Btw not such a proud day to be a Californian... the state supreme court just upheld prop 8. :(

Yeah... :(

I'm glad they at least are letting stand the unions which have already taken place....

I was kinda bored an needed a project to focus on for a while. So I made this. Maybe folks'll get someting out of it, I dunno.

The full size can be gotten at http://www.flickr.com/photos/marianne-mccann/3567710058/ - that way you'll actually be able to read it!

Really cool, Mari...the "sepia" coloring looks great, too...making it look like an archival photograph. :)

Lil's pictures of the Canarys look like Second Life. A brothel, a Christian center, a Eurodisco, and a tattoo shop! :p

Here are some pics of the trip to Mt Rainier yesterday. I didn't get any of the actual mountain because it was obscured by clouds (bummer).

The Tattoosh peaks:

A glacial valley:

The snow - look how much of it there still is!

Here's a pic of Rainier from a distance:

wow....there's a reason they say mountains are majestic. Awesome pics, Oryx...thank you. :-)

I had to share this pic:

I've smoothed out the jagged lines around my avatar, but I haven't touched up the belt. It's a prim belt that follow my body so close. It's one of the best and most realistic belts I've seen in SL!

And then it's my bedtime :).

Style card:
Shirt: Calypso Giano"Love is a gamble"
Jeans. Previous groupgift from Luna's Boutique
Boots: Kitties Lair (These boots has both jeanscuffs and a plain version)
Belt: COCO, part of kneelength shorts set
Hair+hat: Cri-Cri, previous groupgift that too...
Gloves: Dark Eros from Ookami Ningen
Earrings and rings in platinum from RYCA
Skin: LAQ Tess glow

Excellent shot, Marianne. :) That's a nifty pose, too. :)

And yes, that belt is really sharp. Love your tank top! :)

The trouble with voting on things like this is that it makes the majority feel as if they are right to suppress anyone who is different from them.

Not necessarily. They are merely stating their beliefs, just as those on the other side are. Once the votes are tallied and there is no evidence of foul play, the decision should hold. That's how the system should work. Those that diagree can work to overturn it in the next election.

OK...a cool thing happened.

Last December, I was reading a blog (http://www.strangepixels.net/2008/12/15/snow-day/), and I asked the blogger about the pea jacket he was wearing in the photo. Dan knew who made it, but thought the guy wasn't in business any longer. /me sighed...I thought it would have been a cool Christmas prezzie for Jerboa.

So yesterday, out of the blue, I got an IM from the designer, who noticed that I'd commented on the jacket...and he sent a copy to me!!!! Wasn't that nice???

AND!!! lol...I wrote back, thanking him very much for the wonderful gift. I asked if I could pay him for a copy to be sent to J (since the one the designer sent me was no transfer) and he wrote back this morning, telling me he was sending me a transferable copy to give to J!! :)

/me does a happy dance :)

Nice belt loop detail on that. I'm glad to see some designers picking up on that, although it would work best if it was an option to wear or not (ie: you might want to wear that belt with black jeans and blue belt loops wouldn't work with those).

Prop 8 did pass. The voters (after a barrage of Mormon funded ads) decided to outlaw equal rights for gays.
<snip>
I couldn't agree more. And civil unions should have nothing to do with sex. For example, if two spinster sisters are sharing their old age in the house left to them by their parents the one who lives the longest should not have to lose her home because she can't afford the inheritance tax on her sister's half. Any two (or maybe more) people should be able to be life partners who can act as next of kin to one another and so on.

I had never thought about the second part- very good point Kaimi. As for the first part- I have not followed this so Ihave no clue but- if some sect within the Mormons might possibly want the legalization of polygamy were thinking things through, this would be a good first step in that direction. It would erode the clear definitions a bit -

Well the way the system works now the judiciary branch of government is there to stop the voters from willy nilly making the constitution irrelevant. I tend to think one of the biggest advantages to this is that it makes it harder for politicians to trade on fear and ignorance by scapegoating some minority group of the population.

The designer's name is Malte Antfarm, and the name of his store is, literally "[insert cool name]"

Giving the jacket to J this evening, so we'll see how it looks! :)

So then what protects the majority from every special interest group using the courts from imposing there own laws on the average person?

I should have been clearer. The main Mormon church was active in this election defending strict one man one woman unions as the only things that should be called marriages.
It seems they ran an effective campaign.

I hope that if the special interest group is people with African ancestry who want to vote *nothing* will protect the the the opposing desires of a majority of white bigots, no matter how average they may be.

If the special interest group is tobacco companies who want to make obscene profits from mass misery then I hope someone will realize that actually harming others for money isn't one of the basic rights upon which our country was founded.
