Before I run off for the day I thought I'd overshare something ...

I just took a shower and put on A&F reindeer boxer briefs. No jingle balls for me!

/me laughs in an overcaffeinated manner and runs away.

Virtual Ability has been featured on her shows a couple times; Gentle Heron and I met her at SLCC; I have a really hard time there (which I explained to her when I met her in RL, but she blew it off) because the shows are voice only, no transcription. So I started blowing her shows off too, even when Virtual Ability is featured. None of the deaf community can hang there, is just too tumultous you have to listen to the voice, through the music channel. Is kind of confusing. If you're deaf is near impossible. I sent a notecard detailing my concerns to her producer, no response. I also attended one that featured one of the SL Raceways, where a deaf friend of mine races. Even though he and I are both deaf, he is more deaf than I am, and so he asked me, since I can hear some, to interpret for him, to transcribe into text. Ended up being too much for me and we both left. As we left, one of the staff called me a bitch (guess because I disrupted the flow by standing up to leave). Ah well. No great loss, and I've been called worse. there are other things to do in SL. I know her show is very popular and I hope that others enjoy it.

Phew! I'm all rested up now and really don't want to be in the office today. Luckily only about 8 hours away from starting my holiday vacation. :D 12 days off I can hardly wait. Yay!

I don't know how much I'll be online for the next few days. So, I just want to wish you all a Happy Holidays and I hope everyone enjoys the season in whatever form or fashion you observe it.

It really is an amazing collection of folks that frequent this thread. I hope the new year finds you all healthy, happy, laughing and smiling. :)

PS: Just had to add, I love all the recent pics and the chia noob is just frigging hilarious. :D

Popping in just to say, the Connolly Expedition made it to Florida without having to resort to cannibalism.

Hope y'all have a Holly Jolly one.

Those are some great family pics, Mari, and holy moly, those giant hamster balls are cooooool.

I just heard about Paisley Bebee for the first time yesterday. I've got to try to tune into one of the shows!

Ya. It's fun to go to the tapings too, though way laggy. The hamster balls are great stuff. Today's giveaway is the playable bagpipes. I'll have to see how we'll they work with blurtophones!

Hi!
Glad to hear that you and Boomer made it, Brenda. Hugs and kisses from me to you both and everyone you are visiting. Have a wonderful time.

I'm currently transforming this room - my "office" into a guest room for one of my kids and her spouse. Her old room and the other previous guest room are now the private rooms of our friend/lodger. This room was my mom's room and it never really got straightened out since she died a few years ago and I moved my computer in.

I'm almost as thrilled with the improvements as I am with the prospect of seeing the kids this evening.

*smiles* I know you can't wait to see them. :) And it's kinda neat that they'll be staying in your mom's room. Lots of memories flowing through there. :)

Yeah, Mo. I always liked it when I used to visit my parents that they still lived in the same place. Then after my dad died it worked out great for us to move in with my mom. I miss her but in some way it is kind of like she is still here. This will be the first time my daughter has slept in a room in this house that doesn't smell like her old and large collection of gym shoes. Lol.

Treasure if you guys ever need volunteer translators for events with voice, I'd be happy to lend a hand. I'm a fast and acurit typast :p

Oh and btw folks, Avatar was really great. I'm not usually a big Hollywood blockbuster film guy but I took my niece and nephew and it was great fun watching it in 3D. After the film we went to the pet store and bought a blue betta fish and named him Jake Sully, the main character.

At this past Sunday's builders Show And Tell, someone had an Avatar avatar and now I want one. I saw an ad for them in one of the shopping blogs but I can't remember where to get them now. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thank you, that is SO nice of you! I'll put your name down for future possibility. You wouldn't need to be word for word even just an accurate summary of what the speaker said. The problem is, with a show like Paisley Bebe's, we'd need permission and to work with the show's producers, can't just haul in a transcriber and say 'sit here and type into local chat'. So a show like that is a little bigger deal, but I am grateful for the offer.

If folks were unwilling to accommodate or don't get back to you in cases like this, I guess the other option is to set up a separate group conference with the translator and those that would prefer a real time text translation could join in on that IM conference channel. It's really unfortunate that they chose not to work with Virtual Ability in order to make their events more accessible.

And yes, please put me down as a volunteer if you guys ever need a hand with stuff like this or anything else I could help with.

Thanks Nika!

I just checked the links though and they all come up empty. Same thing happened when I googled around on SL blogs - all those links for Avatar inspired avatars on Xstreet all seem to have been removed from Xstreet listings. Guess they are serious about DMCA after all lol.

Maybe. Or maybe LL is just pissed because Cameron didn't want to do an SL gig as part of the movie launch, and so they don't want anyone giving him free advertising!

j/k ... kinda!

:D
