What bugs me about blogs is the way they all have sequences of characters, separated by spaces and punctuation marks, with the occasional picture or video. I hate that.

If you look at them really close, you can see they're made out of red, blue, and green dots. That really gets on my nerves.

You won this one - far as I'm concerned :D

My blog is advertising pure and simple. I do try to watch the punctuation , spelling etc, since it represents me and my products. Here- I chill. I try to spell properly but anyone who talks with me in world knows what a horrible typist I am. I do use "u" for you and wd and shd and such in chat and here in the forums. What absolutely drives me nuts is when it is so much netspeak that it takes longer to figure out what to type or what they typed than to get the meaning. Like gr8 - picture liens and lines and lines of stuff like that- those posts I completely pass over 'cause I just don't care what they have to say if it is going to take me that long to figure it out.

And as for vents- heck why not? Regardless of who vents or about what. If I don't want to read it- I don't, plain and simple. As for responding - well same thing- if I have something to add I will and if not I won't- and you dear reader are absolutely free to by-pass my little post too :)

Abbr txt n mst ne way....blah, I can't even fake it.

I can't stand it. I try at all times to make my posts, and most especially, my blog, easy to read. I have a helper on the blog and there are times I want to cry because she doesn't punctuate or spell well. But, bless her heart, she's one of the best people I know, and loves doing the work. Our individual posts are signed, so hopefully people know when it's me, and when it's not.

I think folks have misunderstood the type of chat that bugs me

it is not the shortened words, for I too will shorten some words such as ppl, that is on of my favorite words to shorten, that and prolly

and typos happen, typos are easy to spot

the words in my first post are the kind that annoy me and are not the kind of words used to shorten a word
for example how is kyoot easier and shorter than cute?
and luurve shorter and easier than love (although I sometimes use luv)
hawt is not shorter than hot
kewl is not shorter than cool
I sometimes use kewl but I have noticed I rarely use it now
and never when describing something (at least not that I was aware of)

Nope- I gotcha. I just kept going on with the twist the thread had taken. But yes- I see your point, although that doesn't bother me as much as the LEET speak. However, I do agree with you that in a blog meant to promote one's business a certain sense of decorum should be adhered to- unless of course your target audience is the sort that indulges in that sort of communication anyway.

What you're saying is that using an alternative spelling to save characters is ok, but using an alternative spelling to convey a particular feeling, connotation, or style isn't.

That's not an outrageous opinion, but I don't think there's a compelling argument for it. Personally, I've given up trying to draw a line between what's acceptable or unacceptable and simply ignore writing that exceeds my undefined, personal threshold. Rarely, if there's some relevancy, I'll point out the problems.

It's not all blogs. Just most.

For some humorous and thought-provoking blogging, with no LOLcatz and written by a friend of mine who actually knows how to turn a phrase or two, see this one:

Problem is, once they are deprogrammed, what is there to reprogram them with?

not a matter of what is acceptable for general public, just a matter of I felt like venting, and I did

it is a personal thing, nothing more

god help anyone here with an opinion or a vent

you put words into my post, I never said I feel it is acceptable to shorten words, it is just that they do not annoy me as much as the "cutsie" words, for I think that is what it is, people are trying to be cute about it... when it just ends up annoying (to me, can't speak for others)

sorry I voiced an opinion, flog me later

Now other people will start giving their opinions. I thought it strange your first reply to Osprey's post. I see nothing that should have provoked such as response. But now you have done the exact same thing to Kidd. What in the heck was wrong with Kidd's post??????????

You are the one attacking people, not vice versa.

attacking?
I do not see me attacking anywhere
I see me defending my right to voice an opinion, or to vent when something bugs me

I see some folks coming down on me because I vented and said specific types of chat annoys me
I see some folks putting words into my posts that were not there

and I see me trying and trying and trying again to explain myself, to no avail

if you think any of my posts are attacking someone, you don't know me
(come to think of you, you probably don't know me)
