From: Samantha Goldflake Do NOT say "hi", "Hello" or whatever in chat, without saying the person name. Your 2 avatars may be staring one at the other, but he/she may have the camera rotated and just look elsewhere and/or in a crowded chat may not notice who's talking him/her. Always say the person name. .
Seen this a few times someone opens with "nice pants" and 3 people reply "thanks" Even from people on the other side of walls you didn't see

From: Lhorentso Nurmi Another one...
Wear clothes. Yes, this is a good thing. I was rather shocked my first day when I was sitting and some guy decided he must stand infront of me with his bits in my face. I was not impressed. I am new to SL myself and yes I do get bored at times. My friend asked me to join but I can't expect her to be available at all times, so I must fend for myself often. I didn't come to SL for sex and that seems to be a huge thing here, don't IM ladies and ask what they are wearing :/ I am shy by nature, so it is an effort to start conversations, and I think there are some really good suggestions here that I will try. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions

I found out early on that SL can be a lonely and strange place if you don't make friends. Now I'm not big on socializing myself, but i do like people (If they don't behave rudely) So I began doing searches for events and decided to attend those events that were of interest to me. This is a good way to see what SL has to offer (besides sex) and meet people of similar interests as myself. As in RL, if you don't like porno , don't go to porno shops and no one will ever force you to do so here in SL. You can pick and choose where and with whom you wish to spend your time and maybe find some things to do that are fun for YOU.
It takes time and a bit of an adventurous spirit. I have had many hearty laughs along the way because SL is so unique that even the technical problems can be interesting. (Like logging in and finding your head on backwards!)
So don't be discouraged, with over 4.6 million residents here i'm sure you'll find something and someone that you click with.
Good Luck!

Girls have more fun
04-12-2007 16:00
This may sound dumb but I have tried playing both female and male AV and to tell you the truth, being a male is extemely lonely, no one makes the effort to talk to you and a lot of girls (like 95%!!!!) ignore you or even worse, call you a homosexual and tell you to go shopping (actually happened). If you are really really loney, and playing a male AV,and able to handle it, I suggest trying a female until you get the hang of it. That's just my suggestion

Somehow I think the Original Poster (posted 1-24-07) Either learned to have fun or quit by now.
