have never thought of quitting. I will take really long vacations from sl when rl gets uber busy. Tis be why I'm always out of the loop these days. I don't think I will ever quit, but breaks are pretty nice and then when you come back it all seems brand new. New peoples have joined your groups, new events, new places to explore.

From: Meade Paravane They don't fix the things I want fixed. They say "tell us what you think" then ignore us. They have no interest in interacting with residents. They throw out the stuff they don't like without having a replacement or they throw out the old when the replacement sucks. The list goes on and on and on. They continue to fumble thier monopoly in this space rather than seeing what made it great and working to preserve that. Does this things not every online company makes? The best thing like in other online games or 3d enviroment is, don't get to involved and don't spend tomuch money, becouse you allways depend on a thirth party, then when something gets changed you are not to upset or to disappointed.

Yes, within the first few days of joining mostly due to too much emotion and mind working overtime as a result in the RL. I think I am getting over that now, getting some good friends and am really starting to enjoy so will be staying for a good while

I did a six month sabbatical from SL and didn't really miss it (other than my online friends)
I recently came back and reopened my store again. I'm just not feeling the passion that I use to have and expect I'll take another sabbatical very soon.

Not thinking of quitting at the moment - am in a building phase instead - hoping to see if I can make/create something nice in world. I'm doing my best so far, but I'm the type that doesn't like to rush things so, I am also in the learning phase. I have ideas and need a bit more info how/if I can try to make some of it happen. I do have my moments of "it's all been done already, woe is me, I should just pack it in" but the world of SL is still so compelling to me, that it's really just momentary, and the next time I log in it's forgotten.

From: Briana Dawson Have you thought about quitting SL? Why? What caused you to have such thoughts? What would be your reason? Or what would cause you to quit? Last year I was on the verge of doing so, after hearing that someone I'd befriended in SL had suicided. It brought a crushing weight to what had previously be an area of play for me. However, I did stay, but access SL much less frequently now, especially while I'm doing a Masters in Fine Arts in RL.

When I end up getting dissed for something I havent done or intended to do.
And then you realize it's autumn and the wind and the waves are lovely in real. And the swans are flying south. Then it's time to go.

If you happen to be still reading Jig,
It is hardly something you didn't do, you got called out quite rightly for what you did post. People have told you again and again how and why your posts rub them up the wrong way and yet you persist in doing exactly that, deliberately. Before you try to say it isn't intentional, you have stated several times that your goals are to stir people up, well so you have and so you do. Your posting style is so close to being trollish that few can tell any difference. Are you really that shocked more and more of people come out and tell you why they dislike your posts? There is a good reason most forums have a no troll policy.
I wish you well out there in RL, though if it were me I would just take a sabbatical from the forums, not SL. After all shouldn't you be considering how your SL partner will feel with you gone like this?. Just as some of us knew your "leaving post" was inevitable after the dancing thread, so will be your return.
Until then, adieu Jig.

Until then, adieu Jig. Well it IS goodbye to forums actually because discretion may well be the better part of valour (as my grandmother might say) My land in sl has been griefed horribly now for a week and was worse last night. ARs dont help - a new griefer appears each day. I dont want to shut out objects coz I encourage a group of artists to use my land for free. I think its safest for all if I stay faraway from forums and even stay in sl for short time periods to avoid attention. This is NOT because I consider any of you teh griefers BUT I think Hal and I may be targetted for reasons I dont wish to discuss here. Any griefer following me into this forum is bound to cause problems so I'll bow out once and for all (or for a month or so at least until this all dies down) I guess you can enjoy a quiet forum from now on but be assured that one day I may be back to poke a few people in the eye and stamp on a few large toes. I do like to stir it up - its quite true. I forget that for many the sl world is just a peaceful escape from humdrummity and I seek controversy every where I go in real or sl. I am actually VERY polite in sl forums for an iconoclast and reduce my real personality's insolence and cheek. My partner in sl is well aware of all this and since we have been together for 3 years he is used to my ways. It's a pity you are not. Jigalicious.

Quoting this because sometimes you do deny stirring it up on purpose and/or claim to not know why people are riled. Of course you know. About the foreign prims on your land, start a group, deed land to group, put artists in the group, set their objects and yours to the group, then set auto return to 2. Bye bye foreign prims. But you know that. See you back here soon. ;P

Voice. I've just about made up my mind to leave over it. I'm sick and tired of the expectation that is growing on the grid that people voice. My long time socializing places have changed so much that a non-voicer can barely participate. Since voice is obviously here to stay, I'm on my way out. I don't enjoy SL anymore.
