/me tests the Advanced Search of XStreet and verifies that one can indeed search only for items costing millions. You have to put a string in the text search box, but it works.

Sweet! What a great way of listing freebies! Brann, this deserves it's own "HOW TO LIST FREEBIES ON XSTREET" thread, do eet! On Sunday, before any mods notice!

Pity me :(

Not to concern you overmuch -- we are exposed to the same bugs, after all -- I woke up yesterday with an awful head cold. Constant scratchy cough, icky sinuses and, worst of all, this morning I woke up and one of my ears was plugged.

I'm not TOO much of a wimp, generally. I can handle pain reasonably well, and a cough is just a cough, after all. But if I have one phobia, it is with regard to my hearing and sight. Even a partial impairment of my hearing, especially, sends me into an absolutely irrational panic. It's like a form of claustrophobia, really. So this morning, I was in an awful state, ready to head off to emergency just because one of my ears was plugged up.

Fortunately, it seems to have mostly cleared. But I'm waiting with a sense of incipient panic for a recurrence.

Just me being a wimp, really. But even a brief little episode of hearing issues fills me with respect for Treasure and others who manage so well and so bravely under far more serious disabilities than a temporary loss of function in one ear. I take my own health and fitness so much for granted; maybe the occasional panic is not a bad thing after all.

Heya Ghosty & Elora, Long time no see, How ya both doing? :)

Hihi!

More or less, ok enough.

Ghosty on vacation from SL and intends to be for a long while. He's just burnt out for various reasons. Me, job keeping me too busy to log in for the most part plus I don't get home until nearly 7:30pm then by the time we eat dinner, etc. there just isn't the time. Seems like I only come in mostly to p/u IM's. If Ghosty is playing WoW, I'll spend more time - but for the most part I have other things RL related keeping me busy.

Like looking for a house. I'm consumed. Today, we're off to an open house nearby. Cute Dutch colonial on a quiet street, nice backyard, wood floors throughout. Smallish kitchen which doesn't thrill me but the rest of the house seems to be in really good condition from the photos, and it has a fireplace which we'd really like. Maybe if I'm lucky the kitchen is in the back and the house can be bumped out eventually to make it larger. We'll see - I'm just speculating at the moment. Saw a couple the other day (I had taken a vacation day to catch up on some personal things); one sucked the other we really liked but it needs some work so not so sure (although it had my dream kitchen so it's a contender).

Other than that - all's good in our world. We miss you all, and hopefully at some point both of us will be back again. In the meantime, we're at Second Citizen, as some know and happy to be there (although Ghosty doesn't post as much as I do).

Hugs to everyone!

I stayed up till after midnight, then work called at 4:30 am cuz of a database problem, my connection from home was screwed up so I had to call a co-worker to get it fixed, got back to bed a bit after 5:30, and then back up at 10:00. Since my connections to work are still screwy, I'll have to actually go to the office tonight for the 6:00-10:00 pm maintenance that is scheduled and that I had hoped to be able to do from home.

Oh well, guess I'll enjoy what inworld time I can get in between chores this afternoon.

I'll be teaching in a private English school for kids in a little tiny city of 3 million people. I leave on 21 Feb and am still having fits of terror over it.

Yah, but any moment now LL will swoop down and ban all links on Xstreet listing pages in another attempt to squeese money out of freebies.

Kudos to Radio Signals and OMGWTF Barbecue for raising over L$3.5M for Haiti. I believe today is the last day for their fundraiser.

That is wonderful, that your RL is keeping you happy and busy, and that you are looking at houses.

I remember Elora's arrival on the forums cause it was around the same time I got here... wow, the things that can happen in just a coupla years!

I'll be teaching in a private English school for kids in a little tiny city of 3 million people. I leave on 21 Feb and am still having fits of terror over it.

I have a friend who's teaching over there. Some industrial city in the middle of no place anyone would actually visit, but he did manage to do some travelling.

He wrote many emails back to us, describing his first few years over there. I love hearing about cultural difference that they don't show you in the brochures. Like pig brains on a platter, yelling "you have no face" in Chinese at some kid on a bus that won't give up his seat, to making do with a hotplate to warm his room at night.

The first year was an absolute marvel of discovery for him and he just immersed himself. Fortunately, they are very polite to westerners. Eventually he got promoted, was begged to stay on when other westerners couldn't make it, started to like the food, started to learn Chinese, got himself a girlfriend and doesn't appear to want to come home any time soon.

I think the trick is NOT to try to make it a home away from home but to adapt and learn the local culture as quickly as possible. What an adventure!

Good luck with the house hunting. I hope you find the perfect place :)

I hate finding new place to move. I always end up either loving everywhere, or hating everywhere. Can't seem to be objective. I'm glad the final decision is never down to me lol. No idea what its gonna be like when I have to do it for myself for real.

True, the merchants are trickling away ... Well, I'll start a thread, we'll see if it catches on.
