On a stupid & sad note:

My soon-to-be Ex Brother In Law somehow decided that he should join the Army at the age of 39.

The idiot doesnt realize whats in store for him- as in "Deployed to Afghanistan".

I'm hoping some of these Muslim Extremist Beheading Prisoners videos might change his mind. Let him see what he's in for.

Its even upsetting to me, seeing these guys get their heads hacked off with a large knife.

Did you know, as someone slices into your neck with a knife that you continue to move (and attempt to yell) even when they've hit the neck bone?? And the face you make when they start stays..... at least for a little while.

Um . . . thanks for sharing that, Tod . . .

:eek:

Sorry to hear about your soon to be Ex Brother in Law. I too hope that he thinks better of it.

*shudders*

Not everyone who serves in our military dies from getting beheaded by the enemy... although it remains a possibility. I understand how it must upset you. Hope you can come to peace with his decision and wish him the best.

Does the army even take people at that age? (For combat duty)

For non prior service

* Army - 42 (must ship to basic training prior to 42nd birthday)
* Air Force - 27
* Navy - 34
* Marines - 28
* Coast Guard - Age 27. Note: up to age 32 for those selected to attend A-school directly upon enlistment (this is mostly for prior service).

Reserve Non-Prior Service

* Army Reserves - 42 (must ship to basic training prior to 42nd birthday)
* Army National Guard - 35 (changed from 42 in 2009)
* Air Force Reserve - 34
* Air National Guard - 40 (Changed from 34 in Aug 2009)
* Naval Reserves - 39
* Marine Corps Reserve - 29
* Coast Guard Reserves - Age 39

Age Waivers

Age waivers for non-prior service enlistments are very rare. The few I've seen approved involved those who started the enlistment process within the required age limits, but were unable to complete the process and ship to basic training before their birthday. In these cases, only a couple of months of age was waived.

I say KUDOS to him. Anyone that joins up right now has true balls and patriotism. My step son joined up about a year ago. His entire unit was sent to Iraq a couple of months ago, but he was sent to Germany because he is considered "too green" yet. My own son was in the Reserves for 6 years - got out this past April. He was never sent anywhere, but then his unit was more important here than there. However, he is still in the Ready Reserve status and is actually thinking of going back for full active deployment. Yes, it scares the total hell out of me, but it also makes me very proud.

If they have certain skills, like pilot, then they might. However, a friend spent over a year in Iraq as a computer specialist. Even though he never went out on patrol or anything, he said that the base was bombed daily and he could always hear non-stop bombs and shells firing.

I don't think I posted this one here, though I could be wrong, since it is almost a year old:

I don't think I posted this one - one of the texture glitches I saw recently:

On the left is the face of a model in a store, showing the textures from the wall she is facing - which is shown on the right side of this pic.

LOL! Goodnight Kaimi!

/me waves back to Claire!

In the interest of moving the thread toward the 100,000 mark I will post a pic. (This is also in the interest of my vanity.)

I had been saving this one for Cinco de Mayo but what the heck...

I love to collect international costumes in SL. This is my Ballet Folklorico find!

Lula, magnificent dress!!!! And you look lovely in it!

Love that picture Lula! Very colourful :)

Here's my vanity pic. It's pretty old, but I don't think I've posted it on here before. I'm still trying to remember which top that is, and which skin I'm wearing....I will find them eventually.

You just keep getting better and better Claire!

Oops. Thanks for the complete and definitive answer, Chris. Very interesting.

Possibly Tod fears his soon to be ex-brother-in-law is jumping into this without thinking it through due to desperate feelings about divorce.

My thanks and honor to your sons, Lil, and all who serve. I can only imagine how you feel.

Hey Brenda! The Charger fans in my house are getting pretty pumped up. They're warming up for the big game today by eating junk food and watching some other game. The cats and I are relatively unaffected.

But you can talk trash to me if you want.

For non prior service

* Army - 42 (must ship to basic training prior to 42nd birthday)

Hmmm... I'll turn 42 next month and this makes me feel MUCH better about it. :D

Ava, the pics of your explorations were really fun, have you considered blogging your adventures?

I find it's not only fun to share my travels, but also provides a handy place to store the pictures and SLURL, thereby freeing up inventory and HD space.
