You know.. I have had a premium account for some time now. I am starting to wonder if its even worth it. You get a stipend of 300L a week (1200 mo./ly).. which is roughly 4 US dollars. Thats really the only benefit I see from it. I rent my land through someone else and pay my tier fee with in game currency; so I dont have any land ownership underneath my own account.
Is there any reason I should keep my account as premium and pay the 9.95 a month? Is there something I am missing?

In short- No.
That stipened is not even a benefit, as you say, its roughtly $4 USD. Spend the 9.95 to buy the lindens instead.

Hmm, while it does supposedly afford you benefits, such as being able to file tickets, and reach a difficult to find or activate live chat that sometimes takes weeks to even happen, in short, no. The biggest benefit is being able to own land, and if you don't own land, don't bother. There are no restrictions on basic accounts, such as how much you can have in your inventory, or where you can go. I'm actually thinking about downgrading myself.

As a Premium member I would tend to agree, use the money to buy Lindens instead..this is fine..then one day you decide to buy some land on the mainland..and then it's..presumably back to square one regarding your trading limits..

Well I currently rent my land.. and I dont plan on actually owning land anytime soon. (I prefer to rent so i can move whenever I want without having to sell my land). Thanks for the feedback everyone.. downgraded it goes.
I just dont see any real benefit from paying 10 bucks a month for ... nothing? Not going anywhere.. I'll still feed the money into the game, but I'd like to actually get something for it. *shrug*

If you don't own mainland, AND you are paying monthly, then no it's probably not worth it to you.
For mainland owners who pay annually, the free 512 tier, extra support, and $4-5 of stipend makes the $6 monthly premium fee a very good deal.

depends what your stipend is worth

I get 500 lindens a week and pay by the year. I use my 512 in included tier to park a boat. SL is rather cheap to play under these conditions.

pay the year in advance and drop your costs from 119.40 to 72.00. that will save ya about 12,500 Lindens.

It depends.. if you want to own land for real estate purposes, yes, otherwise, you can more or less do anything else (i.e. rent), without one.

If you want to own land, buy an island and save the premium account fee. You can rent out the land that you don't need, to recover the tier costs.

From: Lightwave Valkyrie your crazy to pay anything into SL -LW My SL bill is about the same as my cable bill, but I spend about twice as much time on SL as I do watching TV. And it costs less than my other entertainment expenses, like movies, theater, or restaurant dining. Not crazy. Just willing to pay a reasonable cost for entertainment. From: Aleister Montgomery If you want to own land, buy an island and save the premium account fee. You can rent out the land that you don't need, to recover the tier costs. LOL! I suppose that's fine if you're in SL to take on financial risk and deal with grumpy customers. I've got enough responsibilities in RL, I don't need my recreation to burden me with even more.

And the 512 I bought two months ago just sold for a nice profit, so not only is my premium account paying for itself with the stipend, but I made a few bucks.

i am premium because it allows me to buy and sell mainland. i have just as much fun buying and selling land as someone might have running a profitable shop/club.
i also like being premium because it buys me a vote, as insignificant as it may be. i like the feeling of being able to tier down or go basic out of protest, and know that can, at minimum, 'fine' LL $11usd.
i think its less about whether premium is worth it or not, and more about whether upper tier costs are worth it. tier is where you can really take an unexpected beating

Unless you want to buy land on the mainland then don't bother. You get more money by buying L and it is cheeper to rent land except at the high teir levels.
I was a annual premium but this month I didn't renew it. Even at 500 L a week it wasn't realy worth it. Expesicaly with how porely sl has run on my computer and the huge number of building bugs.
But then in a bit of a protest I haven't but a single dime into sl in a while.

But I too have not spent anything in SL in months. Stopped buying things the day they started disappearing from my inventory...

Since the annual membership is only $72, it seems like it would REALLY be worth it! Man, I wish LL would pay ME $26 a year to be a member!

Well for me it's worth it because I'm in the land business. I also have a store on some of my land that saves me rental money.

And well I hadn't managed to do anything with my store in a long time. Sure I could have covered it all if I had strached some this month to gater up the 72 bucks but ll has managed to sap my will to do that. I'm only here to be with my friends now and I don't even buy much stuff any more. Maybe splurge at grendels or bare rose once a month. Not goign to put another 72 bucks inot a program I can only use as irc with a slide show attached.

I don't mind paying my monthly fee ( I won't pay for a whole year at once). It gives me , at least in my mind a feeling that I can complain about the program when it ticks me off. The 300L stipend is just another pair of shoes a month.

Expensive shoes, Brenda. I've got a basic account, but I've been thinking about upgrading. Not because I want to own land or get a stipend, but becuase I'm using my avi's likeness on the web in an outside of SL venture. (my blog) I'm thinking that upgrading from basic will give me more of a feeling of ownership over that avi. Might just be a fantasy really, I mean LL ultimately owns everything here. Interesting thread, I'm not sure if I should go for it or not myself.
