I'm looking at used books on amazon.com, and a lot of the old stuff I'm looking for is available for ONE PENNY (plus shipping) from some suppliers. These vendors have good ratings, but the price is so ridiculous I have trouble trusting it.

Has anyone bought books online for prices like these?

I have and haven't ha a problem..although I've never gone as low as that. I wouldn't buy textbooks though if you are taking any classes..a lot of times they are not up to date for the course.

Thanks, I did it. Two books for two cents plus $8 shipping - I guess they are making something there? Unless they are melting down the pennies and selling the copper.

The books are worth more than $4 a piece and are a little hard to find.

I'd never trade in memories of my mom and the homemade big-enough-to-grow-into clothes she sewed for me until I was a teenager. Even though I'm not quite in the needs "What Not to Wear" category I hate shopping and trying on stuff and I have a lot of trouble finding things I like and can afford. Having someone like your mom must be great, Seven.

Good Morning Thread-strangers!

I'm back from that RL thing called "vacation". And did you know that the Poconos are almost as pretty as some places in SL?...
Welcome back Jer! We all missed you. It's good to know that you were in a pretty place. I hope you had a lot of fun and relaxation. Can I have some of your juice, please?

Yes, lots of times. The books I got were not new but were less shabby than many of the ones around my house. I've never had a problem. Oh I see you've already ordered them - I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me.

She is pretty amazing in that way. She does put a lot of time and attention into it though. She watches the inventory in a number of stores and has an incredible memory for prices and for the timing of sales.

She combines stuff too: the sale, the coupon, the discount for using the store card... the clerk will often say, "You can't use these together," but Mom always prevails.

I was most amazed the time she came home with two KILLER formal dresses from Lord & Taylor that she'd got for $20 each. I didn't even know that store *had* sales. They fit her as if they'd been made for her.

And the time she haggled with a clerk in Macy's and bought Six a pair of Uggs for $80. (She normally wouldn't spend that much, but it was for Christmas.) In that case, she had already worked the price down and THEN had a $20 off at the cash register for purchases of at least $100. The cashier (who had already suffered at her hands) smirked and said, "You can't use that discount because this comes to $99.99." So Mom, completely unperturbed said, "Why don't you charge me $100 for it then, so I can get the discount?"

The clerk balked, searched for a reason to say no, and then caved.

I love your mom! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would pay for her help (and probably still save money). Although I bet she's plenty successful at whatever she does.

When my spouse and I were planning our wedding he told me where there was a place that sold "seconds" of Gunne Sax and Jessica McClintock dresses. That was one time I enjoyed trying on clothes and I ended up with a long white Victorian style dress with lace and satin and the whole 9 yards for less that $20. He's really good at researching products and bargains.

I've bought a ton of penny books through used books sellers on Amazon.com. I haven't had a problem yet. May or may not have one with next, but so far no problems.
