My two $L on the emotion / smile / scary Burger King issue:

If you have a HUD that allows mixing the different expressions simultaneously you can get marginally more natural ones. Mix the big Smile with Surprise and it looks a lot more like laughter. It softens the squinting eyes a little too.

There used to be a gadget called Second Expressions that would do this. that was years ago. Don't know if it's still around.

I think that was cool photo idea.

I am glad all is well for you. I hardly ever check SLU these days so I am catching up here. :)

As for the end of days.. I am sad to read that. I will ride Hellboy here till the lights go out and if they catch up with him I gotta a lot more where he came from. :D
