My eyes hurt...

I have been reading some of the blogs out there, related to SL of course..

and for the love of god, PLEASE use plain English, this stupid new way of speaking, is driving me nuts

what is up with this? words like kyoot, lurv, lurf, hawt, gorgy, luff, shooz, shuz, hurr, and more that I can not think of off the top of my head. They rank right up there with that Hooo gesture! (they all suck)

I do not mind it once in awhile, but when a post is laden with these it drives me batty

oh and then you get the ones who want to swear after every 3rd word, why?
why do people feel the urge to cuss and swear on a blog or forum?
I just do not understand the need.

I see that in world too, hit a PG place and someone always feels the need to be vulgar, and curse and swear and use the F word after every other word.

ok rant over

what drives you batty? (besides the obvious, halloween and threads about things that drive people batty)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I don't read blogs for the most part, but that annoys me when I see it in the forum or inworld chat. It's OK as an occasional goof, but no one over the age of 15 should be saying "Hawt" or "Kewl" on a regular basis.

The thing that drives me battiest is the misuse of the Blog format for things which are NOT inherently a chronological journal. For example, Nicholaz's site. I wish it were easy to navigate to his posts on, for example, all the BE- builds, but no. The same was true of Eloh's blog when she began distributing her psd's ... you'd see a fabulously useful piece of information float by and never be able to find it again.

Bloggers can get around this with religious use of tags or other crossindexing, but that makes it as hard to maintain a blog as to write a book, and few are interested in that much drudgery.

I will admit I am a bit of a blog newbie as for using tags and such, hopefully my blog is not too messy

LOL cats drive me batty too

the cats are cute, but the damn stupid spelling people put on their is ... well... stupid

side question
(I tend to use the 3 periods a lot, these ... does anyone know what that is called?)

I have always wondered, I know there has to be a term, but.. what are they called?

Kind of like, the little things on shoelaces, they are called Aglets. I have no idea why that trivial piece of trivia stuck in my head.

hehe yes... those are called elipses and I overuse them to the point of insanity!
I do believe they're supposed to show a pause in thought and well...i pause in thought a lot.

The main thing that drives me buggy is snobbery. I do not appreciate the uppity airs that people put on occasionally.

ah that is what they are called, TY
yes I think it signifies a pause in thought (or at least that is what I put them there for, and when reading a post with them, I tend to pause longer than I would for a comma)

snobbery is annoying to I agree

why don't folks realize that we are all equal, no one is better than another.

I have been accused of being a snob, both RL and SL... until the person got to know me, then realized it was not snobbery, it was shyness that made me seem aloof

It's informally referred to as... "A William Shatner comma". :D

ROFL
hey... I like Captain Kirk! I grew up watching him, many fond memories of sitting with my mom, watching her favorite actor of the time (may she rest in peace)

and OMG just got a call from hubby, totally off topic but I got to say something and be damned if anyone is gonna get to me this time

I am sure some of you remember the thread awhile back when I posted about my friend's baby dolls (*they are called reborns)

well she was invited to be on the Today's Show, which she did, now the morning show wants her to come to their show, and maybe (but not confirmed at this time) even on Oprah

OMG and WOW!! I am so happy for her!!!

some people find those dolls creepy, but to actually see one in person and hold it, makes one realize the talent taken to create them

(she basically starts with a blank doll head form, and paints the features, roots the hair one at a time, creates the body, and fills it with some kind of stuff that makes it weigh and feel like a real baby) and she also sews the clothing for them herself (she is a master seamstress and it shows)

and as she mentioned on the Today Show... some of them sell for over 1000 US

ok, sorry for derailing but I just had to say something before I burst!!!

WOW and OMG AND WOW

(please I ask those of you who want to say something nasty about those dolls, to just not say anything, there is no reason to be rude, and hurtful, this is a happy time for my friend and for me)

People write their blogs to please themselves. I think if you don't enjoy reading a particular blog you are allowed to not read it again.

really?
you mean I am not forced to read them?

whew... thanks

(I was just hoping that some of the folks that write like that would reconsider and use better proper words)

Didn't you just start a thread criticising other people's blogs?

Kewl.

Personally.. I overuse them. But I was never terribly clear on the rules of comma placement, especially where quotation marks and parenthesis are concerned. So I tend to drop Ellipses (and double-dot, "lazy" ellipses) where I would normally pause for breath or effect, were I to be speaking.

I know it's a bad habit.. but honestly I don't really care that much. My writing is generally readable, and I usually go through and fix my more-blatant typos. (and for the most part, I know when to use to, too, and two, accept and except, etcetera.)

...and should never be confused with punctuation. :D
I can maybe see that one might want the reader to stop for a breath and a thought in case that can't be done with paragraph breaks but I cringe when I see ellipsis used to replace end-of-sentence punctuation before starting the next one.

I rarely read blogs. I may have missed the kewl kids' ones but for the most I find them to be stellar excuses for people to hear themselves talk (or see themselves write...)

:D

nope
I started a thread criticizing the way people write in their blogs (blogs was the main thing, but that "style" of writing is in a lot more places and it drives me buggy)

not just blogs and not entire blogs, sometimes the blog has multiple authors, and only one or two write that way, doesn't mean I will stop reading the entire blog

hey I am allowed to have a moment of "I can not stand such and such"

no different than the many "venting" threads out there

Oh no, shyness or quietness isn't even relative to the snobbery of which I speak. I know what you mean by being misjudged. In RL I tend to stand back and can be misjudged before people figure me out. I've even been told that I have catty eyes RL by someone, and that alone can cause me to be misjudged. That's messed up. I'm only watching, waiting for the crowd to part so I can find the perfect spot to dive in.

The snobbery I don't appreciate comes from those who require you to prove yourself to them numerous times before you're even considered worthy of their attention. Those that quickly close the gap to intentionally keep you out. Bastids!

ZOMG!! CRZY!! It's, like, people have made some new way to talk and stuff... And.. IDK... Everything is some sort of keystroke saver or a way to copy the way something is spoken instead of proper grammer. (o.o)

S'okay though... It's not like they're emoting for every line or something. (>_<;)

Well.... Uh.... Heh. (^_^)y

My English teacher suggested I do a find-replace on them with a double-dash (hyphen). It seemed to her that my "natural usage" of the "dots" was more reminiscent of the double-dash --

Perhaps she was right.

Oh, and you're more than welcome to not (not to?) read my Blog(s). I fully and freely admit that I mostly write for myself, and for the limited audience which may encounter my writings where I link them (for instance, the "personal" subtab on my "web" tab in my SL profile.) Mostly, I write there... so I don't post threads like this.. here.

ah that kind of snobbery, the in your face kind.

cat eyes? are they yellow with slits?

I have been told I have a very mysterious look at times, and that I look through people, which creeps them out. (I also tend to stare heh)

had a friend tell me once that my eyes glowed in the dark...

*shrug*

I would hope if someone thinks I am a snob of any kind, they would tell me, then get to know me and see how wrong that assumption was :)

I never said for people to not give their opinions. if anything I asked for other's opinions.

I have no idea why this irks you and why you felt the need to strike out at me

*shrug*

oh and apparently it does bother you, else you would not have said anything to begin with
