I've been joined to Heinleiners for ages in case somebody said something.

Today somebody did, and pointed to this thread.

Yo. :-)

Yay! Welcome Maggie :D

I liked that too! Not sure about the rugged part . . .

I am not horribly rugged either but the rest fits me nicely.

Don't worry, you are upfront with me. We better leave a spot for Lula...something tells me she will want to be in on this.

You guys know about the Heinleiners in John Varley's "Steel Beach"?

They were building a space ship too.

Of course now I have like 50 RL friend requests on Facebook to deal with -- most of whom are too important to me to turn down. What's a recluse to do?
I feel your pain. I joined Facebook a few days ago and I can hardly keep up with it already. Some of these people I don't even know, they are a friend of a friend of a friend who...

However, I have been assured that if you click "Ignore" on the friend request, it just quietly disappears, it doesn't send the person a notification. Phew!

Not sure what right-wing nut-case said this originally 'cause i did NOT hear it with my own ears- but - I am very sure it cannot possibly be true and thus just kind of makes any of us not behind the current gang's agenda all look like nut-cases too.

It is alleged that one of the things in this bill is a euthanasia clause or pill old people can choose to take rather than sit around and wait to die 'cause the health care will be so picky and only young healthy individual will be eligible.

I just saw this on TV - Obama had a sort of town-hall meeting, and an old woman called in. She said that someone who had read the entire health-care proposal said that there is a clause in there that says that government employees would come to visit every single person on Medicare to ask them how they wanted to die.

Obama said that the only thing that was anything like that was a proposal to simplify making a living will.

I don't intend to accept those, but didn't know what would happen if I clicked "Ignore" either. Now that I know, I will ignore ppl to my little heart's content.

They will also ask them what colors they want and what music they want played as they check out.
Unfortunately, most of our legislators will not have read the bill either, just as they did with the "Stimuli (tm) packages.

Actually, it won't be done that way , of course. Instead of giving elderly people Ni Ni pills, the pills they need to stay alive will be held back, in the name of "Rationing". (tm)

OK- briefly speaking of politics --- now i realize the health reform thing isnt overwhelmingly popular even among their own crew (/me hopes enuf dont like it that it doesnt further socialism in America) Anyhoo - today i heard thru a third party something soooo deranged you know it's gotta be tinfoil territory.

Not sure what right-wing nut-case said this originally 'cause i did NOT hear it with my own ears- but - I am very sure it cannot possibly be true and thus just kind of makes any of us not behind the current gang's agenda all look like nut-cases too.

I really hate it when i hear such stupidity- makes anyone with half a brain think those not behind the current admin are all idiots- Worse part is when it gets bandied about as truth which is how i heard it- yeah right- this country may be slipping into dementia but i doubt we have opted to slay the oldsters- heck that would take out more than half of Washington!
Like most bills, there is a Senate version and a House version, that eventually will meld together if they actually make it through. Part of what the current uproar is over is this partial part of the House version of the bill :

From: someone
Advance Care Planning Consultation
(hhh)(1) Subject to paragraphs (3) and (4), the term ‘advance care planning consultation’ means a consultation between the individual and a practitioner described in paragraph (2) regarding advance care planning, if, subject to paragraph (3), the individual involved has not had such a consultation within the last 5 years. Such consultation shall include the following:
.....
(E) An explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title.

The full text of this version of the bill is here: http://docs.house.gov/edlabor/AAHCA-BillText-071409.pdf . That is a couple of week's old and has probably already has some revisions to it.
