Pep, I second that. I hope everyone is ok as well. BTW - The alligator is on his way to become a nice pair of boots or a purse. He didn't survive his injuries. "CX" So, I hear (if you're a meat-eater) that alligator meat is a healthy choice, perhaps more so than chicken. Yes? |

Work is making me teh cranky. We instituted a new accounting software system last fall and just went through our first fiscal year end. Mistakes were made, cross year payments were posted, and our balance sheet wound up out of balance. We've been trying to convince our external support team to either fix it or tell us how to for almost two weeks and just keep getting the "We're short-handed, we'll get to it soon" response. Well, our auditors are coming on the 11th and we really need to get the problem resolved, so I suggested a course of action which I believe would fix the problem. Rather than giving a yay or nay, the support project leader instead tells me, "I think it would be better if I fixed it via a back door process. " OK, fine, whatever, just fookin' DO IT already!  I hate numbers... of course I brilliantly chose to work in an accounting firm... _____________________

Ann, I am so glad I got out of the finace group some 8 years ago. I never looked back. I feel your pain. Where can we send flowers to the surviving gator family? A donation in his name to his favorite charity? (I love gator tail!) All donations should be sent to me. The family indicated they would prefer $Lindens in lieu of flowers.   So, I hear (if you're a meat-eater) that alligator meat is a healthy choice, perhaps more so than chicken. Yes? Very lean and tasty meat. Especially the young ones. May I comment that I find it fascinating that an earthquake in LA gets about two column inches in the thread while an alligator on walkabout gets five . . . Pep (Headline news here in England: Weather remaining the same) Earthquakes in LA are pretty much a fact of life and only gets major coverage if it is a large one or does a lot of damage. That just happens to be how things get reported. _____________________

I understand your frustration. I have to deal with gov't red tape a lot and it's the same thing - "we made some changes for more efficiency! But they screwed everything up and it will take twices as long to get things done. Oh, and the one guy on the planet Earth who could fix this mess has been reassigned to scrubbing toilets in the men's room. Glad we could be of service!" Actually, the courts run pretty well. The really frustrating thing is working on real property development projects and dealing with the County planners/permitting people/etc. I want to scream at them. I don't. But I want to. Hang in there Ann. _____________________

I was in San Jose in the 80's a few days after they had the one that mesed up the double decker bridge - the diluted aftershocks terrified me! We had a tiny one here a couple of months ago and it solved a considerable number of marital problems overnight. Pep (I hope everyone is OK in LA - I have friends there myself) My sister lived in Oakland during that one. We had a few terrifying hours trying to locate her. Glad to hear Joseph is OK. _____________________

I am imagining this is the stylized romantic Cuba of yesteryear before politics f'ed it up. My heart rate is finally back to normal.... I'm on the second floor and the back wall of my office is all glass... I really thought it was going to break. I think this one was very close to where I work. An alligator tied up traffic on the eastbound I-10 Bonnet Carrie Spillway Bridge for a couple of hours this morning. "It was struck by a car, so he was still in the middle of the roadway," said Trooper Joe Piglia... Well, while it can be argued that the European influx in the the "New World" was decidedly bad for all indigenous peoples (there are no native Cuban people like there are Native American here- at all anymore- it being an island and a closed environment, the plagues the Spanish brought along with calculated genocide put an end to the Ciboney and Taino peoples. There were uprising that turned to massacres and their extermination was guaranteed). No, I meant more the Cuba prior to Fidel - even Batista, being a petty dictator and owned by the corrupt gangland types of the US (think Key Largo as creative reference) was preferable to what there is now. I am reminded of an old Jimmy Buffet song prior to the Berlin Wall falling- he suggested we rain dollar bills over Communist Russia, followed shortly by LL Bean catalogues - he figured the people would let sort things out _____________________

Haven't looked at it and dont know what it's about- but for the record I am more than a tad worried about Marcel- and i dont give a flying crap where he chose to post his sale cause frankly the guy is more important and it looks like he is leaving and i woudl be more concerned with where one of our friends is going then where he chose to post the damn post!
