Another broken heart My partner of 1.5 yrs recently became angry with me and deleted our entire SL home. Which I had built from scratch lovingly as a gift to him. He says he is sorry but when I ask him to rebuild he demands : "rez the pieces". I can't find the pieces. So really I don't feel like "picking up the pieces" anymore, so to speak. It's not just the loss of the relationship, it's the fact that where my home was is now a great empty bleak piece of land. All that work for nothing.

Private estate owners aren't suppppoooosed to rollback a region for something like this... but I've heard of small acts of compassion that have managed to get through... not that I would know *anything* about that, of course. Rolling back a region for something like this Isn't Allowed. It has to be some deeply, ah, Technical Reason and not something like this... *cough*... your land baron will likely be able to describe what flaw Certainly Must Have Happened for such a disaster to occur, if they remain Blissfully Unaware of Any and All Drama that may have befallen the two of you. It WAS a technical fault, Wasn't It? Hope that helps, and good luck. Edit: and it has to be done *fast* before the neighbours go and change all their stuff around, for once that happens that's pretty much it...

From: Bhakta Thor Because I ask myself "what am I doing here"? And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself-well...how did I get here? Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down Letting the days go by/water flowing underground Into the blue again/after the moneys gone Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground. And you may ask yourself How do I work this? And you may ask yourself Where is that large automobile? And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful house! And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful wife! Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down Letting the days go by/water flowing underground Into the blue again/after the moneys gone Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground. Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was... Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was... Same as it ever was...same as it ever was... I found myself spending most of my time away from there, and it still felt like and empty hole when I visited. My suggestion is to move and start fresh. Do something in a completely different style. Maybe something you would love but wasn't his thing. If it was a beachy cottage go ultra modern. If it was modern go roman villa. Whatever is different or sounds fun, do that. If you can't move because your on mainland and it is an awful time to sell, then rework the land in a different way. Get as new a feel as you can. Just take time to find a new sense of fun.

If I ever completely abandon SL it will likely be because of LL. The Open Space mess was enough for me to withdraw for awhile and terminate paying the membership fee which I'd done since my rezz date 2 years prior. It didn't affect me personally, but it all was so ugly and distressing to many people I knew, it was all I could do in protest. LL obviously doesn't really listen to it's residents, if they ever did. The push for more corporate involvement, Zindra, etc. These are the kind of things may ultimately drive me away. I've had some personal drama too. I don't think you can be in SL for any length of time and avoid it. But none of it would be able to make me leave altogether; I just take breaks. Like I have to from the forums from time to time.

Thank you so much, Argent, or whoever sent that to me I received notification of it via email and can't wait to do some "product testing" next time I'm in world.

From: Stormy Weeks Another broken heart My partner of 1.5 yrs recently became angry with me and deleted our entire SL home. Which I had built from scratch lovingly as a gift to him. OUCH!!! *Mega-Hugs* You know I don't why 1.5 - 2 years is some kind of magic number for partners disappearing, etc. It is quite a long time for an online relationship. On IRC we used to have a saying that 1 month on IRC = 1 year in RL. Maybe it's the equivalent of the 7-year itch or something. Some people partner, break up in a month or two, repartner, rinse, repeat. And if that works for them, I'm not going to nay say it. But as you well know...putting one's heart, emotions into someone for 1-2 years or so really knocks a punch to the gut and heart when the other person leaves. I am so very sorry...if you ever want to chat, just IM here or in world. (And next time you see him, I personally would drop an anvil on his head or worse...destroying the house you built is just....well don't even get me going!!!)

a few times I have come close to quitting, sometimes due to the actions of so called sl friends, bitching, whining, backstabbing etc etc, get enough of that crap in the real world. I have no time for dramatics on sl. Have sold land and lost out financially a few times due to unpleasant sl neighbours. But by far the one biggie that has made me want to throw in the towel is sexual harrassment from strangers. harrassment followed up by aggression and nastiness. yes, I use the mute function, and yes I make abuse reports. but when this continues to happen to me, I do start to wonder if its worth the hassle. Its a particular problem at clubs. I have recently gotten into a rp combat sim and had no issues of that sort so far whilst there, so I hope I have finally found my sanctuary....

From: Briana Dawson Have you thought about quitting SL? Why? What caused you to have such thoughts? What would be your reason? Or what would cause you to quit? Yes. I'm getting bored to be honest, and also I have issues with what it takes to run SL. Rez times, lag issues....all are frustrating, especially in an environment where I am actually trying to do something constructive. Swimming in a sea of grey, or seeing something I would love to do, if only I....could....walk..... I tend to move around between MMO's too, it isn't just lag (but the lag is a big part in making me really prefer to do something else), I tend to get bored after a while, and SL is starting to bore me a little. I'm starting to see the signs of me moving on I'm pretty much already beginning to work out a consolidation plan. Not sure what to do yet with my store/stuff but I'm not going anywhere in a hurry. I've already started to pare down on empty/unneeded parcels.

an online only world. sure I'm in and i have fun. but the lag, the american greed thang, the ludicrous economy, the bots, the wonky avatar texture wr..... (ooops, i'll give LL a chance to reply to that one) the land prices? I mean come on! its just greed greed greed greed. I will only participate to a certain extent because of the LL bias economy. Age verififcation? Huh? didn't i give that info already? No, enough is enough. When do all these things combined become offensive? *as soon as i get a *no entry into an adult area thats when. The game is NOT gaining in popularity. I am here because of the tech challenge but of course rl terminology has been hijacked and distorted to confuse those who expect certain protocols o.0 SL doesn't seem to have ultra code jockeys in here. Why is that? What went wrong? Why aren't they here? LL should have official *outrageous examples of what can be achieved, to give everyone something to aspire to. my 2cents worth.

From: Maryanne Solo the american greed thang...I will only participate to a certain extent because of the LL bias economy. Maryanne, could you expand a bit on what you mean here? What do you mean by "American greed thing" and "LL bias economy"? If you mean LL is bias to US residents, I'm sure that may be true; considering LL is anchored and began in the United States. I'm sure there would be some of that if LL were in any other country. But I'm not really sure what you mean, so could you explain and give some examples? And what is the "American greed thing?"

I finally found my house yesterday and it was all linked etc. I never thought I would ever consider leaving SL but sometimes things are just rough. In RL I am forced to be away for a little while so it will be good for me to have a break. Perhaps I will feel refreshed afterwards. Ironically I was never here for the relationships, I just love building, so maybe I will have my building mojo back when I return.

I run off a laptop with a wonky electrical connection. If it goes it'll probably be an age before I get around to replacing it for 2l. I'm not a gamer.

I've never really thought about quitting. At times I simply just stop playing SL for a week or two but I never considered uninstalling the client. It's not like someone is going to suddenly outlevel you and you can't play with them anymore. It's a great casual playing non-game type of world.

I've thought about hanging up SL several times, though I do still love it very much. At times I find it difficult to be the kind of worry-free socialite that I'd like to be, mostly because I'm a bit of an introvert and a little shy. That keeps me from letting my true self show through early on, which means I get taken wrong and don't make very many friends. It's getting easier for me as time goes on, but I just hope the loneliness doesn't get me before I get to where I want to be with all that.

often...
mostly because LL screws up so badly lately.
bad server, bad viewer, bad customer service, but most importantly: no progress at all!
last progress where sculpties and i wasnt too impressed by that change.
also: the economy seems pretty dead to me, a few people are good in business because they make good fashion but everything else is out there with full permissions (fashion too more and more)
only way to stop that "downfall" in my opinion is to add 1. a new avatar mesh, so people need new textures. 2. add new features like better physics or better scripting so people can create better apps 3. better gfx! incl larger sims and REAL mesh import, a bones system for prims, better animation system for avatars, bump, normal, and specular maps, shadows... (i could go on for a while) 3. protect the new creations from being ripped so easy 4. a new system for sim border crossing, maybe send the data over BEFORE people actually cross
but LL doesnt care about the users they have. they want mc donalds, disney and somehow think people want to use sl as a learning plattform, ignoring that (in my guess) more than 80 % want completely different things. (i know i want different things, and all my sl friends too)
i see sl as a low end play ground that will go on for a few years, but as soon as someone else puts out something like this, that doesnt look like it´s from 2003 and is actually working, sl will vanish.
and i hope this new plattform will not be from LL
edit to add an example:
i can´t tp anywhere today, i am locked into my skybox, can´t even tp to the ground (yeah i can get there by sitting on a box and editing it). after each try i have to wait 15 - 20 sec because sl tells me tps are blocked now and i need to try again later or relog. and after a few trys i get logged out and my login is blocked for 5 minutes... flying to other sims and trying to tp doesnt change anything, no answer to my support ticket... trying to safe a script gives me an error message...
nothing to do...
solution: forget sl for today

When I'm out in public people get the impression that I'm an extrovert because I participate openly in social situations (classes, dancing, etc.) However, after a bit of that, I need to retreat to "recharge my batteries." I prefer a few good friends to a lot of acquaintances. I am quite comfortable exploring SL alone and love to sit at home either building or re-re-re-organizing my inventory. My preferred method of socializing is one-on-one: conversations, exploring, etc. I wrote all the above, Dana, to say that if you ever wish to chat or explore, etc. in world and don't feel comfortable going into a big social environment, especially on your own, please feel free to IM me anytime.
