I have only freebies and about seven or eight listings. For what Xstreet is going to charge me, I'm not doing business with them. There are plenty of little malls crying for tennants. I think there may even be places that let you stick a vending machine of freebies for nothing, and yes I have land so could take my house down and hang the vendor up.

Anyone know any marketplaces besides the one slappy one there, where I can list my stuff?

Bye Bye XStreet

Was going to start listing items - not going to do that anymore - and will be withdrawing my deposits from there too.

I'm glad I only have a few items listed on SLX. I have thought about listing the rest of my stuff there, but now I guess I'll just let it ride.

the first thing is that this is about cost savings for LL. Those freebies are costing them money and now they've decided that their policy of attracting and retaining newbies via freebies is actually costing them we have this. If you're unhappy with this, the last thing you want to be doing is delisting the stuff straight away. it reduces your visibility and gives them instant cost savings. I suggest you update your listings with a note identifying this item will be removed when the policy comes in and reminding people it will be available. When you delist the item eventually *do not delete the box and the listing*. Deactivate it on the website only and change the item name to include the slurl of your business or a note why it's no longer available...................... ![]() Its a good tip thanks! _____________________

Those freebies are costing them money and now they've decided that their policy of attracting and retaining newbies via freebies is actually costing them we have this. I call BS. The cost of storing the data for these items is pretty, pretty, very, extremely cheap...especially if folks weren't looking at the items and buying them (i.e. taking up bandwidth). They just crunched the numbers and figured that they'd make more money by "tweaking" the charges(in other words, getting rid of freebies as they weren't making them money forcing folks to charge a "minimum" charge of L$50 which will increase LL's profits on minting and selling L$ on the market). It's purely a business decision (they want to increase the fees charged on slexchange)...and is related to how they can maximize profits, and has nothing to do with flimsy excuses or "explanations" like that. This is just one reason why removing competition from the SL economy (buying out GOM, SL Exchange, OnRez and who knows what actually happened with SecondServer) is bad and anticompetitive behavior by LL. |

/me finds that difficult to believe. You can get 1TB disks over at newegg for under US$100. I suspect the cost is minimal too. I actually think this is a combination of gouging (it really does fit into their survey suggestions well - no one escapes having to pay) and also cleaning up the site. It there's around 1.92 million items on the site and most of those items don't sell. for them the benefits are a smaller site to manage, a reduced need to fix search and income.. it's a win for them.. and all they have to do is modify the software that is used to buy a homepage feature.. a lot simpler than fixing their crappy search engine I would think. I suspect it's going to drive more people from sl at best and at worst a lot will just stop their economic transactions with LL. Managing decline by hastening it through alienating the user base you're a parasite of apparently is sound business practice amongst those in the lab. of course if they do manage to get the facebooky crowd in and they only see tat they won't know any better and LL will be rolling in it. I suspect it won't be the kind of world we'll want to actively engage with though. I'm seeing so many people who came inworld around the same time as me in the great wave of 2006 leaving. Their reasons end up being trivial but really the reason is just the straw. It saddens me so much that we're losing so much creative talent but LL are happy with mediocrity so they won't even miss those who have gone. _____________________

Edit: oops, didn't realize that LL became anti-competitive the past few years and it's forbidden to mention that there are alternatives to XStreetSL. Wow, just wow. ![]() |

True colors...
11-18-2009 15:58
They must be laughing with glee seeing people remove their stuff. They knew there would be an exodus, it is obviously what they want.
I guess Pink really was showing her true colors (and that of LL) when she alluded to favoring the top 10 merchants over the masses. Top 10 merchants don't use the forums -- BOOM, no more forums. Top 10 merchants bring in the real money -- BOOM, weed out the chaff. Wonder what wonderful things LL has in store for in-world sales? |

English is not my native language. Do I understand it correctly that (for NON-freebies) sellers have to pay a monthly commission for EACH listed item?

On top of your texture upload fees, your parcel listing fees, your classified listing fees, your listing enhancement fees, your advertising fees, your SLX commission fees, your tier fees, your Lindex fees, transfer to Paypal fees and your Premium membership fees you now have some more lovely, lovely....fees. Isn't it great? Personally, I can't get enough fees! |

Well... some of my selection sells better than others, so... if I can't have my entire line listed on Xstreet, then there is no use of having any of it listed.
I have just deactivated my entire product line. Now I don't have to worry about setting up new releases on Xstreet, will just release them in world until they apply changes there also (is the survey the writing on the wall for inworld sales?). _____________________

My freebies are
N O T a marketing tool. I see them as a community service. Take a look at them, take a look at what I hand out. Some unusual skin colors, a height meter, and a shape. I'm not the only freebie person that does this - that makes things they see as useful to new members to the SL community to get them started and get them involved. The things I sell are in a completely different market. I sell some buildings, and I sell some artwork made by someone I know outside of SL. How dare they decide the motives behind my freebies, and the freebies of others. What this really is is an attempt to shut down people who aren't in it for profit. I have no problem with people making money off of SL - but I happen to believe that you need to get people interested enough first - get them invested in the community before you try to sell them. And that means you need easy access to high quality cheap or free goods - starter items if you will. _____________________

This is a dumb question, but I have seventeen items at XstreetSL (none of them active any more) but still listed. How do I delist them completely. I don't want to get stuck with a 1700L per month bill some time this winter. Can someone help me please? I feel so dumb today.

You need a place for the SLX box. If you can put up a box you can put up a vendor. Certainly in the SLEX days, you could place a magic box on shared land managed by SLEX if you had no land of your own. Or has that been removed for XStreetSL? |

Iyoba,
You aren't dumb, it's a difficult thing to work out, and naturally searching for "deleting items" under Help is no...er...help at all. Go into "My Inventory" and look at each item in turn by pulling up "Edit Item" next to each listing. At the bottom of each listing are three buttons, Update Item, Activate/Deactivate Item and Delete Item. Press Delete. x P |

I've refused to shop on XStreet, or any other out of world service because in world shopping is part of the enjoyment of SL. I want reasons to be nworld, not ways to do stuff out of it. Now I have a cause...I can smugly tell myself I am boycotting XStreet...whooopee!

I have stuff listed on X-strip - at least for the next ten minutes or so.
Where was the notification to merchants? In the blog? Who the hell reads the blog. Not like I ever sold anything much on there but I won't be heading back and will never buy from there again. Well, mostly I used it to find neat stuff and then go in world to see, touch and smell and buy the real thing. The best seller I ever had was the freebie prim water example. I'll just make that available where i can in world. Rime |

Ever since the LL buyout, they changed it to a "free trial" to host boxes. Now they are increasing fees. Was the buyout a good thing? So there already _is_ a defacto fee for SLEX, and they're adding to it? Ouch. |

Careful man I got a 3 day suspension for mentioning a good merchant site... you might also ![]() Suspended for freedom of speech? Dang; I could understand if you started a thread advertising the site in a thread. But just mentioning it in a post? Mmmm, not sure about that one. That'd be kinda heavy-handed tactics to do, just for mentioning competition. |
