From: Soji Slade Underlight. Now that would be neat, if woman walked around with the neon glow like street race cars. heh. or not. heh, I have no idea why I read what you said here and thought of a neon glowing street racer. I have shoes that have neon. Never thought you could compare them to a car though. They look pretty nice.

From: Marianne McCann I dun tink I'd ever tell anyone to turn their off, even if I do think they're generally unflattering. That would be jes rude.
Mari tanks Mari, i re read my post and realized that one should never post ones opinion w/o haing copious amounts of caffeine in the system. if i came across as well vain it wasn't my intention. ************************************************************************ i did however do a lil experiment with my face lights, and saw that well i did have a halo( after adjusting my settings this went away), and found that yeah if you are in the dark and within five meters of someone with facelights, or hairlights, they can be distracting, but not garishly so. but i did run across one today while celebratin St Paddys on the grid with my daughters, a nuclear lass EVERYTHING was lit up like 3mile island on this chile head to toe clothes and all.....ummm whats that about?

im using the mysti tools light emitter and its working perfectly for what i wanted. it takes off the hard edges from the avatar mesh without bleaching out the face and it doesnt light up the environment around the avatar at all. that was money well spent.

I, for one appreciate this thread. I had no idea facelights caused so much trouble. I did realize that others see me however their system is set to see me but I thought my facelight just made me look cute. The idea never crossed my mind to wear more than one nor did I know that it affected everyone around me. I'm the average user, clueless. Now I've learned that I'm prolly an obtrusive lag hag that looks like a illuminated polypig to everyone but myself, the local light sucker. I love you guys! I guess it's like makeup. If everyone can see it from afar, you got way too much on. (Retreats to skybox to work on face).....

I just want to thank Mari for the Mystitool Implant tip. I've had the mystitool for months, but I guess I never read all the notecards. I had been wearing a two prim face light at all times because of the whole ugly shadow thing (sunset is the only flattering time of day as far as I'm concerned), but last night I took it off and tried the mystitool implant at its default setting and to me, its just enough to chase those rough shadows away without completely illuminating the face. Thanks Mari

I got some free, low light, toned down, face lights from Cala - they seem to have just the right level to improve things without lighting up the entire room. Other ones I've found are very much OTT!

Thanks Mari Yer welcome! Mysti replaces soooo many extra things, an, I've found, often works better. For photos, I tend to go between an intensity of 0.5 to 1.0, depending on conditions. You can set that with the mysti with /1 light intensity X.X Mari

From: Princess Ivory Seriously, though. As I said in my previous post, I need to be able to take photos on the fly - don't have time to dig out lighting. And I do like the way my face looks with face lighting. But I don't want to have a huge glowing radius all around me.
So can anyone recommend a simple face light that will allow for flattering lighting on my face for photos, and even just when people look at me (yes, I'm vain!), that doesn't light up the night?
Thanks, I'd second Marianne on the Mystitool one. It's easy to adjust, switch on and off etc. I take lots of pics and although I'm usually not in them myself, for those occasions when I am I like it coz it helps me not look like a corps.

I remember when we didn't need facelights.
Then someone decided to make lighting more "realistic" without realizing just how much light is normally reflected off the ground and other flat surfaces in the real world.
If they could just reduce the dynamic range of light effect on avatar meshes during "daylight" hours that might help, or have it change with sun position, like a reference table. So under moonlight, you get the current overbaked shadows, under direct sunlight, a more subtle darkening of tone, with a sliding scale between.

If we had some special light sources to light our avatars without having to light the surrounding environment, it seems like it'd be popular. Hell, it seems like we should even be able to bake them in somehow.

Of course most of these people weren't around then.
