We all know what this game is about and the things that go on inside by consenting adults. Plus everyone in here is or should be an adult therefore you would think they would like like it. Act like it using common sense, respect of others and common decency in situations which call for it.
With this said, why is it so difficult for some people to steer away from couples who're sitting or laying down doing whatever by themselves? We all know you have more privacy in your homes but there are also many nice romantic places where couples like to go to either dance, cuddle, have sex or do whatever it is they're doing. I just don't understand why these idiots although seeing whats going on still go out of their way to interfere where they shouldn't. I can see someone just tp'ing in and doesn't know whats going on but to walk out of your way just to walk upon a couple for the sake of being a nuisance is not acceptable. And this happens all the time.
Last night I was accompanied by someone and we sat at a corner away from everything and everyone but I got so tired of these half-wits going out of their way to walk right up to where we was for no reason other then to bother us. They had to veer all the way to the corner of the sim where we was and other then us being there, there was no reason for anyone else to go there. I asked this one person if he would excuse us I mean it didn't take a rocket scientist to see he shouldn't of been there but he refuse to move so I sent this guy up so high I believe he's still coming down as I write this. And I will continue to do this when I see they're obviously interfering for no other reason then to bother or harass. Maybe then they'll think twice about going where they don't belong. When I see a couple, I make sure I don't go anywhere near them no matter what it is they're doing but unfortunately everyone is not the same.

sooo you feel that in a "public" area you should be able to do what you wish w/o expecting an audience? shakes my head. my partner and i also love those romantice spots, but we dont do anything remotely hide worthy, nor do we expect anyone to not walk up to us. its a public area. maybe to avoid those awkward moments, might i suggest a hotel?

I sympathize with you Cole. That must be pretty annoying to have someone just walk up and hang around. You don't even have to be doing anything kinky or naughty to feel awkward.

Hello Cole, I understand and sympathise .... but ... the only privacy in SL is in the Instant Messaging. There is no other really, even locked doors and sky boxes are no guarantee. I really do sympathise but as Maggie points out, you are in a public place.
Just sometimes and this is a very weak argument, sometimes I move away from a crowd just for a little 'privacy' while I'm bombarded with IMs from friends and need to escape the visual hiatus. I and others could be thought of as peeping but are possibly not even looking at anything other than message windows. So much to do, so little time.

I think SL is a "public area" per se. A giant single brain.

From: Cole Riel I asked this one person if he would excuse us I mean it didn't take a rocket scientist to see he shouldn't of been there but he refuse to move so I sent this guy up so high I believe he's still coming down as I write this. And I will continue to do this when I see they're obviously interfering for no other reason then to bother or harass. Maybe then they'll think twice about going where they don't belong. When I see a couple, I make sure I don't go anywhere near them no matter what it is they're doing but unfortunately everyone is not the same. Was it your land? If not then you have no business issuing instructions to other people, nor is it your place to decide where people do or do not "belong". If, however, it was your own land, that's a different story. But, if not, then I would respectfully suggest that you are very much in the wrong here for engaging in acts of a private nature in a public place, and should consider unwanted attention as par for the course. Also, as an aside point - you don't know what system other users have and whether they're even able to see you. A lot of the time, all I can see in SL is grey blobs moving against a grey background. Adult antics belong in the bedroom, not in the parks and on the streets (except in some particularly specialised sims, where anyone who turns up knows what they're consenting to). Personally, I think the chap you orbitted would be well within his rights to submit an AR about you - I certainly would have done if someone orbitted me simply because they didn't like where I was standing. I would consider what you did to be griefing.

From: Cole Riel We all know what this game is about and the things that go on inside by consenting adults. Do we? The numerous threads on "What is SL" and variations on the theme would suggest otherwise. If you mean "goings-on" (or "country matters" as Shakespeare put it) then, no, that's not what SL is about for me or many others. As for privacy - what the others have said.

lol "we all know what this game is about." Uhm, unbridled expression of creativity through building and scripting, especially on a social scale? That is what SL is for me, not sex. Perhaps you have misjudged what SL is all about.
Also, orbiting people is a violation of CS. Do that too much and you will find yourself banned.

i just wanted to comment..
a lot of people seem to be saying "You shouldn't expect privacy in a public area".. but... in RL .. generally.. people grant other people "privacy" in public.
i've been in a Real Life beach.. and seen a couple on their towels close together.. i wouldn't =dream= of walking over to them, sitting down next to them, while they were obviously engaged in a private conversation and just start talking to them. Sure the beach was "Public" and thus i had every right to plant myself right next to the couple.. but i didn't!! O.o
in RL... we've all been to parks... seen a couple on a bench... and we've avoided walking right up to them and staring at them from a foot away. Even though the park was "public" and we had every right to stand 12 inches away from them and stare. We didn't.
in RL if you've been to a public nature trail... and you know there's a cozy area with this really great rock.. that has this really beautiful view overlooking a slight cliff.... and if you're walking with your best friend towards it (because you really want to show your friend this grand spot).. but... as you approach you see a couple sitting close together on a blanket... not kissing or doing anything "adult" but just clearly being close together. i think MOST decent people would back away... and decide to come back later.. and would allow the couple who was "there first" some privacy... even though it is a "public spot".
Errr...
yea.. okay. So SL and RL are different.. but... i don't get this idea that it's okay to NOT extend common courtesies or that it's okay NOT to respect other people's privacy just because you are in a "public place"...

Right, but if someone did do that, and you shot them, I think most people would agree you were in the wrong.

From: Conan Godwin Right, but if someone did do that, and you shot them, I think most people would agree you were in the wrong. yea.. mostly because in RL getting shot would really injure you. getting orbitted in SL doesn't cause a person any actual damage. It doesn't even cause your avatar damage. Since avatars in SL don't even really "take" damage. its sort of more on the level of someone screaming at you or yelling at you really loud.. i think. i mean.. if we were to compare it to RL reactions. though i think it's inappropriate to "scream" at someone who was inconsiderate in RL too.. and i think it's inconsiderate to "orbit" someone for being inconsiderate in SL. It makes me think of the old saying "Two wrongs don't make a right". But yea... orbitting someone wasn't really the "right/mature" way to handle the situation.

I respectfully suggest that if all you're here for is pixel sex, then you've really really missed the point of what SL is all about.

Public spaces mean just that. If you want to participate in any activity without interuption then do so in private.

In world is getting so bad, the freebie account with no payment online and no life to speak of are really causing dance clubs to look bad. I swear if i see another 12 year old little loser insulting acting like they are really 12 years. I throw up. There is no safe area anymore. The Badgirls Badlands Island use to have good people visting but now the casino and the rest of the freebie money greedy losers are showing up. Mainly Alts with 3 to 5 running at the same time. I really feel sorry for Jesse because he trying very hard to make things work, but LLABS is continues to have owners at their feet with very very little suppost. That new age checking system will NOT solve nothing. Just like the Class 5 servers did..( so what 2 extra giga per location ). ANd June is coming and schools are out and you think its bad NOW! WAIT!!!! you have not seen anything yet!

If the land owner sets the land to mature content only Adults who have verified will be able to enter it. So no 12 year olds running around. Or are you saying that children will be able to get around the verification process to access 'mature content' land?

SL is somewhere for everyone to be free until that freedom offends someone else. It also has nice forums where people gather to pontificate to others because they aren't scripters or builders and don't use it for the "worthy" purpose that they feel they do. Why people feel the need to do this I will never know.
No on to the topic at hand...
If the land was private then fair enough you can make the rules as you see fit. If not, then that person did nothing wrong rude perhaps, but not wrong. Flinging them through space was unwarranted. Perhaps they saw a groups of dots on the map and approached to see what was happening, the map won't tell him what people are doing only that they are there.

Mr Orbiter L'amour could easily find himself banned from the sim if he keeps that behaviour up.

They can`t set it that way, they never get traffic thats part of the reasoning behind some club owners now doing what it take to keep people in the dance clubs ( money ball, and other random monies). No matter how rude and age they are ( we really don`t know their true ages do we ). Sure kids will get around the age thing they always do...
