Should LL do something about this before official action?

I am not longer just annoyed and wanting to know why Linden Labs is showing preference. I am also concerned of the possible repercussions of official action if the authorities do act on this. They COULD call for a COMPLETE audit. With all the transactions that SL does, it may never re-open. From: Jenshae Werefox I see it as gambling, you put L$ in, get random numbers; a game of chance with a bet and win or lose it. How come it is permitted? Edit: From: Anya Ristow I don't know about that. A whole class of activity has been banned except that there's one glaring exception. Kinda begs for an explanation. Without word it looks like a wink-wink knod-knod arrangement, and some people find that offensive. ... Edit 2: /327/87/353657/1.html

If you think someone is violating the law then turn them in to the proper law enforcement authorities and let the law go frog march some criminals to jail. Let the threat of convict justice work it's magic.

Uh.. Who is "they". How will "they" shut down SL so it never "re-opens". can we say extreme paranoia?

They wouldn't need to shut down SL anyway - all that would need to happen is to stop any means of converting L$ to real-world currencies for the duration of the audit.

Which might not mean closing SL, but sure as heck would hurt it a lot. I mean, how many businesses (myself included) cash out our L$ to help pay tier? Not to mention, it'd screw with the Lindex, because for non-tier, we'd just find another exchange to sell off at.

From: Briana Dawson mind your own business and stop being a crusader. Briana why so rude? Are these Zynga machines paing out Lindens or giving tokens for prizes that can be used to redeeem products?

I really don't give a Frack about this particular issue, but I've always maintained that SL's demise will come not from a competitor but from LL's own incompetence, laziness and stupidity. It will be very entertaining to see it when it does finally happen. Pull up a chair, I've got plenty of popcorn.

What's the big deal with gambling anyway? I wouldn't trust some homespun script with my Lindens, but if people want to throw their money away that should be up to them. This falls into the MYOB category, and not just this thread.

From: Brann Georgia What's the big deal with gambling anyway? The legal and economic environment in the US means that if LL is providing an internet gambling service they can be in big trouble. Many people believe that Zyngo is likely to be interpreted that way if the appropriate agencies cared to investigate, and so shouldn't be treated any differently from any other gambling in SL.

From: Raudf Fox See, this is a case of people trying to protect other people from themselves. Pffft. So maybe we should outlaw alcohol, smoking, giving coca cola to children, MacDonalds, high heels, silicone injections, Fox news and reality television, too.

You mean, they aren't trying to do that even as we type? *sighs* It's silly. You can't protect people from themselves, no matter how many laws you pass.
