If someone is using a blog to promote their work, then yes, they should probably make an effort to use proper punctuation, grammar, etc. But if it's done more for entertainment's sake, or in a casual setting like chat or the forums then, in my opinion, it's less important.

Which doesn't stop me from cringing when people use excessive 'chatspeak' on the forums...there's no hurry, you can take the time to use all three letters in the word 'you'! Really! It'll be OK.

I can haz nap nao plz?

I use a string of periods to denote text that I removed from a post, similar to "<snip>". For some reason, I use a dash between thoughts a lot. I don't really remember where I picked that habit up from and it is only something I do in forums and casual email.

:D

The biggest blog thing that drives me nuts is when they do not date them -- especially on the SL fashion related ones. I can get the date of the last update to the entry by hovering over the timestamp that is printed, but that does not really tell me when the entry was originally written.

I shorten words quite a lot in chat, like 'dint' instead of 'didn't', 'spose' instead of 'suppose', 'thru' instead of 'through' and 'U' for 'you' because they are logical and economical. Language changes, otherwise we wouldn't have words like 'wouldn't' but would still be saying 'would not'. But I tend not to use silly alternative spellings just cos they look kewl!

Wat a K3W7 th43ad! (Resists urge to continue on with malformed 1337 speak)

I think it is a GREAT thing for people to have personal blogs, it is self empowerment! IF you do not like to read them, then do not read them.

This can also be said for a majority of second life, some people are great at creating things, some lack the skills. The Idea behind it is a great one, get better with doing.

Did you come to the interweb and expect everything to be professional? if so, go down to FOX News network and ask them how they are able to stay floating with there lack of professionalism. Why? because I would LOVE to know, and would much appreciate you finding out for me!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The last paragraph dose not make sense, but I could not come up with a better way to ask people to get me the answer to the proposed question. if you answered yes your perception of reality is obviously skewed, and on that note probably seek the answer I need.

Oh, and chat is NOT writing!

I am not referring to personal blogs, I am referring to blogs that are aimed at fashion, or businesses within SL

I do not read very many personal blogs, it feels too much like reading someone's diary

what is up with this? words like kyoot, lurv, lurf, hawt, gorgy, luff, shooz, shuz, hurr, and more that I can not think of off the top of my head. They rank right up there with that Hooo gesture! (they all suck)

Read mine! I use words like 'intersubjectivity', 'discourse', and others I would break my tongue trying to actually pronounce. :) And I plan to exploit 'morphological analysis' in the future, too!

I would get annoyed at your list too, but somehow, I mostly escaped seeing blogs written in this manner, I wonder why.

Many, no, but a few. I must admit, I don't actually read them -- I look at pictures and then instinctively parse the text for a SLURL or don't, depending on whether I like the pictures. :) Otherwise the traffic would be deafening.

I don't tend to read blogs at all except in rare cases. I find most are boring monolgues of self inflated opinion and that is when they are used as intended instead of subverted into some kind of easy to make web site.
For useful information I prefer a different format of web site personally such as a forum or wiki where you actually have some reasonable categorisation.

Rha, Please take take this with love and kindness but you're brilliant, you're creative and make great clothes and have beautiful personality that comes out in most things you write
Personally I have looked at lot of blogs and I never come across any like you speak of most are very intelligent, very business like promoting certain things or places and there is the drama type that accuse someone of misdeeds and are angry and vent a whole lot.
The really nasty, angry, high drama and type that are constantly bickering and writing about how so and so is bad get to personally.
We all have things we dislike,
I know you don't mean to create thread bashing people's blogs but if I hadn't read almost everything you have ever wrote and know you're not known to bash other people I could easily
assume you would.
I like you and a lot of people find you likable, no need for insecurity ok?
You don't need to become the way you do occasionally when you get upset
and insecure if you know what I mean:)
You're doing it and I can see it, I hope no one else can because it distracts others from your beautiful personality:)
Yet I have to agree with Osprey about blogs are for the person write them, if you don't enjoy them you shouldn't visit them again
Osprey is very kind person, while we don't talk or hang out as much any more she has helped me in past in ways most wouldn't and sent me a really wonderful Christmas gift one year even though she didn't have too.
She isn't putting you down and think she is just reminding you that people don't write blogs for other people.
I am 43 and I like saying cool at least twenty times a day, and that doesn't mean anything other then I like saying cool when I am too tired say that is well made or beautiful.

Actually people do write blogs for other people, otherwise they would just write in a diary and never share it with the world

I am not bashing people's blogs, I am merely saying that it bugs me when I see people using certain words

I just do not understand why it is such an issue when I post about a pet peeve, or something that bugs me, but when others vent or post about things that bother them, it is a-ok.

and I am not gonna get all emotional, I am not gonna "get like I usually do"

I am just bewildered to see that some folks can vent and it is welcomed and shared, others do and they are told, that is bad, don't do that

*shrug*

doesn't change that I dislike when folks use that kind of text (be it blog, forums, or in world, emails, or whatever)

Rha, You're cool with me, do what you want, say what you want but others will have your opinions.
At least they respond to you, most of the time they don't even bother to do that for me.
I have had few very hostile and judgmental responses in my time too here that didn't feel very well.
My blogs personally tend to be mixature of art, what I am creating, what I am trying to create, problems I have with what I am creating, how I create such and such with a whole lot of personal ideas, opinions, insights, thoughts, feelings and experiences that I am comfortable sharing but that tends be for self.
For me, I know majority don't care or won't be reading what I am sharing, I just don't matter
that much in big picture, I do it for myself because its one of few places I share those things.
Sometimes I even share my own views here but most of time everyone too busy with their own views and opinions for it to really matter.
I have several people I have never met in world who write regularly on forums that I enjoy reading and sometimes I even visit their blogs and I have grown quite emotionally attached to their challenges, struggles and things they share and you're one of them Rha.

I get maybe 2 or 3 visits a day, some days none

oh well, still I post on it, because even if one visits, I will post, because that means at least one wants to know

LOLcat-itis

This is something that's been annoying the hell out of me recently. That method of speaking is NOT from LOLcats. It's making fun of people who actually type that way in all seriousness and it was around long before somebody decided to paste some text on a picture of a cat.

I call it 'laziness'. They aren't contractions to reduce two words into one and the time savings is miniscule unless you're typing with two fingers.

I can use full words, correct punctuation and capitalization and still keep up with 4 or 5 IMs. Sometimes even a chatroom as well. If I use any alternative spellings or partial words it's usually done to make fun of them.

What bugs me about blogs is the way they all have sequences of characters, separated by spaces and punctuation marks, with the occasional picture or video. I hate that.

If you look at them really close, you can see they're made out of red, blue, and green dots. That really gets on my nerves.

I can tell when you or my favorite people are having hard time too.
Strange how that works? I care about people I have seldom talked to and never in person.
Strange thing is sometimes it easy to think others don't value what we do or think, if you know what I mean?
I notice you don't have your blog attached to your profile here but I did go check out your photos and subscribed to your youtube site.
I wish I could figure out how to do that.

I had to close one of my older blogs to the public for personal reasons the Unrezzed Gray Reality & Brainlag one but I still have the Unrezzed Doodler open to public but it has adult content because sometimes I put adult artwork on there.
I sometimes due to severe brain lag or lag have hard time spelling words correctly it isn't that I don't want too, its that I literally not able too.
I think of people of certain age though who use use their phones for chat a whole lot get use to certain abbreviated speech because it is easier on their fingers that us over 40 don't get.

well, bully for you!

I tend to treat chat as a form of speaking and, as a slow typist, I often slip into using shortened forms of words simply to keep up with the conversation. I treat forums and blogs a bit differently as I have time to at least attempt to write full, grammatical sentences.

The use of words like HAWT and LULZ does get on my nerves a bit, but on the whole, I am prepared to pick my way through a complete train-wreck of a sentence if it says something interesting.

Hey, I've just noticed I have started to use my thumb on the shift key, which makes me a two-fingered-plus-thumb typist! Yay! Progress!
