Ok, a couple of comments.
First, all opinions posted here belong to the people making the posts. No one has spoken for the Cartel. If someone says they have or are, please let me know with a linked post.
Second. What happens on the Forums, stays on the Forums. That is our number one rule. I know people will have disagreements, hell people may even hate each other. But in world, in group it stays civil. If two people can't be adults and at least ignore each other in the group/hangout, then I will hammer both of the parties involved, PERIOD.

From: Trout Recreant Hey guys - I have a quick question and I don't think it needs its own thread. There's an application out that basically allows you to have a private sim on your home PC, instead of LL's. It's not connected to the grid at all, and you don't buy the sim, pay tier, etc. I thought it might be fun to play with. I'm totally blanking on the name of the application. Can someone tell me what it's called and where I find it? What does it cost?
Thanks! OpenSim, and it's free. http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Main_Page

On behalf of the Cartel, I hate Chris, but in deference to the rules, he and I get along swimmingly in-world.

Thanks! It's OpenLife http://www.openlifegrid.com/It is free- you can either join just like in SL, but it's buggy as hell- or you can download a standalone version.

Bingo! I swear, either I'm getting older or all those head injuries are catching up on me. I knew it started with an "O", but I just couldn't make my brain drag up the info. Thanks, Lindal! edit...wait a sec...openlife? OK, now I have to figure out which one I was looking for. I wanted the one that was basically SL but on my own box. When I first heard of it, it sounded very lonely, but I've been thinking of a few things I want to try out and it seems like a good way to experiment a little.

@Ann, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I hope everything turns out as well as one can hope, with as less pain as possible. My thoughts are with you. @Threadies and Cartelers, I’ve been going through a real difficult time and I’ve been putting SL on the back-burner lately. I just have to concentrate on my RL at the moment so will be gone from the forums as well. I’m just letting you all know so no one thinks I am leaving because of what happened in this thread recently (we all know Mac won), or that I just left without saying good-bye. I wish I had had more time to get to know you more inworld. I hope that when I do return, this thread will still be going on strong. I also hope the forum will have undergone its promised ‘facelift’. Thank you for all the laughs this past (almost) year, and wish me luck.

Ok, everytime I think everything is good, I get hit by another curve ball. Looks like I'm gonna be absent a little longer The phone company have cut me off, and I'm sick of them messing me around like this....switching suppliers, but I dunno how long it will take, so although I might get on the forums occasionally through friends internet etc, I have no SL until it is sorted. the next few days will likely be spent sat in a corner cursing and suffering from stages of extended SL withdrawal

Too much backreading for me, but upon seeing Chris' post and a few on the last page or so, have to express my sadness at the whole sordid incident, including my own shameful behavior. When presented with the idea that Cx was guilty of malfeasance I immediately in my mind jumped to a conclusion, then upon pondering the situation sought more proof. In all truthfulness that proof was not conclusively given, and I am staunch believer of innocent until proven guilty.
Where I failed, was once I had decided this person did no wrong, I did nothing to defend him. He has always been a friend to me since his arrival, and I think I betrayed that friendship by not actively defending him. I tend to use this forum as a personal stage at times, and while I do look to just amuse and entertain those that come here, for that reason I do command some sort of attention. I should have used that privilege to better advantage. I am disappointed, embarassed and ashamed by my lack of action in support of a friend.
I've always been a face value type person in SL as most now. I try to tke everyone as the relate to me. We all have our other sides, our RL personnas and baggage, but I try not to concern myself with all that. We are all capable of anything, but unless I have first hand knowledge of a grievance I will not put credence into it.
I harbor no animosity or doubts toward anyone involved in this, those who may have voiced opinions to me in private included. I maintain my high regard for all of you.
I have sent CX a personal apology, which I hope he accepts. I don't blame him for being stung, nor for feeling let down. I truly believe he did no wrong in this matter.

Seems to be my day for being ALMOST correct. 'OpenSim' is the LL project that spawned OpenLife (among, I believe, others).

http://www.openlifegrid.com/http://opensimulator.org/wiki/DownloadsI'm guessing OpenLife is the one you want. Edit: Or maybe not. The one that's been discussed on SLU is OpenSim.
