How many terms is it that qualifies them Chris. Is it just two. I remember way back when they interviewed someone about this in NY. She said "what do you want us to do sell apples on the street?" Actually no, I don't. I want them to have to live like the rest of us. Same benefits as us, they shouldn't be privileged like many of them think they should be.

I think she had spent several years as a councilwoman. If she had been tried and convicted, instead of offered this sweetheart deal, she would have lost the pension due to the criminal conviction.

Exactly. This was the original idea of the Founding Fathers, the "citizen soldier" and the "citizen statesman". People who would leave their occupation for a time, serve, and then return to it. We've wandered, sadly, very far from that vision.

I had been sort of rolling over in my mind the *knowability* of SL - and I realize that it isn't a word, but yeah it is funny when a reporter pops in for a few hours and thinks they get it. Nobody knows everything that's out there.

In a month or so, I'll pass my 4th rez day, and I see and do new things in SL on a daily basis. Sure, you can get the gist of things easy enough (though so many of these reporters seem to go into SL with a lot of preconceived and wrong-headed notions), but knowing it all is simply impossible. That's totally a good thing, too.

In one of Plato's dialogs, he has Socrates say that people ought to hold public office *unwillingly*, because if people are TRYING to get into public office, it means that something is wrong (i.e., they are drawing a personal benefit).

It's a simplistic point of view, but there is something to it.

(It always makes me think of jury duty.)

BRRRRR!!!!!!

It's cold out today. The forecast says freezing by 7pm and a low of 22 tonight.
I realize this is not all that cold for a lot of you but by Houston standards this is like the "bad place" freezing over.
