From: Amaranthim Talon And furniture peeps... a question- detail vs prim economy? For example, I love the stuff at Safira's - but OMG I have to put stuff away to put hers out! And I do- it is soo worth it Wow- such rich detail and such bloody HUGE pieces! -But gotta say- awesome service - ages ago I bought stuff I was sure would fit..It didn't - she came back and customized it with no additional charge- see now she gets a free plug from to you guys and to pretty much any one who ever mentions they are looking for that style of furniture. safira is an awesome designer She provided the light urns for our partnership ceremony *smiles* I think there is a happy medium between detail vs prim economy. When I was looking at potential prefabs for my shop, I went to one place that had an amazing two story shop with shutters that opened and closed. The detail was amazing and the entire building was only something like 19 prims!!! When I exclaimed how amazing that was, she said "It's all done with the math and the textures." I'm horrible at math and just learning to make better use of textures. There is one very large, well-known store that I swear the designer's philosophy is "Let's see how many prims we can possibly use for this" - even on items when it doesn't even make a difference. Then I've seen other similar items for at least half the prims. It's an art in and of itself.

From: Surreal Babii Yep I do Daycare from home, Im a fully Qualified Childcare Worker, been in the industry for like 15 years, but decided working from home was better for my kids and finances, lol. Working with kids is hard work and role modeling correct behaviour is a must, im so sickly sweet sometimes i want to puke, lol. But I love the challenges and the love from all the children i look after, i have another favourite saying sums it all up.
A childs mind is not a fire to be lit; but a spark to be ignited.
i stand by this and practise it every day. Thats why i come into sl, adult stimulation, a world away from what i have in rl. that is so cool and to have your own as well, doubly lucky I never had kids, but now have 2 stepsons, which we have on the weekends, and it always tugs my heart strings when they want to sit on my lap, or yell for their hugs before going to sleep, and if I am not around where they can readily see me they are asking where I am it is the love of my family, my friends, my stepsons, my inlaws, those who truely know me, that makes me realize it doesn't matter what folks in SL or in here think of me, because those who count know who I really am, they know me. I love the saying about a child's mind, that is nice remindes me of a couple saying I heard once... the unborn child could become the most important person in your life and a stranger is a friend you have yet to meet

Well I will share a giggle at my expense- I turned my screen upside down and it took me liek 20 minutes to realize how to unturn it! LOL- Toda I had a total Zen sort of SL - i went up about 800 meters, pulled out the neat little work bench from the jewelry class I semi attended this weekend and played with my my shoe- I mixed colors on m own and wrote down the formula, placed the thing and carefully arranged it on my foot. Then i packed it in to a much bigger shoe as the box! I put them out at Talon Faire- Then I made a neat gargoyle sculpty with that emboss thing- I will go inworld to try it out now. If it works I will post a pic for y'all. Nice night /me smiles. Ohmmmmmm

Nobody's going anywhere.
/me puts on his best stern face (and probably fails miserably).
Now, back to business, yes? I have a lot to catch up on and a few responses to make when I get home from work today.
Before I run out of the door, though, on the subject of prim economy vs detail, I suggest you check out Fire & Water in Lion Gate sim. Right-click and select edit to see the prims Lily Lioncourt uses. She's *very* prim-economical, and as has been stated earlier, it's all in the texturing. Her stuff looks *amazing* and it's all because she has a great eye for texturing.

I'm in a perfectly lovely mood no bad mood here. I've been working my tail off for a HUGE release I"m planning for Saturday. I've got some new shops to stock, and so I thought I'd get a few projects finished, and set up the shops on friday, which means I have to put the outfits together in SL, box them, photo them, make the promos for them, and do it all in the 5 hours I have online in SL tomorrow! gah..I'd hire an assistant if I was actually making any money to pay them..... *sigh* Thus my absence from this thread. I did check out Cherie's vendors for her, got some cool poses, then went and checked out Jojogirl Bailey's shops too! great place there, her mall! so, back to the grindstone!

well i think i might just pack up shop after tonights fun. Someone posted on a group of theirs that i stole their item and am selling it as my own. I never did that... i would never ever do that. But ihave had a bunch of people yelling at me calling me a thief... telling me i use copy bot. What is the bloody point. I work had on my creations. I do not steal. Yes i use others pieces to get ideas... to see what i can improve or do different. The two items are similar but at the same time very different *sighs* And it was actually a freebie I have out. Well i took it don and replaced it with a sign stating the freebie had been removed cos a creator thought they had the intellectual rights to all items anythign like his (yes i know bad idea... ill take in down in a bit when i calm down)

I wouldn't let it get me down E. Tell them to file a DMCA and see where it gets them. People are going to have similar ideas sometimes and that's the way it is. If I were you, I would AR these people for harrassment. If I google wedding gown and find one I like, and make my own version of it...and someone else does the same thing, they might be similar. It might even make them (or me for that matter) say "hey....". But there will be differences. Heck I made one gown based on a painting that had previously been done by a notable designer. Before I released it, I messaged her on her blog and asked her about it and she said "I didn't do the painting, so the idea wasn't mine, go for it!" I did, and looking at the two side by side you might see some similarity, but vast differences as well. Did I copy her? No. Did she and I both work from the same design? Yes. Copybots (to the best of my knowledge) make EXACT copies. I believe that your work is your own. And to be honest, an unfounded complaint like that might make me think that maybe someone is seeing you as competition. So don't let em win PS I wouldnt take the item down, I would bring it totally! Post a pic of thiers next to a pic of mine and some text about it.

The above post reminds me of something I wanted to ask about.
Sometimes when I go to a shop, I see green text in chat saying 'copybot protection blah blah something something enabled'. Is there something out there that can keep copybots from copying? If so, does it work? Is it something in the item itself, or just in the store? And when I see that text, does it mean that someone just tried to copybot something? Everytime I see it I find myself looking around suspiciously lol

Why the Hell would you let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do when you know damn well it is your work? No way- I am with Ralektra- AR them document everything including their blog page make sure you have your notes and designs and what ever handy should you need it and tell them they can DMCA til the cows come home.

My partner watched me build it. Was one of the few things she has ever watched me build so I have someone who saw me create it, from scratch. *shrugs* this is probably the one thing that someone culd do to upset me. I am a very honourable person. This kind of stuff cuts me to the core becuase I know how hard i work and I know i am a good person. To not only have one person accuse me, but for them to have sent a notice out to their group and encourage their customers to IM me about it. Well it has gotten me really upset. I didnt even think to AR the people IMing me. Although I think more logically ARing the creator who started this might be more logical, becuase he encouraged them all to do this. I dont know. I dont really want this crap. I just like building and to be hoenst right now this isnt fun, not one little bit.

yes AR the creator if he messages you but don't let people get away with harrasing you based on someone's word. We are not sheep. If someone said to me 'so and so stole my design' I would for darn sure go look at it myself first. Even then I wouldn't message the person lol, but would encourage the creator to dmca. I saw something posted somewhere (I forget where) about a DMCA that Linden declined, showed pics of both items and they had like 2 things in common (in common! not exact!) and one of those things was the part of the body they are worn on lol. And I found it interesting that one of the items was of greater quality, and of course creator of the 'not as nice' one was the one who filed the DMCA. And another point is since I have seen the same type item in RL stores, neither one of them 'owned' the idea. (edit: personally what I would do before ARing the creator would be to talk to him/her about it and try to come to a meeting of the minds. The blind followers would be reported immediately)

I wouldn't let them get me down, but if it's only a bit of fun for you, and it's spoiling the fun, ok. You may have received multiple IMs calling you something, but they won't keep it up - it'll pass very quickly. Shutting up shop isn't going to change what's already happened but if you do shut up shop, that part of your SL fun will be over. Personally, I wouldn't allow them to cause that.

i IMed th creator as soon as i found out about it.. it was the first thing i did. However he seems to be deriving pleasure from the IMS i am being sent and didnt seem to care that the items were neither stolen nor being sold (moot point but he had both incorrect)
Thank you all for listening... truely. I appreactiate it.
I dont knwo what i will do right now. I think i may just leave the store open but not focus on it for a while. I have a lot going on (my partner is preparig for an evacuation of new orleans as we speak).... so maybe a change in focus would be good for a bit

Please don't let it get to you Eclectic, there are some right pricks *excuse my language* out there just tell them how it is and if push comes to shove like everyone else said report them, we all know you would not do, it just sound like this person wants to get of on others works *sigh*. I'm not sure how this works but why don't you go check his work see if it's simular then file a DMCA against him because you know you created it so if it's the same he copied so report it

No i had and have seen his work before. Hell ibelonged t his group until this started. Like all of us do i saw something anf thought I like but that i can do it my way and i can do it better. I can put my own spin on something. Anyway i havent found the item just from him. I took several items i had seen in world as well as hunting items on google to come up with my final designs. The textures on my items are my own as are all the prims i created.
His creation was part of the research for my idea, but it was not the main idea nor was it copied directly.
I dont know... just right now i feel really down about this (and the other crap going on really isnt helping). il think it over more in the morning

My prayers go with your partner in New Orleans that everything will go well. That city does *not* need more problems with storms. (Sidenote: My cat is a "Katrina Cat" - rescued during Katrina and brought to FL for adoption. She is so very special to me.) This thread has been wonderful and I will refer to it over and over as well as the Biz Group site as I go forward with however I choose to operate my business. I realized I was trying to do everything at once and have become exhausted RL as well as neglecting my Partner a bit so I think I will take a bit of time to relax and have some fun.
