I would like to suggest that Linden Lab do not use me (member of the SecondLife community) as a reason for enforcing moral decisions. I am a firm believer of total and unrestricted free speech, (and as we have to abid to some laws) , in the boundaries of the laws. And i would like the other residents that believe they haven't been consulted for being used as a decision tool to add their name to this post so now we might be able to read - when linden labs justify a decision by the community - the following (long i hope) line: "The diversity of things to see and do within Second Life is almost unimaginable, but our community (excepted Kyrah Abattoir, <insert name> , <insert name> , ... , <insert name> has made it clear to us that certain types of content and activity are simply not acceptable in any form."

Hell yes. I'm in. (on Kyrah's list)
I want to see a list of the "community" that made it clear to LL about all the fucked up changes.
I believe it's the community that LL wants to market not the one that exist.

Yeah I dont want to be included either - I think the "community" is like 5 people who are active on the beta grid or something.

Very good point, Kyrah. I'd like to be excluded too.
Well, I'm pretty much used to that. Whenever someone mentions the opinion of the community, the population, my age group or whatever, it does in no way reflect my opinions. I also never show up in surveys or statistics, it seems.

no one's ever asked me for MY moral or ethical input on community standards either.

Well, there are the hand-picked Chosen Ones who get invited on all-expense paid trips to San Francisco to give their input at the "Second Life Views." I guess they are supposed to represent "the community." coco

As I do in real life, I just go elsewhere if I see something offensive. I am obviously not part of "the community."

Since it apparently involves an all-expenses paid trip to Clifornia, I'd love to be asked for my opinion of what is broadly offensive too.

I disagree with your post, by the simple fact that there is *no* community as in a united voice or even majority voice on any particular issue.
When Linden Lab ask all residents for their opinion on an issue, and can truly say that this is what "the community" says, then great. Until then, they shouldn't make out that our opinion is actually factored into their decision making.
There are far too many subjects to list where LL have announced a decision, only to be totally ripped apart by pretty much everyone who bothers to post on the forum/blog, and they've ignored every single good point made proving that it's the wrong decision to make, and go ahead only to fall flat on their face and be reminded how we told them so.

Which laws? US laws? Dutch laws? German laws? Tiboektoe laws? Morwen.

From: bilbo99 Emu er .. I think you agreed .. mebbe not .. I'm confused I specifically disagree with "as a reason for enforcing moral decisions." Linden Lab can, and will, enforce any decisions and standards they choose to, at any time, for any or no reason, and there isn't a thing we can do about it. Unfortunately, if some members of "the community" were allowed to set what is acceptable to everyone, then the FBI would be all over this place like a rat up a drainpipe and close it down. I don't think Linden Lab enforce 'morality' as much as they need to, to be honest. There's no excuse and no need for a lot of what goes on in here when it comes to 'adult content' - and, of course, the tired old "free speech and expression" argument does not apply in a private environment such as Second Life. Thankyou Broccoli I just get incensed though every time I see quotes or headlines of a community which I like to consider myself a member, giving weight to an issue I have no recollection of being asked about. OK, perhaps a little OTT that I demand to be included in the survey personally but it would be nice to hear percentages sometimes. I forget what the precise issue was a few years back when there was a headline "UK says no to xxxx" but I was livid at the time and couldn't find anyone who knew of how this sweeping inditement had been formed. Yes, Lindens toy .. Lindens rules ... but when they say community, I like to think I'm in it.

The community in this context, is defined as those who go to the effort of filing abuse reports for things that offend them. By definition, the community excludes anyone who doesn't have an axe to grind.
There is no way to file an "I don't mind, actually" report.
I don't file ARs relating to virtual pretend things people do between themselves, so I am not part of the community.

A problem with making a point of excluding oneself from something that "does not exist" is that the action implies that the thing does exist.
