I saw one to the right of the relatively new land on the east. OneCleveland TG. Wouldn't let me in.

its um a "transdimensional hole" and we are all doomed !
or possibly they are just merging the grids in which case we might be doomed due to grid issues like lag or not? (easier to take care of can still keep us away from each other though..) |

!!!! Really?! Perhaps LL is planning on joining the grids more quickly than everyone on the TG had assumed? Or perhaps it's just a bug =[

Linden 2 - ....... Linden 1 - Let's go to the bar! Linden 2 - Agree! And that's how you connect two worlds.... ![]() _____________________

I was interviewed this moring in world by a reporter. She siad there was some kind of protest on the Teen Grid, calling for allowing teens access to the main grid stating the Teen grid was "boring" and asking opinions if the grids should be merged. I am not liking the way this scenario is playing out.

It looks to be one lonely sim out in the middle of nowhere.

I've noticed that some failures happen to both the main grid and the TG.
This along with other things make me think that the TG and the main grid have always been mapped together in the main grid mapping system. The only grid that is truly separate is the beta grid and this is evident in that there is a delay between getting items on the main grid and the items showing up in your inventory on the beta grid. The sim in question could be the sim that is used for the party (that I hear) TG accounts have before they move to the mainland. Edit: Or it could be one of the new educational sims that will allow specific mainland accounts interact with TG accounts. |

well they could merge them, but anyone with a teen account would have to be unable to access anything other than PG regions I suppose.

couldn't they just make the teen viewer so it only pulls up pg sims on the adult grid?
We need somewhere to hide. I dont need teenagers in my play time.... |

Another thing that occurs to me is that with the current growth of Second Life, it just might not be possible or practical to sustain two separate grids indefinately. Even if they're really only partitioned continents sharing the main grid as Grumble suggested, I would think integrating them would make economic sense for Linden Lab in the long run.
At any rate, I guess I really can't think of any consequence of such a merger that couldn't be sorted out - as long as they are restricted from entering Mature rated regions, and are unable to to search "mature" content until they're 18. These won't be trivial issues to sort out, but it could be done, with probably a net positive for the broader community. I just don't forsee a mass influx of griefing, and I think there will be ways for adults who engage in the steamier aspects of adult play to continue to do so. Yeah. The more I think about it, the more I start to believe it would be a smart move. I see this happening in the future. What exactly is the overhead for running two separate grids? I'd think they'd want to go in the other direction. Dividing the main grid into smaller pieces would address some of the scalability issues, as well as allowing grids to be more closely targetted. There could be a commercial conferencing grid, for business users, separate PG and Mature/R/X rated grids, and so on. There might be some demand for the ability to move an av between grids, but that's just a SMOP (simple matter of programming, for the non-software engineers in the audience). This could even be taken one step further: spin off a separate company to operate the X rated stuff. That could solve the public relations issues, which are a significant part of that whole problem. |

couldn't they just make the teen viewer so it only pulls up pg sims on the adult grid? Something went wrong with my account last year causing all mature sims to become inaccessible and upon opening the map, I noticed they were concealed by red diagonal lines. I clicked Live Help and Harry Linden fixed it for me in seconds, but failed to tell me what had caused it. I'd called customer services about a billing issue approx. 30 minutes before it happened so maybe the person I spoke to enabled a particular database flag by mistake. |

What exactly is the overhead for running two separate grids? The Main Grid and the teen grid IIRC are one grid with software systems seperating them. The Beta Grid is a seperate grid though HTH ![]() _____________________

Think about it -Unverified accounts -Increased priority on Corporate presense -Cleaning up advertizing bit by bit. The "web 2.0" wont be keeping kids out. SO why should Second Life. Content providers will be responsible for their own content like in Web 1.0 Mature land will kinda be like the .xxx that some want to pass for the internet to replace .com for adult sites. |
